So good! He even added the muted rythmic strums Slash did on "where do we go" at 4:43! Perfect! When most sax players who swear by Charlie Parker probably wouldn't pay attention to a guitar solo in a rock song, it goes to show Jazz lovers the musicianship of Slash as a composer.
Clicked on this after seeing your Hotel California video. I am completely blown away by your craftsmanship. This once again is unbelievable Sax playing, not to mention everything else you do here. Hats off to you mate.
WHOA!!!! This dude is simply awesome - amazing. His saxo skills blew my mind...slash would be jealous. The entire crew of GnR would be extremely envious of him and his skills. Way to go man. Continue to excel and progress, do more such videos and share. Surely you will be right on top in no time at all...All the very best @Chris Gable.
Thanks for the kind words, very much appreciated! I've got a ton of videos planned so please subscribe (if you haven't already) and keep an eye out for new stuff.
I can't put into words how much I enjoy this masterpiece! Same as you I'm a huge fan of guitar music but instead play the sax ;) It was always my dream to play my favourite guitar solos, but never sure if it could come out right on the sax. This is such an inspiration, thank you!
Thanks so much for the kind words! I was really proud of this one, and am still frustrated it's got so few views... but very glad to hear it's being enjoyed and is inspiring people. Best of luck!
You are the sweet child of music itself your highness! ❤️ I was just thinking of songs that would sound great on a sax and I typed it on yt and I found God right on the top of the list! #fan #inspired and grateful to have had the chance to listen to you sir. Love love and love from India. Many thanks!
Wow! I was deeply touched by your performance. This copy is great, awesome. I'm Cho from SEOUL, South Korea. I became a huge fan of you. I subscribed, of course. I know you used some effects, but how did you play alto saxophone just like guitar solo. Amazing! I've played sax for several years, but I don't think I can catch up with you. You are genius, most talented I've ever seen. You deserve it. G&R they'll definitely admire your work. If I can go to Sydney to see you, it'll be a great honour to me. Thank you for your video.
Wow, thanks for the kind words! Glad you enjoyed it, I was pretty happy with this one. As far as the effects go, it was just a really simple guitar amp plugin (the free one that came with Cubase) and the wah effect I added afterwards using my mouse...!
OH MY GOD!!!! WOW!!! Amazing!!!! I used to play the Alto Sax in the elementary school band when I was a kid! I kind of regret not sticking with it. I have a Squire Stratocaster and I’ve not played in a while and want to get back into picking it up but I need to build a foundation again first.
Thanks man! Don't worry about building a foundation - all you need is to dedicate the time. I'm not a great guitarist by any stretch but the more time I spend on it the better I get, and the better I get the more I enjoy it. Go give that Squier a hiding.
Normally I don’t subscribe to people because of only one video, but I’ll gladly make an exception for this. Easily one of, if not, THE BEST cover I have ever seen of any song! Keep up the great work!
Very kind of you, thank you!! I work hard on these vids and they don't get much love, so it's really nice to get comments like yours. Deeply appreciated.
Making a guitar solo work on a sax. Ok, the sound effects made it almost sound like a guitar but anyway, that was a really great cover and some really fast fingers :-)
Appreciate it!! More subscribers would be good, yeah... would be even better having the subscribers I already have actually watch my videos... c'est la vie
Wow what a great video. I just thought I'd stop and take a look at the video to see how well the sacks can handle that song, it was very pleasantly surprised to see him play all those different instruments really great very great thank you
Freak, dude! You're so humble! This record was at least fantastic! You did the job! Where are the wrong notes dude? You did it perfect! Listening it here from Brazil. Hope someday I'll reach 10% of your talent! I actually play sax (satb), flute, clarinet and a little of bass. Thanks to share this work with us!
Do you have sheet notes for this song? I'd love to learn it but sheet note I find is without Slash's solo, and that's one of the thing that make this song so good
Sorry, learnt the whole thing by ear so no music for it. You can find it on Google for guitar easily, you'll just have to transpose it. Should only take you 10 mins or so to do by hand.
Awesome! I can only imagine how long that took to edit together! You effects on the sax solo make we want to be far more creative on my next project...
Ha yeah, it all made a lot more sense once I added the distortion & wah! Didn't take too long to chuck this one together to be honest - nothing tricky about the arrangement, just following the original. My recent cover of EASY was the one that took the most time...
Thanks man! Had a lot of fun making this one, really pleased with how it came out. I listened to this album a million times in my teens so I knew 95% of the solo by ear, played it more or less right the first time I tried... but that harmonic minor scale run-up halfway through the solo is a bit more complex than the rest. I found a transcription via Google; transposing & memorising it took about half an hour, perfecting it another half an hour. The take I used was I think the 3rd attempt. Not perfect but as close as I'm likely to get in a single take.
Amazing cover. This is going into my repeated watching list. Has anyone air saxed before? I think I may have invented it. I was so pumped duing the solo part that I was tapping my foot and head banging.
Amazing sound , realy great. Man im looking for SLASH SOLO transcription , do you know where i can found it ? im looking around internet but this specific solo i cant found anything, even in Eb. Please if you can help a guy that want to do a solo like you, or, more probabily, close.
Hey man - someone sent me this as a great breakdown of the solo. It's for guitar and in the wrong key but it at least enables you to transcribe it if you want to. www.justinguitar.com/songs/guns-n-roses-sweet-child-o-mine-main-solo-pt-1-2-chords-tabs-guitar-lesson-cs-012
awesome man. so good i have no choice but to convert the solo to tenor because i don't have an Alto won't sound as good but oh well.. but wow man that was sooo good.. even down to the chuckka chuckka sound with the keys in the break.. my wife is going to be hell sick of this song by the time i'm finished.
You can do it!! That opening solo line will actually be easier on tenor I think, E is a much easier to reach key than B on alto. The solo, though... that'll be a major challenge...!
Interested in how you got the tome for the solo. I can hear some wa wa and pick sounds too if my ears are correct. Just wondering if you added any effects or anything?
Yeah I put distortion & wah on after recording it, using the (extremely basic!) guitar modelling plugins my old version of Cubase came with. I don't actually own a wah pedal so the best I could do was to "play" the virtual wah pedal with my mouse. Very cheap crappy way of going about it but it sort of works!
Thanks so much! Sax is a Selmer SA80 S2. Mouthpiece is a clear plastic Dukoff 6. Effects are just the free amp modelling plugins that came with Cubase!
Hello Chris! I just found out about this video. It is GREAT! I am trying to play it on my alto sax. I have to say... Its when you start to play it, that you trully apprecciate the effort and talent of the artist! I am still very far from your quality and relaxation. I still sound a bit like a goose screaming! :)... But.. I will get there, eventually! :) My question for you: What reed and mouth piece are you using and what sax (both Alto and Tenor) do you have?
Hi Fernando! Thanks for watching! ALTO: Mouthpiece for this one was my plastic Dukoff D5. I've since switched to a metal Theo Wanne Earth 2, which is pretty similar but slightly less harsh. Reed would be a Vandoren 2.5, either a ZZ or a Java (which I can't tell a difference between so just buy whatever they have at the store). Sax is a Selmer SA80 SII. TENOR: Mouthpiece is a modified Otto Link 8*, not sure its history or who changed it but it's silver (which I've never seen before) and one of the rails is wider than the other so someone has filed some parts of it away. Works great, whatever it is. Sax is a Yanagisawa T901. BREATHING: I dunno, I guess just years of playing..? It's not something I've ever worked on! A softer reed (2.5) helps with air efficiency, much easier to blow than a 3, but beyond that I don't think there's any secret beyond just having a decent lung capacity.
I get now in your channel.I play the saxophone too, because you play very well!how long you play the saxophone? Or batter, how long your play the saxophone and music? What did you use in the alto saxophone this music? Where is you from? Congratulations my brother!! Amazing! Good night! Thanks!

