Cool. Similar but different idea here. I mounted a wireless backup camera to the back of my travel trailer, but wired so it turns on with my headlights so I can use it while driving.

Love that idea. I’ve seen some cool wireless cams

the FJ's backup camera is located in the center of the spare wheel from the factory
the one you have is added by the dealer
I still don't know why some dealers cheap out on it and install an aftermarket one.
I have a 16 FJ from the Saudi dealer and it comes with the factory camera that works on the rearview mirror
another example is The UAE's dealer puts the camera in one of the license plate lights .

That’s crazy! I honestly never knew that because I have been the only owner and had it customized how I wanted it. Thanks for the insight.

Why not mount it in the middle of the spear wheel?

Thought about it, but I may want to put a Trasharoo on the spare at some point which would cover the camera. Also, just wanted to try something different.

I'm guessing you don't tow anything. Unique idea just the same.

I do. Kayak trailer. The magnetic mount allows me to take it in and out in 5 seconds.

Im glad you know your definitely oblivious to your surroundings. If you need a back up cam on a FJ that you cant even use with a trailer hitch attached🤦‍♂️
Learn to use your mirrors and have situational awareness. 👎

The backup cam is for things hiding behind the spare tire that are not visible to mirrors. I expressed this in the video, but I must have not made it clear enough… if you watched the whole video, the purpose of the magnet was so that I COULD STILL USE THE TRAILER HITCH. Even with a trailer attached I can position the camera to where it would best be useful…but honestly, the camera is not very useful when the trailer is attached, unless I stretch the cam to a position above the spare tire. However, I always hesitate trusting the camera, but I always trust my mirrors…and grammar ;)
