I am glad to see that someone has put a video on here that shows how to re-tip a cue for those of us that may not have a lathe in our garage or basement.

I went into the shop to get mine done, one of the cue makers done it for me for just a few pounds, John was there and was happy for me to chew his ear for 15 minutes. The shop is a little tricky to find but if you are lucky you may bump into a pro whilst there, John is a terrific fellah, he has a very calming manor and instantly makes you feel welcome and at home.

I am not an expert in Snooker or Cues, but I just love to watch the game. I have often wondered if ever, it was possible to use a ferrule with a tip that could be just screwed on and off to the cue, so that in times of a crucial match event, if ever the tip gets damaged, one could just replace the tip with the ferrule in no time. Just expressing a possibility, as I said I am no expert to judge what the result would be on the cue and striking and its working feasibility. If anyone knows if that could be a workaround, please let me know. :) Thanks~! :)
Cues in bars and so on have scewed on tips. I believe the performance does not meet the requirements of professional snooker players (maybe because the force transmission is not as good)
I take it you guys don't create milk duds or put the tips in a compressor? How long does a tip last without these methods? I will use your scratch technique and find the hardest. Worried about mushrooming. Just had a LePro put on professionally by a shop with a lathe, and it fell off 2 days later during play (total of 5 hours of play). I had to keep reshaping after every frame as it kept mushrooming.
sir,i have a question i bought a mizerak pool cue from dicks sporting goods store came with case,chalk,scuffer,tips...took it uptown put cue on table it was warped,i took it back to exchange it,store manager looked at the other same cues all warped...my question is...can you fix a warped cue stick?i got a differant cue,it was waped...i duct taped it to the door,i left it there over night,t seems like it fixed it slightly
well-made cues won't warp much if at all. you get what you pay for. the process of fixing a warped cue (if you absolutely can't part ways with it) involves steaming the shaft, which you would usually never want to do, because that could easily make the shaft irreparable if overdone. after setting your shaft over a pot of boiling water (until the pot is empty) at a good height, you'll want to apply a constant heavy pressure as it dries. you could use some heavy books or something like that. it'll take a week or two. this most likely isn't worth the time and effort. for cheap cue, it's better to just buy another shaft. i couldn't envision myself going through this process unless i were to have a super expensive ($800+) custom shaft done to my exact specifications. tl;dr: cheap wood is cheap. get something else
When are we ordinary people going to get the chance to play with one of those JP cues when they are more expensive than a car? Make a series that’s affordable please 🙏
that is actually elk master. i have changed my cue tip for years and i always use elk master. the color doesn't have to do with the brand. it's blue because of chalk

If you're worried about sanding the wood wrap some paper around the shaft and feral and stick with tape

It sounds like you had a soft tip. Mine only mushrooms for abit after I put on a new one. I reshape and it's good to go.

I put tape on the ferrule or the brass will get wafer thin over the years - unless you've got titanium.

tl;dr: cheap wood is cheap. get something else
put the warped cue in a lathe and with a chisel. shave off the wood until it is straight. Works like a charm.
The trick is to use steam, that is how the cue makers straighten them. It is also a go way of getting rid of dents in the wood.

If you want to get a flat base on your tip you should use a figure of eight motion as is done then honing a chisel! 😊

Hi, yes it is possible to remove the brass ferrule, just apply some heat to the f errule and it will slide straight off
