Mutagen formula is still my favorite scenario. Thematically It's so strong and I honestly think that the challenge on expert is hard but not unfair like some other villains are.
Very true! Also I highly recommend checking out the standard set from Con of Heroes this year if you havent see it yet! It deals a lot with the nemesis set! Its called Standard Rivalry: conofheroes.com/print-and-play/
I'm pretty sure 'Fanaticism'/s came about because SSSOOOO many players used the 'chump-blocker' technique to "extreme". Probably a little Collector I mechanic too (did they go too far?)! It was, after all previously, a totally viable game mechanic to use. Rather than leave it up to maybe 1-2 boost effects per boss to get around it...and we already had "Target Acquired" in the game to stop that! Same reason the game needed (as expansions/options improved) more Villain use of status protection. 2ER (maybe less) each turn to just "stun-lock" the villain became too easy due to prevalence/reliability of access to apply status'. I like "Standard II" and Steady as a solution. I think MORE boosts effects that work in a "partial" effect when main nullified would be interesting to see. We "players" have ways to choose timing like baby attacks from an ally to clear a (total defense) tough status and then big attack with Honned-Dive Bomb, the villains don't typically get that except through 'boosts' & attachments.
Great video. Some thoughts: -My Absorbing Man house rule: the threshold of the Main Scheme is reduced by one for each delay counter on it. That simple change really improves the scenario. -I like Zola more than you. I absolutely adore Red Skull (somewhere in my top 3) -Kang... I think the different stages 3 of main scheme should have different game effects.
@@NelsonAllOverCards as I continue watching the video: -Agree with all you've said about GMW's villains. -My Tower Defense variant: when playing stand-alone put 1 (per player) damage on the tower as a part of villain's phase 1. Easy fix. -I like Thanos better than you do. Hella is another favorite villain of mine. -Loki is obscene hehe. I think this scenario is not well balanced for different player counts (specially because of his side schemes), but I still enjoy playing against him.
Love your videos and really enjoy the rankings! Trying to put context to what makes a villain experience fun, so I'm curious, what percentage of games that you play do you loose vs win? Also what percentage do you play solo vs multiplayer?
I know this video was a while ago now, but re: Venom vs Venom - the weird interaction is with Agent Venom nemesis side scheme. You can't remove threat from it while a symbiote enemy is in play, so if it comes out it becomes a permanent extra encounter card until you win
Re: Venom v Venom, they state that you really should treat them as separate things "Honestly, we think that if a player wanted to play Venom against Venom, then they should be able to. We recognize the rules reference states that only one copy of each unique card by title can be in play, but there is also no specific ruling in place for when a hero and a villain share the same title (unlike a unique minion and another character with the same title). Just be sure that, if you do this, cards that target a specific “Venom” affect the appropriate one (like Run and Gun should only affect the Venom hero, since it’s one of the cards in his set)." Nebula is the one they have problems with having nebula v nebula, and weird interations with nebula/gamora team up
Oh awesome thanks for the clarification! Now I wish I could have some of Venom's cards benefit me like when Gamora's nemesis Side Scheme comes out and your Nebula teammate gets more powerful lol
Based on your tier list, it sounds like your favorite boxes for villains are: 1. Mutant Genesis 2. Sinister Motives 3. Rise of Red Skull 4. Mad Titan's Shadow 5. Galaxy's Most Wanted Any changes you would make to that ranking when you factor in heroes and modulars?
I don't like expert and so my experience with these villains are very different. I tried expert once and...never again. I only enjoy playing this game on standard.
Still watching thru this, but one item no one brought up on Taskmaster is that he is really annoying on heroes with multiple forms (ant man, wasp, etc) as you get pinged every time you change forms.
I still don’t get this. The card says when you change TO hero form. Ant man going from giant to tiny is not changing TO hero form… he is ALREADY in hero form. When captain America changes from alter ego TO hero he has now changed TO hero form. Why should changing from giant to tiny be different? It doesn’t make sense and the taskmaster card is clearly worded. Can anyone point to the rule? I just don’t get it.
@@psovitzky they are still changing to an(other) hero form. the official ruling (on halllofheroes) was that: “Yes, if Ant-Man or Wasp changes from hero form to hero form, Taskmaster will deal damage to them”.
@@psovitzky so I think they way it was ruled is that when you change hero forms you are changing to a hero form. I think of it like if I am at a store I can still go to another store. Hero form is not a state of a game, but the side of a card. If it was the second way you mentioned i think it would be worded “when you switch from alter ego to hero form” or something along those lines Not the most intuitive rule at all haha
Risky Business can be gamed… until you put in the infinity gauntlet and Sinister Six mod set… lol but Seriously mod set variety has completely changed the difficulty in the game.
Don’t have wrecking crew yet. But the lack of modularity doesn’t seem like a big deal to me, couldn’t you just add a mod to each villains encounter deck
That may work, but it might just make it easier… since you are only resolving a Card from each deck then you probably won’t see a lot of synergy in those mod sets and then you are seeing less of the cards that interact with the scenario itself
Who are your favorite villains to face off against?
Loki and Magneto , they’re hard but i enjoy battling them hehe
Loki, mojo and sandman. Sinister six and risky business are runners up
Mutagen formula is still my favorite scenario. Thematically It's so strong and I honestly think that the challenge on expert is hard but not unfair like some other villains are.
Mansion Attack might be my new favorite. I love how they did it, and how it s slightly different each time you go then it.
Its so cool! So much variety and tactical decisions based off the combo!
Mysterio is in my top 3 because he has encounter sets that bring your nemesis minions and side scheme which I always love to see
Very true! Also I highly recommend checking out the standard set from Con of Heroes this year if you havent see it yet! It deals a lot with the nemesis set! Its called Standard Rivalry: conofheroes.com/print-and-play/
Hi Nelson, love your list. I think you need to make video about favorite Modular set.
Oooh that sounds fun! I will put it in the queue! Thanks for the suggestion
I agree with Villain Theory on Magneto, he's a great final boss. Tough but fair, they got it right.
SM Venom has a boost ability in there that gives an attack piercing, a small chance but it's there.
I really enjoy venom golblin when played without the advanced glider.
Yeah, I will only play Venom Goblin with Goblin Gimmicks instead of Goblin Gear. The glider is just unfun.
