Thats the best thing about this channel, no matter how late i am to a particular game, i can always find good quality helpful content to kickstart my learning process
Nice game! Two comments: 1) Ivan's setup was the most difficult for the solo player, because, as you pointed out, the actions were in the "logical" order. At the end of the video you tried another random setup for Ivan, but he would be losing two actions in the first 5 turns of the game, so that's the easiest setup for the solo player. 2) about the "left to right, bottom to top" dispute: I haven't read the forums on BGG, nor can I know what the designer was thinking, neither in what language the rules were written. BUT, when you read a book you read it from left to right, top to bottom. This means that you finish a line before going to the next line; so the "left to right" part has precedence over the "top to bottom". As written in the rules, the "left to right, bottom to top" should mean that Ivans first claims the ground floor (left to right); if the ground floor is alread fully claimed, he should move to the next (upper) floor. This is just from a linguistic point of view. As I said, I don't know what the intent of the designer was.
I did beat the automa by about the same score as you did on my first try. I think allowing the bot to place adornments at will would increase the difficulty, as it was easy to game the system to prevent that. I also was lucky in the order that the bot's cards came out as it took two full rounds before it could complete a building section. Good game. Thanks for the video. As always, very helpful.
Darren, that’s so you can lose a rep point or two when censured by the Tsar. Also, you can increase the difficulty level by giving Ivan a few reputation or even prestige points before the game starts.
Hi, Thanks for this video. I was to buy that game but I am not convince by this solo mode. And I do need a solo mode if I want to play a game more than twice. Honestly 1st game easy victory... not a good sign. The automa is too much predictable when you know its 5 next actions. Maybe not revealing the dices (having them face down and when the automa plays turn them) could add some difficulty? Also, having its actions cards also mixed and not revealed? And in that case, add conditions like: if he can't do the action he gain recognition points or ressources corresponding to the dice spot... Do you thing that could work? This game looks really great but the solo mode does not! It looks like it was put in with few effort just to write it on the box in order to attract more customers. So thanks again for the video!
You can make the automa start the game with more prestige points, let’s say 3, and then increase it gradually game by game if it get too easy too beat it. I think I’m gonna do that next time.
Looking at the last tower the value is 8. There are 3 cards and 2 decorations. Ivan has 2 cards wich is worth 4 and Paul has 1 card and 2 decorations wich is also 4. Should is not be a tie then? And the rules on page 17 says that when it's a tie in a 2 player game nobody gets any points. Played it yesterday for the first time and enjoyed it. Happy gaming everybody ^^
Hey, I from the rules I gathered that control points are awarded a bit different. In other words, a decoration is worth the same "control" points as a card. So, that's why it is not a tie. 2 cards(flags) = 2 control point 1 card(flag) + 2 decor= 3 control points
@@JeanDubuc This is incorrect. Each section is worth 2 points while each decoration is worth 1. Paul (1 section and 2 decorations) = 4 points Ivan (2 sections) = 4points. So the last tower should not have been scored and Paul would have still won but only by 3 points.
@@BodgeAttackYou are wrong! The VALUE of the tower is calculated in a way you pointed out, so 2 points for a section and 1 point for a decoration. But the MAJORITY of the tower is calculated differently: it's 1 point for a section and a decoration each. So Ivan contributed 3 things and Paul contributed 4, therefore Paul had majority.

Played this one solo for the first time today. Thank you, Paul, for having the video available so I could make sure I did it right!
Glad it helped!
Watched the great play through after watching your 2020 top 10 video. You were right about it being in the top 10!
Nice game!

Good playthrough, it was interesting to see how the solo rules played
Definitely just bought this because of you. The Rondelle looks like so much fun
Hope you enjoy it!
great playthrough, great game!

Such a great game, I have this ordered. I wonder what the expansion adds?
I've done a playthrough with it :)
I’ll defo give that a look, thanks Paul.
Great run!!
Reallly like what i see. Think i will give Ivan some red wooden cubes instegs of random respurces
Each of the scoring markers, (both Paul's and Ivan's), should start at 2vp.
Doh! I wrote this comment before it was pointed out to Paul in the video. I'm an impatient dope. ;)

If you can't go back to zero recognition to make the money, why do you with 2?
