The Lakers the last 2 seasons, their pace per game was 102 whereas the Jazz in those 2 years Wright is showing had a pace of 89 so a difference of 13 possessions. That means with Malone's stats as is he'd average more point rebounds and assists per game than LeBron. Wright just throws numbers out sans context.
While youre somewhat correct, Karl Malone in no universe would get more assists than lebron. While it's true pace was slower back then, that also meant players needed less cardio conditioning and got hurt much less often. So you can make several different arguments for or against eras which is why it's no use trying to compare stats.

Yeah but what they don't understand is that MVP Karl Malone was doing those numbers when the league was also averaging like 91 points a night lol. This is very disrespectful of Karl Malone a very great player. We don't have to disrespect one player to prop up another.
Karl Malone was a much better defender. Probably the best legit post defender I ever seen. Most defenders that defend the paint are shotblockers. Like Gobert. Malone could legit guard centers and power forwards. Could even switch to smaller players. 6th all tome in defensive win shares
Why don’t they do a revised comparison based on the average point increase? For instance - if teams score 20% more points per game in this era - add 20% to that stat.
Back in Karl Malone's time the was much physical, teams were more physical and scoring was much more difficult. And as Cherry on top, the probability of getting injured was much higher impacting the players longevity in the League.
LeBron has obviously had a better career than Karl, but lets not act like LeBron has close to the strength that Karl had. Karl would guard Shaq at the end of games, had good post moves, screened and rolled better than anyone, and had a rock solid mid range game. Offensive rating (points per 100 possessions) disregards tempo and number of possessions in a game. So really todays NBA outscored Malone’s NBA by 10 points per 100 possessions. The league’s offense efficiency might be a bigger explanation of why LBJ’s stats look so much better.
The 80s were identical
I almost imploded when they said it was Bru's last day...this week😂
So is he (bru) leaving the show soon?
Nick wright is signed to Clutchsport, it’s unprofessional for him not disclosing that info
In 1990 Malone played all 82 games and put up 31/11 on 56% shooting. Off court, he's a scumbag, but on the court, dude was a monster
The most sensible comment so far
I agree, he's a Monster on and off the court.
Difference is bron still a monster goin into yr 21 😂
so then don't you mean, on the court, dude was a monster.... off the court
dude was a monster
What was Malone in year 21 though
“Josh, still employed” was some beautifully subtle shade at ESPN lmao
Malone made all defensive first team both of his MVP seasons.
-🎯🎯🎯🎯
While youre somewhat correct, Karl Malone in no universe would get more assists than lebron. While it's true pace was slower back then, that also meant players needed less cardio conditioning and got hurt much less often. So you can make several different arguments for or against eras which is why it's no use trying to compare stats.
@@DeadSezSoAlso help defense/ zone was considered illegal Defence which resulted in a lot of dudes standing around while one player goes iso on the opposite wing. Imagine what LeBron could’ve done with that “illegal defense” rule, people aren’t ready for that convo tho lol
@@DeadSezSo not necessarily when it comes to cardio. Players then played more games, more minutes and shorter rotations. 8-10 players with the roster at 12 max and 3 on reserve.
Now, players play less minutes, less games, and longer rotations...9-12 players. 15 players with 18 max.
Yes, I understand the pace is more but a similary paced late 70's to mid '80's had guys again playing more minutes per player per game. While I'll concede Malone would average less assists however it wouldn't be by much.
They took around the same amount of shots those
Lebron only played 110 games the last 2 years. Karl malone in 19 seasons played less than 80 games twice.
Karl malone didn't have to cover as much ground as players do today. Playoff mileage is a factor also.
You can put Stockton in that bracket too

That’s why I don’t understand why he don’t want to play in the post. Karl Malone was an absolute unit. And he was a great athlete in his prime
He could extend his career even more if he did that on top of the HGH.

Chris is incapable of listening to the point and understanding nuance. He's dense.

@@robaustin_Why do people keep saying this when it's not true? LBJ averaged 21.8 fga last year and 22.2 this season. Malone average 19.2 fga in 1997 and 16.3 in 1999.
So, the 2 seasons Nick uses, LBJ took 22 shots a game and Malone took under 18 shots per game.
Yeah but what they don't understand is that MVP Karl Malone was doing those numbers when the league was also averaging like 91 points a night lol. This is very disrespectful of Karl Malone a very great player. We don't have to disrespect one player to prop up another.

Why don’t they do a revised comparison based on the average point increase? For instance - if teams score 20% more points per game in this era - add 20% to that stat.
I always say, go back 20 years, and 25 points in the 90s-early 2000s is equal to about 30 points today.
Back in Karl Malone's time the was much physical, teams were more physical and scoring was much more difficult. And as Cherry on top, the probability of getting injured was much higher impacting the players longevity in the League.
The true meaning of Power Forward he doesn't have Malone's Heart.
The probability of injury is statistically higher today.
yea that last part is just a straight up a lie
LeBron has obviously had a better career than Karl, but lets not act like LeBron has close to the strength that Karl had. Karl would guard Shaq at the end of games, had good post moves, screened and rolled better than anyone, and had a rock solid mid range game. They're totally different players so the whole conversation is a typical "it's summer, we've got nothing to talk about" conversation.
I scrolled down to the comments, was not disappointed.
It's already stated its easier to score in this era so the LBJ numbers are inflated. LeBron is more athletic but Malone would bully LBJ on the block.

Karl Malone is athletic. End to end he was faster than some guards. Lebron would be more like later years Magic Kohnson if he lost athletic prowess
Lebron compared to Karl Malone is like comparing Reggie Miller to Stephen Curry.... Accept this generation of players does everything better.
They surely don't defend or stay healthy in comparison to back then.
Not defense.

lol. Nick Wright clearly didn't watch basketball in the 1990s. The game was slower. 27ppg was way more impressive than 29ppg now. Malone's points, rebounds, and assists were all far more impressive; Malone was a more impactful player in his prime than Lebron is right now. Nick's argument is borderline insane.
Thanks Chris

LeBron in the past few years clearly only care about offensive stats. it's the combination of he knows 99% of the fans only care about offensive stats, AND father time that he knows he can no longer use energy on both ends of the floor like he used to.
Because he’s 38 he can’t give you both end of the floor.
2020 Lebron was a beast on the defensive end tough.
stop comparing eras..There is zero defense in today's NBA and lacks the following.
Rich Paul opinion don't mean a thing. a prime karl malone is way better than a prime lebron.
This take really showed Nick’s Lebron bias, which hurts his objectivity and clouds his other arguments about Lebron (which he has great takes on Lebron) … The comparison of Lebron’s last two years and Malone’s MVP years based on numbers is what we call playing the numbers and shows that you can find numbers to argue anything you want… if there is no context… anything out of context is a pretext…
He doesn't have great takes on Lebron. Thats false.
