On 'Nirvana: The Untold Stories' we take you behind the music to discover what it took for this unlikely trio to define a musical genre. This band doing the score really kills this whole vibe. Anyone down to edit this out?
yeah… i’d rather hear kurt’s music in the background or even music from an artist close to him in the case of copyright, not a nirvana wannabe band -_-
ONCE IN A WHIIIIIIILLLLEEE!!!!!!
I like the Once in a While song. 😐
I can do an edit sometime. This is an abomination.
Lol I 2nd your motion good sir
If I have to hear that theme song one more time, I'm going to join Kurt in Heaven...
I actually really like Earwigs band. They did play it a bit much. ;)
it's terrible
I felt the same way but I’m surprised the first comment was about it 😂
I've heard this "once in a while" crap One two many times.
Sounds like Jimmy Eat World…
I was interested in watching this but couldn’t even make it through that opening song. Is that supposed to be ‘Nirvana-esque’? It’s horrible.
It's fcking awful.
ONCE IN A WHALE 🐳
YES! INDEED I MEANT WHALES!!!
I think it's supposed to drive us to suicidal feelings so we can empathize with kurt...
It really is nauseating.
They played it like 4 more times by the like 20 minute mark. I feel personally disrespected and attacked
What would make documentaries like this better would be to just have a cover band performing the music of the band rather than some unrelated artists in the background.
There's always going to be complaints, I know - but that fucking song was a particularly poor choice.
I agree. Good doc, but the song was insufferable.
Using a cover of a bands song is still a copyright violation.
100% agreed that the song choice is awful though
@@piercemarratto3449 Is it though? Remember those CD's in the 90s from Asia with some cover band playing Guns n Roses (or whoever) songs? They were remarkably close to the original, like they were pretty good. But I always assumed that was for copyright. Sounds the same but technically it's not the OG recording.
The fact that this doesn't have any original Nirvana songs allows me to find new bands that are played throughout the video.
"Once in a while. Once in a wild. Once in a why-ah-hi-ah-hile" --- Kurt Cobain 2001-2023 RIP
finally a documentary here on youtube about the band in full length thanks :)
This would be much better if we only heard that song once in a while. ...Or not at all.
I agree with "not at all". That music was so f'n annoying and distracting during this entire video.
Earwig is a great fucking band, played several shows with those guys.
@@PresenceUponMe even so it did get a little repetitive in this context. I'm sure they're lovely x
ONCE IN A WHILE!!! - Kurt Cobain
🤣 one of his lesser known hits
Once in a while some idiot thinks this is nirvana
Lol
Lmfao. The music is so bad throughout.
LMAOO
this would be so much better with an instrumental soundtrack
This, who tf decided it was a good idea to put some random ass pop punk sounding band as the soundtrack? Was it a band of the directors son or something? The fuck LMAO
Couldn't agree more!
For such a well done documentary you would think they would have noticed in editing the music makes the documentary look cheep like 2 kids and a phone lol you would think after all this work they would of took notice 😀
@@aw2584 did Kurt like them? Interesting!

A doco about Nirvana without Nirvana's music smells like a Beatles doco with no Beatles. I mean, what's the point?
Loved this thank you for posting 🙂
For anyone wondering this documentary came out in 2003. Roughly a year after "You Know You're Right". It is stated by the Kurt Cobain biographer towards the very end of the video.
A thought you know your right was out in 1994 not 2002?
@@Pazuzu82 You Know You’re Right was recorded in 1994, but released in 2002 on the NIRVANA self titled album after a lengthy court battle over the song in the years after Kurt’s death (ua-cam.com/video/Wj-FwL0t_Jg/v-deo.html)
^hell nah, it was stuck in a vault for a long time before they settled the dispute about ownership or royalties or something with Courney and released it. I think it was released as a single for their "best of" kinda album. But im sure it was in the 00s already because it was a huge deal, an unreleased unknown Nirvana song almost 10 years after Cobains death.
It did come out in 2002. Maybe you had the same David Geffin label cass tape with it on the end on side 1 I believe. .....bought in 94-95. But def before the court case and box set. Before 2002. Js

Matt Costa wrote a song: "Savannah, I loved you like my old or never...never ever could make you mine". Of course it's Nirvana. I never listened to Nirvana until this year, 2024. I must say I'm shocked, impressed, but at a loss.

