I have the Altair Astro variant and though it hasn’t seen much action due to the weather I’m extremely happy with it. I couldn’t justify the price of the 26C (IMX571) and I worried the 269C would be a disappointment. I needn’t have been concerned. One thing I have noticed is the improvement in results with a bit more integration time. Under 10-12 hours and it’s decent if not spectacular. I managed nearly 27 hours on NGC7000 with my Redcat 51 and even in my clumsy hands it was a delight to process. Clear skies, good health and best wishes for 2024 🔭
Hi Ben I hope you are well? I have the Altair Astro version of this camera a 269C & I agree they don't get pushed online enough. My first CMOS camera was the 269C & after a couple of blips getting used to it I found my astro photography journey had vastly improved, ok so it's colour not mono but with a pixel size of 3.3 microns & the lack of amp glow they are a brilliant camera. I did sell it to fund a 26C (APSC IMX571 sensor) & that to is a great performer. But you know what I eventually bought another 269C to add to the collection because I like it that much. Merry Christmas Ben! Interesting camera, 20mp, no amp glow, 3.3 microns, sounds good for medium focal lengths (like above 600mm?) I have the qhy 183 and I like it (despite the amp glow) because of its resolution and pixel size, ideal for small refractors. So thanks for this mini review. All the best in 2024!
Hey Ben! First of all Merry Christmas and good health! I believe QHY is about to release a Sony Pregius S based camera which is a back illuminated rolling shutter. No amp glow and small pixels. They already have a IMX530 (24MP Square) based camera available but it is $8000! I wish other manufactures would do the same as the new Preguis S sensors support hardware binning! So you get CCD like binning on a CMOS camera in which binning actually lowers the read noise! Happy to see you are still doing well. Clear Skies!
Where are these available? I just started astrophotography and subscribed to your channel. I am having some difficulties finding some of the Orion cameras you have reviewed. In a previous review where you were discussing amp glow on the ASI294x, and the ASI533x you recommended another Orion camera with low amp glow that i could not find used or new trying to find a G21 i think. Thanks for the good work, just wondering about sourcing some of these recommendations. Thanks again.
They must be out of stock. Orion does not have anything on their website right now. There are also some other brands that carry it like Altair and Touptec.

Amp glow seems to be a thing of the past on most new cameras these days, sensor improvements are light years ahead of even a decade ago.

I am actually not familiar with that sensor yet. Sonys sensor website does not work very well since they changed the look of it.
