Hello, question. I am interested in buying the Roland DJ 202. Would I need to obtain the Sersto DJ Pro license to synchronize the controller to an external synthesizer?
Honestly i've had nothing but problems with Serato and this controller. I cant get it to do anything except the premade beat when I press Start/Stop. just the same thing over and over no matter what buttons I press. When I try to load a song on to a deck the song appears but there is no waveform. If I press play it shows time passing but no music at all. I've updated the firmware. I did a factory reset. I made sure It's the most current version of Serato 2.3.1. Just don't know what else to do. And what's up with the writing in Serato? It's all squiggly and blurry.
Helpful video, thanks! The actual manuals and documentation which came with this thing are terrible... good kit, bad instructions. Thanks for the video!
thanks great vid , Just got a DJ202 , im finding allot of midi jitter , put a techno beat in kick and 16th note hats every step , I hear the timing is quite bad , even just the 202 on its own , with Virtual dj 8.5 , do you get the same issue? Maybe its my Mac Hack . ??
Great..! How do you get external hardware to connect with the Roland 202? I've got a Maschine Jam and a Mpk mini and am wondering if they're connect. Thanks for any advice..
I believe those two pieces of gear are just midi controllers, so you'd need to be running a DAW (e.g. Ableton, Logic, etc.) in addition to Serato to really be able to use them with the DJ 202. If you have an audio interface with MIDI input (for example, a scarlett 2i4), you can take the midi out from the DJ 202 into the input on your audio interface, and run your DAW as a slave to the tempo over midi. This is actually something I've been playing around with lately to sync my Arturia beatstep pro with the DJ 202.
I also I'm thinking of the same thing. First off I preffered upgrading to sb3 as I did enjoy using sb1 but I like the Roland 202 idea of production while deejaying so I'm wondering how do I connect my mpk mini to the dj setup to use to kick drum and record while playing a set
The Roland DJ-202 does not have any MIDI inputs, only an audio line input which gets added to the main mix output. If you want to use a strictly midi keyboard, your best bet is to hook it up to your computer with USB and run a DAW like Ableton or Logic to choose which sounds you play.
Hey everyone, wondering if anyone can help me. just testing the 202's today and noticed that my 3.5mm headphones doesn't fit into the jack at all and falls out. The headphones I use and the jack work on DJ SB3's and I wondered what to do/ what jack size I need to get so they can work on the Roland 202's. Cheers everyone
DJ-202 has a quarter inch headphone jack. You'll need one of these: www.amazon.com/Aurum-Cables-3-Pack-6-35mm-Adapter/dp/B00XAVOW00/ref=sxin_4_ac_d_rm?keywords=quarter+inch+to+3.5mm&pd_rd_i=B00XAVOW00&pd_rd_r=15460d5a-c1ee-4063-b1b1-2b374e31dc02&pd_rd_w=B9rB2&pd_rd_wg=0Q7Jy&pf_rd_p=0bc35c17-1e0d-4808-b361-20ab11b00973&pf_rd_r=YWTWW5M36V5C8YNKBF48&qid=1559869780&s=gateway
Hi Evan, thank you for this, it's really helpful. Can you please do some more DJ-202 tutorials, such as using samples with Serato? I've recently got this bit of kit as a complete beginner - I've figured out the basics of mixing and beat matching but I'd really like to know more about what I can do with it. I've also got a Roland V Drum kit and wondered if I could use that with it too. Thanks a lot :D amy
@@bohecio9 I'm using a MIDI cable to send tempo from the DJ-202 to the keyboard, and a regular old 1/4" TRS audio cable to send audio back from the keyboard into the mic input on the DJ-202
you wouldn't be able to trigger your v-drum kit with the 202 as the midi port on the DJ-202 only sends out MTC (start, stop and sync info). however, you could use the midi port to sequence other hardware with sequencers built-in.
The sequencer isn't on a particular side, it's basically its own deck. You can control the volume of the sequencer with the "sampler level" knob in the center.
Evan is any chance to plug for example korg electribe 2 and korg volca together with roland 202 ? I need set up for sets and producing , how to conect it together ? Thank you
I think you'll need to do the following: 1) connect midi output from dj-202 to midi input on electribe 2) connect midi output from electribe to midi input on volca 3) change setting in the volca to run as slave to tempo over midi (www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/articles/how-do-i-set-up-my-korg-volca-series-synth-module-to-sync-to-an-external-midi-clock/ ) 4) change setting in the electribe to run as slave to tempo over midi (cdn.korg.com/us/support/download/files/b77b1482084a8677d7f5ba24efc6cd5e.pdf?response-content-disposition=inline%3Bfilename%2A%3DUTF-8%27%27electribe_PG_E4.pdf&response-content-type=application%2Fpdf%3B ) - section 5: global parameters, clock mode, external midi

These noises are good for house and maybe big room music. Going for the fast 150 bpms...not worth the beats unless you can throw your own sounds in the device. Good explanation.
Thanks Evan cool demo👍🏻
Good job

Arturia MicroBrute, but the midi tempo sync will work with any synthesizer that has midi input and an onboard pattern/sequencer

IM DOING A Christmas Eve PARTY AND I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO STOP JUST ONE SIDE
i cant sequence anything i can only use looped premade beats and i cant figure out why

you can sequence your own sounds via the Sampler within Serato. this way, you can layer the built-in drum sounds to give your beat bit more "umph"
opps sorry caps
