La La Land Fun Facts! 1. Both sunsets in City of Stars 1.0 and A Lovely Night are real (confirmed by both Damien & Justin, in the commentary) 2. The woman who enters the coffee shop, is Damien Chazelle's wife. 3. Not only do Mia & Sebastian's worlds/roles switch, but Mia's world gets more and more "modern", as the film goes on, and the colour starts to leave her life. 4. The camera work that bounces between Mia dancing, and Sebastian playing the piano is done IN camera. Damien had the camera man hold a rig, so he could bounce the camera back and forth, with just a tap on the camera man's shoulder, by Damien. 5. This was going to be Damien Chazelle's FIRST movie, but no one wanted him, or take the job, telling him it "wasn't good", hence why he made Whiplash, a smaller project. 6. Another Day of Sun was real, they ACTUALLY shut down a real highway, in LA, to film that whole segment. 7. That is 100% Ryan Gosling playing the piano. He trained for three months, to get it right. 8. Mia's audition in the beginning, is based off a real audition, that Ryan Gosling had.
I just made a small video about Seb & Mia, my favourite couple in the movies and one of my favourite movies ever. As a movier lover, it would mean the world if you would support the channel by liking the video and/or the channel. Thank you so much 😊 ua-cam.com/video/5GY6DM76fYk/v-deo.html
When you said “it meant something to me I couldn’t explain to people”, that’s exactly how I feel about this movie. It got me into film and showed me what a movie could make feel

I think a really underrated scene for me in the film was the scene where Seb walks past the photo of Mia on the wall on his way to his jazz club. It symbolises so much. He didn't even take a second to glance at the photo of her indicating that he had very likely seen it many times and yet had moved on from the relationship as he continues to walk by the photo which would've certainly made him look in the past, however, he continues walking. It's such a simple shot yet it tells the audience so much about how time has passed and how he has moved on, ultimately making his interaction with Mia in the final scenes more impactful.
Nice observation. I loved La La Land, but I thought the break up and the passage of time was the weakest part of the story. It was way too abrupt, and not convincing. It's like this: Sebastian: Go get the part.... Mia: Hey, I got the part. Thanks for helping me. Sebastian: Nice! Let's break up. Mia: Great idea! It seemed really out of character for them to end their relationship in what literally felt like a minute after the audition. Then the 5 years that pass... when you are invested in the characters so much, to not show how they got where they did, is robbing the viewers of what they deserve. The billboard shows what happened, but now how they got there. On the other hand, if they did go into that the movie would lose its brevity and its message. I'm willing to forgive what I believe is a serious weak point in the movie, because the rest of it was just awesome.
@@gtd9536 It's an interesting point for sure. The five-year time jump was something I wasn't expecting at all yet it worked really well in my opinion. Perhaps their break-up could've been foreshadowed more and fleshed out a bit but I think it doesn't harm the movie at all. In fact, we see Seb struggling to maintain his fast-moving career in the band whilst still trying to show up for Mia's performance (which he missed) causing problems in their relationship. I don't think the separation was the main focus of the story and that's why it may have felt rushed for you.

La La Land is a modern day classic. I walked in the cinema with no expectations but found myself captivated from the opening shot to the closing credits. The characters, the colors, the setting, and that ending... Great video!

La La Land is a phenomenal experience, of a film. It's like a once-in-a-lifetime movie, I honestly don't think we'll ever get another one like it. La La Land is a treasure.
I balled my eyes out. I’m still torn up about the ending. Every time I watch the ending or watch videos about the ending I cry. It’s such a powerful ending

I'm LITERALLY in love with this movie. I've never seen such a film in my ENTIRE life. And I do agree with you on MANY things you said. The direction, colors, cinematography and most importantly the STORY is SO rich and SO beautiful. Love this video so much
I never cry at movies. Not by choice I just simply dont feel a strong enough connection to the characters to truly sympathize. These movies I watch are good movies too, masterpiece levels of film that have recieved critical acclaim... but La La Land... it did it. I don't know how it inflicted as much emotion where others had failed but this movie is truly a special one
It made me smile because I understood how perfect the ending was while everyone around me thought it was a horribly sad ending. This is the most real life ending I’ve seen in a “romance” movie. All my relationships ended exactly like this except for 1, obviously with my wife.
Great video. This movie is brilliant. Even better than Whiplash. The last ten minutes of the film are a film in itself. It's so beautiful, sad, joyful and depressing. It gives you everything you could've wanted, but still lets you down in the end, in a good way. Bittersweet, but mostly sweet.
Seriously!??! I can't believe I'm still getting so many encouraging comments like yours! You have no idea how much this means to me, thank you so much!
