You - hiding behind a phony name - don't get it. Leary is upset to have to cause
these cats such distress in order to get them to a vet. He is reassuring himself
at the same time he's trying to reassure the poor cats. It takes a kind, loving
heart to understand this. Why some of you think this is funny are really
pathetic people who need to suffer a bit in life to appreciate what Mr. Leary
is going through. He, my friend, is doing the right thing - cleaning up the
mess another person left. Been there, done that???

For anyone doing this you should cover the cage as soon as they are trapped. Also since they don't understand human language you should be as quiet as possible once they are trapped. Hope that helps. Congratulations on being so patient.

  • @o0Avalon0o
    @o0Avalon0o 6 років тому +5

Great job!!! I successfully did almost the same, I work at home so I did have time to socialize them and "lure" them into my home; slowly getting closer and closer to their food until I could pet them as they were eating.
It took at least a month just to get them used to me outside, not everybody has that kind of time and it's better to get them safe and to the vet to be fixed, since cats start breeding so early.
I've never seen this traping method. It worked well here, I can see how they could've pushed out the corner of the door so I'd try to find a sturdier method, but congradulations on your success!
You sound like such a nice guy. I'm glad they made their way to you.

Mom is back eating the cat food we provide in the barn and sleeping in her new cat bed. She is seen out hunting just about every day now so she has obviously recovered well from her surgery.
As for the kittens... They are all in good shape physically and are being socialized in the shelter. The shelter folks expect them to be ready for adoption in another week or two. I saw them when I picked up the mom and you can see the kittens were already more comfortable around people. A good ending!!!

It's going to be tricky .

They are all going to get spayed next week and they are staying together as far as shelter I don't want to spend money unless they will use it so im using a plastic bin lined w heat reflective around bin and putting a heat pad for winter and if they dont use it well thats up to them...its hard to figure these cats im so confused

  • @maleary

It was my first cat/kitten capture -- and all I had was a dog crate. And it was recommended by local shelter that I capture Mom and kittens together. All were fine and all calmed down and began eating again in about 15 minutes. I did cover the crate for transport to the local shelter.
All were tested for FIV. None had FIV. Thank goodness! Mom was spade and returned to me last week. She is a wild animal at this point and it was best to return her to my barn and woods.

you did the right thing, and Im sure you got the momma fixed and babies to a foster. it is hard to see them so frighten, they dont know we are helping them. it is hard on us people too, to see them so afraid and question if we are doing the right thing by putting them though what is ultimately a very temporary stress. I have captured feral kittens and cried over separating the cat mother from the kittens, but my logic told me that the mother would soon drive the kittens off to form their own territories and the cycle of cats having more kittens to live in a cruel and dangerous would start over again. the momma I captured was fixed and is now happy, and all her kittens are fixed with happy indoor homes! its hard to rescue, it would be easier not to care, but its the right thing to do. thank you everyone who does their best to help animals, you are all what it right with the world. it may seem like a small act, but it means so much. :)

And to the haters and potential animal abusers who posted here.... you are the lowest of the low. Animal abuse is a felony. The very idea you would even hint at abusing these helpless animals says more about your lack of humanity than anything I could say. I have been helping ferals most of my life - there is nothing more rewarding than the love an animal learns to give after developing trust in a human being who tried to help them. Perhaps you should learn about that rather than suggest ways to hurt or torture. It makes me sick to see all the horrible things people do to animals for their insane "pleasure". Get a life instead of trying to take one..

Emily Sakkab Why in blue bloody hell do you have carpet on your patio? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. There are ways to prevent the spraying.... but apparently you are too lazy to look it up. Your dogs are far more likely to pee and poo somewhere other than your yard (which is probably why the cats are marking it). And the ferals you trap and remove will only allow others to take their place. That's how feral populations work.
Find a TNR group and have them come take care of the problem. Again, this is not rocket science. When we had ferals (we got them all spayed and neutered and got their shots, then brought them inside) they never left the yard. Really tired of the haters. Please go find somewhere else to vent your venom. Let those of us who happen to love animals and want to care for those who are abandoned do so.

I read some comments hear wishing cats harm or calling them filthy. Cats are beautiful and amazing animals, they are important part
of the eco system. Those who wish them harm are mentally unwell. Obviously this man cares a great deal about all animals and is doing
his best to help them by capturing them, give him a break. Thank you for this video.

It's simple. Once the trap door closes, go boil a kettle full of water and pour it over them. That should get them to fall in line.

  • @booieaboo1052

If you're a true animal lover and smart you get to the point where you don't HAVE any more room in your home and there are not enough foster homes, money to take care of kittens so very pregnant cats are spayed when trapped. Its heartbreaking but less cruel than whats happening to all of the excess cats/kittens in most communities.

I love how the mom comes out to check on her babies, she see's their enjoying a meal and at the same time you can tell she's thinking this ain't good, this ain't good at all. The way she looks around the cage, but she's hungry and willing to take a chance and there goes the door closing. Her and her babies desperately looking for a way out.

Personally I would have put a cover over the cage. Cats like to be covered when they are afraid. It makes them feel safe. We put our two cats in a similar cage when we take them to the vet and put a cover over the cage to make them feel secure. Maybe your cats wouldn't have jumped around so much if you had covered the cage. Just a suggestion. Glad the kittens and mother cat found a good home.
