    This original Let's Make a Deal was a fun game to watch.I was a kid and watched it every chance I got.It was a surprise to see what the prize was behind the curtain, and which prize the player would choose.Those old cars and appliances look funny now, even though I grew up during the 1960's and 1970's.I remember that Speigel catalog.My parents would get the thick catalog of it, just like Sears and Montgomery Ward mailed out.They had over 1000 pages.My brothers and I eagerly awaited the Sears Xmas catalog to arrive in the mail, and would pour over it so much that some of the pages would get loose.LOL.

    The real reason I loved the 1970s game shows was because not only for the true suspense (a la "New Treasure Hunt" and "Let's Make a Deal"), but you could actually see U.S. currency now out of circulation, or at least somewhat! Look at those beautiful $500 and $1000 bills! Pure nostalgia to me!

    Good old Monty! His voice is a voice in my head describing my childhood mornings with my mom. I'll carry that voice to my grave, and after that maybe I'll get to meet Monty and make a Deal.

    An ABC Films Presentation: this indicates a 1971 to 1973 rerun. Due to FCC rules, ABC (along with CBS and NBC) had to divest its syndication operations; in ABC's case this was renamed Worldvision Enterprises, Inc. 1973-74 season shows had "A WORLDVISION ENTERPRISES INC. PRESENTATION" complete with Radar Globe; for the 1974-75 season, a disclaimer was added below ("Not affiliated with World Vision International, a religious and charitable organization") after said company had threatened to sue the syndicator. Today, this syndicator, through various mergers, is now part of CBS Television Distribution.

    I was born in 1984 and I've been crazy about vintage game shows since the vintage years. Amazingly, I found that my daughter absolutely LOVES 1970s-1980s game shows too. She is the best father's daughter. We watch Card Sharks, Let's Make a Deal, Press Your Luck, Richard's Family Feud, Match Game (my favorite), Barker's Price is Right, Password Plus...there's so many. And with my daughter being a preteen in 2018, that is just awesome. What are the odds these days?! We finally migrated into Let's Make a Deal and, of course she has great taste; we'll be binge-watching Monty until UA-cam fails to deliver more.

      @Tre404 6 років тому +3

      Not rare whatsoever. It's just that you don't see them in circulation, naturally. They're still used today, but for much larger transactions than you or I engage in.

      The Federal Reserve withdrew from circulation all bills denominated above $100 in 1969. Afterward, Stefan Hatos/Monty Hall Productions had a supply of genuine $500 and $1000 bills, which were used repeatedly. (In the end, contestants received a check for cash winnings.)

      They were in use for decades until the feds started destroying them in 1969. All the 1k billsare now in collector's hands same as the 500 bills. They should make the 500 bills again 100 dollars isn't much money anymore

    Checking up an early 70s ABC schedule.. Looks like this was preceded by All My Children then followed by The Newlywed Game and The Dating Game, followed by General Hospital and One Life To Live. NBC and (especially) CBS really got deluged with soap operas in their daily lineup!

    what year was the episode made

    • @marka1422
      @marka1422 7 років тому

      Actually, by looking at the cars and their bumpers, the year would either be '71 or '72. The '73 automobiles had the new 5 MPH front safety bumpers. Personally, I think this is from '72 by the look of the Cadillac.

    • @tomkat5626
      @tomkat5626 7 років тому +3

      It's from 1972, no doubt. That Chevrelet Vega is the same car from the early episodes of ''The Price Is Right''.

    • @marka1422
      @marka1422 7 років тому

      Yeah, the Vega came out in '70 and didn't get a facelift in styling until the '74 model. The front end of the Cadillac looked very similar in both'71 and '72, which is why I couldn't pinpoint the precise time. Now if they'd have shown a full-size Chevy or Ford from that era, I could easily pinpoint the year. Oh well!