I think that people take the movie wrongly when they say "right person, wrong time". In the movie you can see how they help eachother and empower themselves, so then they acomplish their life goals thanks to the other. In my opinion, i think that is the right person just there's no way that the lives they want coexisted wile being together. They just were meant to be for eachother for that amount of time, so then accomplish everything they wanted to. Sometimes couples are meant for eachother but not forever.

( *_im sorry this was so long but when i first watched it i was 12, and i thought it was just an alternate ending. looking back at it at 16, i understand so much more_* ) the epilogue was especially *chefs kiss🤌: -starts with mia wearing a navy blue dress, same _color_ as when they first officially met -however seb is wearing a brown suit while when they first met it was black. -this shows how it's about things seb would hv changed, if seb has chosen mia over jazz, love over his dreams -him playing the piano is his way of telling that story to mia -the epilogue starts with seb kissing mia instead of pushing past her -originally he was angry with his boss for firing him, which is why he pushed past her, showing that jazz took more priority than mia -but now he kisses her, showing she's more important -we then see them running around a different house, possibly seb's house if he was financially stable -then, it's him easily rejecting keith -it shows if money wasn't the problem, he wld've easily chosen mia over a push in his career, as at first the only reason he chose to take the job was because of mia's comment about money. it's always about mia. -then u see him choosing to come to mia's show, and how even with the room full of ppl, all she sees & cares about is seb -then seb drags mia into a hollywood studio, where mia get's dragged away by the director -this shows how seb led her back to her passion for her dream, but felt as though she was taken away by the casting director, but this time he follows along -mia was also wearing a purple halter dress, the same style of dress when she first officially met, signifying a new chpt of her life -mia passes the audience, and seb follows her to paris -as we can see nothing about mia's route to her dream has changed, it's always seb changing -seb of course still has passion for jazz, working at a jazz club in paris while mia films -then we see mia's wedding. -once again we see the same style dress technique, but this time mia wears the same style of dress as she wore to the planatarium, except white and longer (to symbolise the wedding) -when she wore that style to the planetarium was when she chose seb (over greg), and when their relationship as a couple started -similarly, in the epilogue it's use dto symbolise how she chose seb (said yes marriage), and when a new chapter of their relationship started -they dance again, just like in the planetarium in the stars -in order to differentiate the "what seb cld hv done" from the "what their future wld've looked like", they make it such that seb & mia "r watching the story of their future like a movie" -it obviously ends with them going to a jazz club - but it's not sebs. they pan around the entire club as if the say to sebastian, "u cld have all of this", and then zooms in on them kissing as if to say "or, u cld hv mia" -then, it goes back into reality to say "but u don't. u don't hv mia anymore" -seb then chooses not to end the song the way it should, because it was mia & his song. and their love story didnt end the way it cld hv. -and the last nod to each other, the nod that says so much in just one movement, the nod that says "we didn't get the ending we deserve as 2, but look at us now. we achieved our dreams. and sometimes, that's okay" it was the nod of forgiveness, of how the "what-ifs" didn't happen, but what they got in the end.
oh my gosh i’m almost 16 and watched this when i had just turned 11. i had the pleasure of watching it in theatres and it has always stuck with me. it continues to inspire me as i move on and grow up, trying to chase my dreams.
La La Land is my favorite movie. I just can’t describe in words how amazingly perfect this movie is, it really means a lot for me. When I watched for the first time, this film LITERALLY changed my life. I have seen it 100+ times, I memorized all the dialogue, and every time I see it I find out new things, and that video is an example. I have like a thousand perspectives about this movie: My initial perspective, and then, after rewatching so many times that perspective became so complex. Then, I talked with a lot of friends and we discussed about it and they shared me their personal perspectives and it was like “Oh my God, how didn’t I notice that?” And you know, it enriched my perspective in many many ways, then my family members shared me their perspective, and since 2016 that perspective about the movie has grown so much. Then I watched a lot of analysis videos, and all of them shared me something, and just after 3 years, after believing that I had understood everything about the movie, this video appears. Thank you, now my perspective about the movie is even more interesting. And that’s on why La La Land is my favorite movie. You can rewatch it as many times as you want, but you will always find something new, and also everybody has its own interpretation, so you can discuss and share to enrich one same idea. Absolutely masterpiece.
@@santiace3695 Seriously I can't tell you how much I smiled while reading this. You put it perfectly what it means to so many people in just a paragraph, and what it took me to do in twenty minutes. I'm honestly just shocked how many other people feel the same way about this film, and it's so nice to know we can all love it together :)
La La Land is my favorite film too and it’s how I just found this channel. I feel like one day your gonna be a much bigger channel because your videos are so well made.
