Right after I saw this movie, I was hoping someone would break down and analyse the way it uses motifs, being a musician. This is exactly what I was looking for and I'm honestly surprised it doesn't have more attention. Great work!
+Mango Legs this takes a fair amount of work, but if there is interest I would love to do more of them. I just haven't seen a demand for it yet.
I was looking if someone made this video because I love the use of it here. I'm no musical fan, but I'm a big fan of leitmotifs in soundtrack, I also like it a lot when it can somehow be used in the movie itself.
With this we have motifs working on 3 levels. In the soundtrack for the movie, in the musical numbers, in the actual narrative of the movie. I love it.
...and of course you manage to pick up more than I did.
You give me too much credit. I worked on this for months, deleting everything I had the night before each day. I had to learn perfect was the enemy of good enough, which is a lesson worth the stress. Even if I never want to watch this video again.

"I had to learn perfect was the enemy of good enough" Luckily we have Fletcher to teach us that.
But I appreciate you took the effort and despite having noticed these motifs myself it's nice to see it more elaborated.
in boulder city when he's in the car, it starts out with the Audition but transitions over to Someone in the Crowd (the musical part where Mia exits the bathroom and the people are moving slow-mo in the back)..we expect to end the Audition Theme on the end note, but it ends in the chord of the "Someone in the Crowd" scene and further notes that belong to the scale in the song, but then the scale goes back down and the notes kind of fade out into nothingness.
Thank you for the grammar lesson. More!
I'm pretty sure the engagement party is Someone In the Crowd
It's also used in the underscore for when we meet Sebastian and his sister in his apartment
just yes. I love this. I know some other music UA-camrs hate this movie but this movie just hits me so hard!
city of stars is also played in sebastian's car at the beginning of the summer montage, but its kinda hard to hear bc it fades in and out as he drives away
I like how you analize it, so thank you so much for that! But it was difficult to hear the music because the level of the music is too low, even when you stop talking. I would give more more space without talking so we can hear in the music what you are have just explained or about to explain, and increse the level of the music when you don't talk. Thanks again.
This movie was a masterpiece, thanks for this
Amazing video-analysis, hope more people can enjoy your work!
Excellent job! Finally watched the film and hoped someone had done this
BTW, I took a course in college on introduction to opera that focused on three (Traviata, Marriage, Otello) That was my introduction to these concepts, using the actual scores.
So, that's my point of comparison for your work.
Again, great job!!!!! Didn't disappoint.
Sebastian clocked mia, "You're an actress, what are you talking about!?" 😂
I LOVE THIS VIDEO
très fort👍
This is great!
