+Andrew C Although even on some of the Coach's Corners in the later 2000s Ron was still on point. He would let Don go on about something and like someone watching an Ebay auction count down he would interject with one of his famous just before they would cut to commercial and you could see the exasperation on Don's face that his colleague got the last word in.

I respectfully disagree. I think he fucking loved it. It was great television, and the majority of Canadian hockey fans loved it too. If I was half a friend to Don Cherry that Ron is, I consider that an honour. "that bitch didn´t mean a thing to me."

Early in 1985, Vince McMahon put Jesse Ventura opposite himself commentating WWF wrestling. Starting from there, they've run with the "straight man"/"heel" commentary teams right up to this day. But here in this video we can clearly see that Vince got the idea from Hockey Night In Canada, and this right here is the original "straight man"/"heel" team.

I can remember some of these when they went down. Going to miss this guy. He was a real part of why I kept watching hockey. Looks like they took another piece away that made it worth watching. Every year it gets softer and sadder and less Canadian too.

01:11 - There is no way that could have been 1981 - Ron MacLean was barely 21 & wasn't anywhere near the CBC yet, and Mats Näslund wasn't in the NHL yet. Probably 1987, a typo on their part.
Naslund played from '82-'90...Maybe the clip was from 83,84 ? Its an old HNIC one, for sure.