I WAS NOT READY FOR THIS ANALYSIS ! I had chills seeing this because La La Land is my favorie movie for the same reasons, the fact that it's moves you in a way you can't describe, but simply admire. The fact that despite it's simplicity this movie hits deep for every person for different reasons is a prove that is a Masterpeice !
You described my experience watching La La Land perfectly. Ever since I saw it for the first time it’s been my favorite movie of all time. And you’re absolutely right that it’s hard to describe to people why I love it so much, but I can honestly saw that very few movies have had as much of an impact on my life that La La Land has. Do you plan on seeing Babylon?
This was a film I went to see with extreme prejudice because I hadn't seen Whiplash, didn't know who Chazelle was and my gf just wanted to see the new romantic musical. After the first 15 minutes of the film I was almost frightened of how much I liked it. By the end of it, I had to swallow some tears. Since then I've watched it several times. It's a genuine masterpiece, couldn't be happier that I was almost force to go watch it.
I went into the theater not knowing what to expect. I liked it after my first watch, loved it after my second watch, and was my favorite movie of all time after my third watch. So many things about it changed the way i watch movies. This is the movie i compare other movies too. “That movie was good but was it La La Land good?” The answer is and will always be no.
La la land became my favourite movie after like 5 watches, because the more I watched it the more I understood what was happening and what this movie truly is, I own like over 300 dvds and to this day no movie has changed me more than this, and I couldn’t agree with what you said in this video more
My introduction to this movie was through its music. I knew the story inside out without ever knowing the plot of it for about a month (before sitting down and watching it), and at that point I had already fallen in love with it. I've now seen it 26 times, and the photo/videographer in me loves it just as much as the kid who loved the music. This movie is a masterpiece
I don’t think I could describe a better feeling than the one I had when watching this film for the first time without any previous expectations over what I was about to watch
Yea, took me way too long to see it. All because I hate musicals. Never gave it a chance until I saw it on a bunch of people’s top 10. So glad I finally watched it. It’s in my top 10 too now.
Perhaps I missed a bit but I believe at the end Mia is an Actor when her dream was really to be writer also? She gets the perfect role where it is written around her but it seems to imply at the end that she is a successful actress and that she would be performing as an actress does
This is easily my favourite film of all time. When doing performing arts I directed a stage adaptation of this film for two nights to standing ovation every time. Its my dream to put it back on stage with a big budget. But also to make a film as good as this
My favourite movies of all time are four the three movies of the how to train your dragon saga and tick tick boom like you said you can describe it but only you can understand it, and la la land for me is close second a movie fantastic and that is breathtaking in every shot with a music that's outstanding is a modern classic and masterpiece
I love la la land so much I can't even explain it. the fact that they both believe in each others dream more than their own and how they will always love and support each other even if they're not together. its the definition of bittersweet.
Wow, this is an AMAZING video. Honestly you put my exact thoughts into words. The first time I watched this movie I was 14 and I watched it at the movie theatre with my parents. My parents aren’t big fans of musicals and tbh I also wasn’t at the time and we were not aware that this was one. When the movie ended I was left mind blown and speechless. I had never seen anything like it before. The visuals. The music. This movie started my obsession and love for films. Earlier today I watched it for the 5th time and just like the previous times I cried like a baby and was so overwhelmed by the beauty of it. I really enjoyed your video, and I just wanted to share a little of my feelings towards the movie :) keep up the good work!
Thank you so much, Samantha! I really really appreciate it! And yeah, I totally get where you're coming from (although what I wouldn't give to actually get the chance to see it in a theatre)
Like I feel crazy that La la land is my favorite movie and I feel that nobody cares about this ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE and it’s amazing seeing a video that is literally probably if I had thought about for a whole word for word how I feel about this beautiful movie it is AMAZING
"How do you explain something that means something different to yourself than it means to anyone else?" You nailed it man! I saw this movie on the way home from a business trip on a plane. I still remember the car ride home telling my wife ,while being in an incredibly emotionally vulnerable state, how we needed to watch this movie as soon as we got home. I couldn't explain what the movie did to me. It like created this hurricane of emotions within me at the end. It communicated such strong themes that we all experience in life such as love, heartbreak, insecurities, trade offs, chasing our dreams, dreams meeting reality and so much more. I listen to the soundtrack almost daily! My top 3 movies are La La Land, Casablanca and inception. Great job with this analysis!
This movie still hits me harder than any movie I've ever seen. When seb is explaining to Mia why jazz is so great, is literally me explaining why this movie is so great
this movie made me feel things i never have before, or at least never felt it like that. Which makes it so hard for me to explain or talk about why i love it so much.