Hope that answers your questions!
AWESOME!!! ¿How did you make the sound of the saxophone sound like an electric guitar in the SLASH SOLO? Can tell me please?. I play Saxophone and I watched this video 100 times hahah, You is my inspiration for to be a best musician. Hugs from BRAZIL, bye bye.
Thanks for watching, glad you like it! I like it too, it's one of my best. The sax solo sound was made using a simple distortion plugin within Cubase, really nothing fancy. It's made for guitars but works well with sax or vocals or anything. I added the wah pedal effect afterwards - again just a free plugin. ook a bit of tweaking but there's no complicated software or equipment being used, my studio is VERY basic! Cheap mics and cheap software.
Hahahaha nah I don't have the patience to sit there writing this stuff out. I just learnt it all by ear, I've been listening to that solo since I was 13 so it didn't actually take long to learn it - just that harmonic minor run-up halfway through the solo was the only tricky bit. Wow, thank you! I always felt this particular video deserved a few more hits... but it appears to only be impressive to other sax players...!!
New fan - this is really awesome. somehow the solos sound better on sax than on guitar :O please make more full length sax covers like this.
Thanks for the kind words and the sub! More on the way.
@@chrisgable1 do you have the transcription of the solo?
I got to say that the dual-screen solo thing is simply genius. It also sounds epic!
Very handy having a photographer for a wife - we've got a LOT of cameras in the house
This sax solo be giving me chills
I wanna be able to play that
This cover is excellent, played the song especially the solo more accurate than guitar covers I’ve seen here in UA-cam.

