Calisthenics and Running make you Mentally tough. Pushing pass the point in which you want to stop is discipline. Its a difference between having knowledge thats based on science rather than experience. I don't care what google says.
Roadwork trains you both physically and mentally, if your a runner and your out on a 5mile run down a trail or at night running it's just you alone with your thoughts, as your will is getting tested and your body wants to quit but it's just you and nature out running and thinking and you learn new things about yourself, a lot of times people are doing this as they run subconsciously, but you are straightening you mind body and soul when your Out doing road work, if that makes sense? it's a lot different than just running on a treadmill and it's kinda like a natural high, like rocky 4 he trained out in the mountains while drago trained in the gym.
That intense training routine that Floyd does (having another training session at 2am while opponent is sleeping) is probably true, but most likely NOT everyday. He probably takes an entire next day off from training. Rest is extremely important so his Rest-to-Training ratio is probably higher since he entered his late 30's. Something Pacquiao learned late when he "lost" to Horn. He was like 38, training like he was still in his late 20's. Then Pacquiao rested more often during training camp for Matthysse, and look how great he looked. That Pacquiao would have demolished Horn in that 9th round without much struggle.
@@louduva9849 Irrelevant. Almost all top elite athletes are most likely on some kind of PEDs. It's part of the game. You can take all the steroids you want - but you still gotta do the lifting.
@@louduva9849 you still have to rest and train on peds. Rest is more important because it's easier to overtrain on PEDs because of the power output and prolonged ability to push per session.
This guy is a genius I always noticed this playing basketball. Coaches running the shit out of you and after your not even close to explosive. Running has always killed fast twitch it’s science.
A combination of traditional road work and HIIT is preferable. Running some extra miles prevents you from gassing out if you go the distance and high interval circuits prepares you for what actually happens in the ring. Doing both every other day is gonna provide the fighter with all the cardiovascular weapons he needs.
Roadwork is mental training! ”You can map out a fight plan or a life plan, but when the action starts, it may not go the way you planned, and you're down to your reflexes - that means your [preparation:]. That's where your roadwork shows. If you cheated on that in the dark of the morning, well, you're going to get found out now, under the bright lights.”- smokin joe Frazier
Joe would know because he fought the king of the roadwork, Ali. Don't know if it was the stamina that produced the mental or vice versa, but we all knew Ali wasn't going to knock you out early as he aged. But he would take you deep, job your eye closed, and then pile up points because you couldn't see. By every thing that is right, Ernie Shavers should have knock Ali out ten times. With 10 seconds to go in Round 15, Ernie Shavers would fighting just to stay on his feet and this was against an Ali that was well passed his prime.
He says this but look at fights from the 80s to today. The fighters in the 80s were pushing paces that todays fighters couldn’t match with all their science.
@@SuperCrazyEstonian Yeah i said in a previous post cardio is not that important in boxing, you can get all the fitness in hard sparring and hard bag work, strength and conditioning and road work is over rated.
I used to jog 3-5 miles every night at a pretty solid pace, 8-9 minutes a mile and I would completely gas half way through explosive mitt drills. Conte is right on the money, boxing is a sport were you explode at fractions of seconds, therefor you need fast twitch muscle fibers that can recharge themselves instantly.
I gotta I agree with Mr. Conte here. Everything we know about boxing training has been passed down for years... it’s Bro science. Some of it might be right but a lot has been changed. So I think it’s important to keep an open mind. I believe road work is useful but not nearly as important as speed interval training. Once or twice a week running 3-5 miles is what I would do. I would follow his protocol heavy lifting, grunt work in the AM and sport later in the day. It’s worth a shot.
@@eclisis5080 got all the way to nationals my dude. Won blue golds, golden gloves big tournaments like that. Never won a pro championship sadly. How about you?
He's right, endurance is sport oriented. You want big ass legs that don't get tired? ATG back squats or Olympic weightlifting. That way youre explosive and have big strong ass legs.
boxing is 12 rounds that's why you do roadwork, but when you are on the juice I see why you would do his way, this guy isn't even in shape he clearly is a drug cheat enabler
So fucking predictable these comments - dummies mentioning Victor Conte's past (which he owns up to. It is called past for a reason) while completely ignoring the PROVEN SCIENCE (and not drugs) he now uses to help his athletes.
That’s why ggg is deteriorating because he trained at high Altitude most of his career plus the 400 plus amateur fights wear and tear doubled on his body and plus he looks weight drained to make 160 add all that he is a faded fighter ever notice how he breaths hard during fights I think 168 is a better weight for him
This is all well and good but remember the importance of fighting IQ. Your explosiveness aint gunna mean shit if youre exploding into my counters. Hes talking about gladiator style fighting. Two guys exploding forward. A real scientist can come in and out of range without telling you thats what hes doing. And punch technique isnt explosive, its implosive. Lunging forward and reaching is explosiveness and puts you out of position and off balance. Sitting down and bracing/ rotating your core is implosive (think of figure skaters rotating, at the fastest point arms are drawn in to give more solidity) and makes your shots solid. Also its been proven that night owls tend to have a higher IQ. Geniuses tend to stay up all night. People dont investigate down rabbit holes in broad daylight. Its just the way it is. Plenty of fighters look like bodybuilders and are well oiled machines that train scientifically and get knocked the fuck out. Aj vs Ruiz. Boxing is 90% mental. And if you choose to cheat (like this man helps people do) your character and thought processes are weaker then the man who brings it upon himself to figure out how to beat these juiced fighters with boxing knowledge. Shout out to all the real artists out there.
It worked for floyd because he was dedicated too boxing and his mind and boxing iq is on another level That’s what makes the greats He also said it helps endurance in boxing that’s everything once you have skill and power
Its actually counter productive for prolonged cardio sessions and counter productive to perform intense strength and conditioning work during boxing sessions, too much stress creates a hinderence in both energy and brain function.
I say this humbly out of love But what Conte is saying - Is nothing new - it just good Sport Science - this science is out for years - or known amongst good practitioners Unfortunately- Good Sport Science has not been truly adopted in the boxing community just yet - but it is coming Dr. Duncan French another great resource - He is VP of UFC institute I am even thinking of showcasing - what boxers can do to test, monitor and create the optimal adaptations to high performance

Mikey didn’t gas out against Spence, he just couldn’t do anything to errol, couldn’t hurt him or outbox him period