Excellent choice for a favorite movie. Music is extremely powerful and can conjure up a ton of emotions. I notice that most of the movies that I love the most and rewatch over and over again are musicals like The Sound of Music, Frozen, Grease, La La Land, etc.
I was bored one day and saw the movie poster outside the theatre, I had watched drive recently and thought to give it a shot... That piano bit hits me in the feels everytime. It is my favorite movie now.
This blew me away. So much insight from one short video, and you kept it all so entertaining that I did not look away from the screen--not even once. I am excited to see where you go in life with all of this talent and insight.
Great analysis - I know so many people who watched this movie and said "it's overrated" because "it's just a love story" or something along those lines. This video lays out why it's so much more than that
That's so thoughtful of you to say my goodness. I can't believe people are still getting stuff out of this so it absolutely means the world to me that you commented that :)
It's my favorite movie too! We can call this movie a perfect artistic movie, every art performed was just perfect. Mind-blowing. Must watch! (When mia said I'll never stop loving you and ends up marrying other man..that really hurts🥺)
This is such a good review. You really get into the subtler parts of the movie's presentation rather than the obvious, surface level route, and I really like that. You've really convinced me to think much more highly of la la land. Thank you.
I was like you: first watch and thought it was alright. Wasn’t bad but I didn’t understand the hype it initially garnered. In 2016, my favorite film of that year was Manchester By the Sea (really beautiful film I recommend watching) and thought it was overshadowed by a simple generic story like La La Land. Then I gave it another watch a few months ago and I realized just how incredible the attention to detail is in the film. It’s inspiring. Films with simple stories and complex production tend to be the best films of our time. Simply put, film isn’t just about the story but also how you tell it.
Seeing two people fall in love and be the spring boards for one another and then not have hard feelings in the end despite things not working out is very nice and can be a real message.
okay, firstly can I just say how mind-blowingly you have analyzed this entire movie. I'm literally so speechless and believe me when I saw I cried again, in fact even more when I watched the film because you portrayed it so beautifully. Hats off to you mate!!!
Oh my goodness this is literally the sweetest comment ever!!!! I'm so happy I was able to capture the emotions that I felt while watching this. Nothing makes me more happy then to add to a person's enjoyment of a film so thank you so much for telling me so :)
was lucky enough to see this film with a full orchestra conducted by justin hurwitz himself. life changing experience. i will never forget how i felt being there.
Yess! thank you for this video! Everyone asks me why I love la la land so much and a can never express to them why. Everything you said in this video is why! The music, the cinematography, the motifs, the emotion and the secret codes behind the story which give it meaning! Just simply amazing and I love it! 👏 I cried at the end when the two characters weren't together anymore because I felt so emotionally connected to them and they had been through so much together!
Gosh such a convincing argument and I totally agree way to many people just see the surface of this movie but there is so much more, and definitely one of my favourites!
La La Land is one of my top 5 fav movies but I never really knew how to tell the reason why it is, honestly you have summed up why I love this movie so much
With the exception of the sensation of spinning at the very end (which will take a few hours to recover from), this was an exquisitely perfect synopsis. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
I'm not a film junkie by any means, but La La Land is the only film I'd say is perfect. La La Land is the film that every filmmaker needs to reference when telling their story. Every element of La La Land is used to tell the story: color, camerawork, editing, music, and of course, superb acting from Gosling and Stone. This film not only uses all of those elements, but blends them all together perfectly to tell the story. I'm not even sure what Chazelle's vision was when he conceived this film, because there are so many things I've taken away from it. I've watched La La Land many times and watched lots of UA-cam videos about it, yet I am still constantly learning new things whenever I study it. It never gets old or boring. I just wish I saw it when it came out. It took me a while to get around to see La La Land because musicals aren't really my thing, but this movie is so much more than just your typical musical. It's so beautiful in so many ways
I was stunned by this movie. I saw it 7 times in the theater, just couldn’t get enough. I loved Mia’s audition at the end. When she started singing I couldn’t breathe. Thank you for a perfect examination of this masterpiece. Loved watching your video.
Fantastic video essay! I agree with you that there’s something undefinable about this film that lingers with me. It hits me in so many different ways each time
I remember unlocking many feelings when I first saw this movie, it opened my eyes and really made me digest the things I saw and heard, this whole video put everything I love about it in perfect words
Wow, thank you so much. It had close to the exact same impact on me but it only took me a rewatch to realize that. Thanks again for watching the video, really means the world to me :)
Read the script to this film earlier today, it hurts almost just as much. Sebastian wanted a change for Mia , a better home , a stable job. After reading the script and a couple rewatches, I really get his point of view.