Cara melhor versão do UA-cam 👏🎷
This is just amazing! I'm so blown away by your performance. I don't know what is wrong with UA-cam's algorithm, this video deserves million views!
OMG, that is impressive. You put the electric guitar to shame with your sax. Love it!
Thanks!!

Poxa!!! Foi um dos solos de sax comparando a guitarra que mais achei parecido!!! Parabéns!!!!
This is my mom's favorite song and I totally jammed to this!
Haha - your mom must be old like me...! Glad you enjoyed it, I had fun making this one.
Excelent. Thanks for the fingering close-ups, very useful for a beginner like me, @ 0.75x is a real tutorial. Congrats from Brazil.
Excellent! Glad it was helpful, that was the idea behind filming it that way.
You killed it!!!! Such a GREAT job with the video portions also. Beyond SWEET!
Super awesome. man. The solo is just freaking great on SAX.
I thought so too! Not all of them lend themselves to sax but this one definitely does.
It's really amazing!!!...
Best sax solo in youtube
Dude! I'm waiting for more such covers!♥️
More to come! Open to suggestions too.
Absolutely awesome! It took me a few months to learn how to play this decent. This is the video behind that inspiration. Thanks.
Damn! That sax solo was awesome!

Oh man! This is amazing!!!

Jesus the solo is way too impressive very well done
Thanks! Took 3-4 attempts to get it all in one go; it's not perfect but it's pretty close.
OMFG... SO Underappreciated....
... Yeah I kinda think so too. Reckon this deserves more views than all my other videos. Oh well.
absolutely the best sax cover of this song! I really like this. Keep it up bro!
Thanks man! I was pretty pleased with how this one turned out.
Like the alto sax melody, tenor was great also, u deserve more subscriber.

Bloody blew me up..incredible talent. Been looking for something like this for a long time. Blew my mind..thank you so much
Thanks heaps. I'm pretty pleased with this one myself.
That lead lick on saxophone isn't easy. Guitar players notes don't stop when they need to take a breath. Kudos
Yeah finding the best places to breathe took a few goes...!
Circular breathing could make it easier but I’m not sure as I’m still trying to learn it
Wow what a great video. I just thought I'd stop and take a look at the video to see how well the sacks can handle that song, it was very pleasantly surprised to see him play all those different instruments really great very great thank you

My question for you: What reed and mouth piece are you using and what sax (both Alto and Tenor) do you have?
One other thing... How can you hold your breath for SO long and not pass out? :)