@@465marko nirvana were the band that destroyed the underground music scene. after they exposed "grunge" mainstream there was no underground music scene - the major labels started signing every band that could possibly be the "next nirvana". not nirvana's fault, obviously. but there's no such thing as the "Alternative music masses community" - these are 30 year old records. just enjoy what you enjoy, there's no 'alternative'/mainstream culture anymore - there is no dominant popular culture in the internet era like there was in the 80s and 90s.

I just found out Mark Lanegan died, so I'm sad. Not trying to be a dick.
I like seeing a new documentary about the band, but holy moly is the background music way too loud compared to the voices of the people talking...

P.s. kill the background music.🤐
Could do without the background music & photograph sounds.
After reading all these comments, i dont think ill watch this because of the song. Ive only heard 20 seconds of it and dont want to keep hearing it.
What band played the song at the beginning and what's the name of the song?
All in All pretty good documentary. Cool that his old friends that u never hear about finally got a bit of spotlight👍
I've always kinda felt bad for Christ. Everyone is always like, "Kurt was such a genius song writer!" and, "Dave is a musical genius!" and then there's Christ. Like, "yep, that's Christ alright. He's... tall? I guess. Idk."

a lot of this b roll is pretty old. that aberdeen sign says "come as you are" since 2005. bet the cobain grandfather has passed by now.
Leland Cobain did pass away.
How did Kurt buy that first house?
Selling drugs
56:52 Tell me that's not the pot calling the kettle black....
This is fantastic stuff. I do agree that yes, Kurt Cobain had a lot of great songs left in him. Had he lived, Kurt would be a collaborator of what is now Foo Fighters, and eventually would have reformed Nirvana for a comeback album.
Actually it is said his songbook was empty, material on in utero dates back to 1990, he wanted to make some acoustic thing with stipe or maybe with Lanegan, to get fresh ideas to his songbook. But as an artist he was empty at the day he died, suicide letter was actually letter or draft of a letter for fans for breaking up nirvana. But he was in such a force, it was very hard to break one of the biggest bands of the world at tthat point. So he died as junkie, who was artistically empty and lost.
@@deadfu2611 So do you read minds often?
Kurt wanted his anonymity back
I think he got it.
Everything lined up too good
More I look at his death more I'm convinced he faked his death. No way he threw away what he had with suicide. No way he let someone he didn't absolutely trust close enough to him to kill him.

Once in a while
Seven minutes in and I’m listening to some people telling me that Nirvana was great, with some random music in the background and annoying sfx.
It's been decades of really not understanding why he would do such a thing and after 30 years of information and documentarys I think I finally understand its a very simple reason he played music to escape from his sadness it was freedom from his emotions and when he became a rock star his music became a trap it trapped him in a deep sadness with no way to escape his only freedom music turned into a prison and his only way out he thought was death for me that makes the most sense as a musician singer song writer
I agree also as a singer songwriter..
Elliott Smith said sort of similar things in lyrics and interviews. I always thought he was like Kurt would of became. It's tragic, a gap of about 6 months, they could of been friends. And that would have make some amazing music.
He was a weak addict. Strong people dabble then quit drugs.
@@matrimoniocivil I disagree I was a addict it years to recover and as strong as they come I was a very functional addict but addicted none the less I think his drug problem was for the same reasons he needed to escape his sadness and it worked at first but just like fame it became a trap he never tried quit ever ounce his rehab was forced I think actually know he had a death wish that's why he just kept using why quit when he wanted to die anyway
@@matrimoniocivil when you get off your soap box try to have some compassion for addicts and gratitude that it isn't you because it could be. Aside from all the years of psych proving you wrong, you don't know peoples upbringing and situation and how that shapes you as an adult. Go read some Gabor Mate and educate yourself. Being an addict doesn't make you wear and not being one doesn't make you strong just because. Usually if a person's life circumstances improve they do outgrow addiction, but not always.

I truly believe people should watch the documentary about the private investigator Courtney hired. Let me say he didn’t kill himself, it was proven the gun couldn’t of landed the way it did, the amount of drugs wouldn’t of even made him alert for more then 30 seconds, also her music sucked that was her meal ticket, he was filing for divorce and guess who got all his money white trash Courtney like 27 million( something high like that amount) also the note left the writing didn’t match. Courtney went through it all then went into her daughter’s money. The investigator did a awesome job breaking everything down and I highly suggest everyone watch it. It’s a shame he isn’t here.