FINALLY someone who sums it up so perfectly and says everything I didn't have the words for! This is a MASTERPIECE in my eyes. I am writing a paper about this movie and your video helped me so much. THANK YOU!!!🙏🏼
Thank you for this video. La La Land is a true masterpiece. The emotions I felt when I first saw this film were truly amazing, I never knew I could feel like I did when the credits rolled. In my opinion it is the only movie I can definitively rate a 10 out of 10.
I remember first watching this movie a long time ago and not really connecting to it too much. Then I came across your video and watch half way through and was like “hey, this guy might be in to something” So I watched the movie again, and again, and again. The second time I watched was cause I was searching for what you were trying to say, and then the other watches was because I started to fall in love with the movie. I came back to your video and now I can understand and appreciate such a beautiful film. This film will always be in my heart and be one of my top favorites. Thank you for opening my eyes to deeper meaning and appreciation for masterpieces.
THANK YOU! I always find myself coming back to this movie and I never tire of rewatching it and it was annoying to just hear the basic critique that it was “overhyped” and “not really that good” when so much attention to detail put into it. Tbh, it’s an underrated movie and I’m glad I’m getting recommended videos now recognizing what good movie it actually is.
Just a little thing I noticed, in the 'A Lovely Night' scene, Mia is initially wearing a yellow dress, red bag and blue heels. Red, Blue and Yellow, the primary colours, possibly signifying the primary stages of their relationship before the gradual loss of colour on Mia's part.
I was thinking about doing a video on La La Land because its also my favorite film and it has a ton to love. But I think you do a good job saying and explaining it better than I could've done. I wouldn't have done it justice. Something I want to add on that I just picked up as watching you video is that La La Land was written before or around the time of Guy and Madeline. This explains a lot of the influence in it with Summer montage and Cincinnati being in it and other stuff added in. (I mean its common knowledge) But nevertheless in Guy and Madeline there was a song/scene called Love in the Fall. The lyrics say "Here I am in the fall, aint no lovin at all" In a sense we see that in La La Land where Mia and Sebs relationship fell apart in the fall. A Very small detail but Chazelle put so many small details that make it a classic. Like the homages to classic films like An American in Paris, Singin in the rain etc. This film is also a perfect Ode to Hollywood.
ok seriously, I love la la land more than words can describe, in a completely subjective way. this movie almost feels like a biography of my life, it just feels so personal to me and i can go on forever on the reasons i love it. this video, it somehow put a movie I've seen 20 times in a new light. i loved this video so much, keep it coming!
Favorite is very different from saying it’s the best movie ever made. To me, a favorite is a film I enjoy seeing again and again, and that brings me joy each time. And LaLa Land delivers that 100 percent. Some truly great films, seeing them once or twice in a lifetime is enough.
There are those rare movies that you watch and finish for the first time, and they end up occupying your mind for days and weeks after. La La Land did that to me. One of my favorite all time movies ever.
great video bro. the editing with the direction text was on point. keep it up. and i am ashamed to admit i cannot listen to sebastians and mias theme without my heart aching.
Oh my goodness YES!!! The fact that you watched and even liked my video essay is insane. But somehow you were also inspired by it??? Dude that's just the best feeling in the world for me. Thank you so much :)
also, the editing & analysis on this video is amazing!! i loved how you perfectly summarised everything i felt watching this movie into words, and the way u ended, just like the movie itself - in a thought provoking-way
HOW the fuck does this video not have a couple hundred thousand views. This is hands down the best video essay I have seen on this movie. I really love your style man and look forward to more great videos from you. To answer your question this is also my favorite film for many of the reasons you of course listed as well as just finding this film at the perfect time in my life. Which after my sixth watch of the movie has now brought me to your channel. Great content man, stick with it!
Seriously dude I was feeling so down today but you just brought it right back up! This is seriously the nicest comment ever, thank you so much! I really hope I'll be able to deliver with videos cause I really did my best with this one. But the next video I'm working on is The Social Network and that's gonna be around the same length as this one so I hope everyone is going to enjoy that! Thanks again Jeff, you da best!
@@onlymoviesilike That's awesome man, I'm glad I can bring a smile to your face. You got a new subscriber for sure and I can't wait to see what you have to say about The Social Network!
this video is just amazing. it managed to put all of the feelings that i have towards this movie into words. i noticed things i never have before and made me appreciate the film even more than i do. this is easily one of the greatest movies of all time. this video is so well made and just so full of clever observations that blew me away. thank you.
Ohhhh my goodness I'm so sorry I didn't see you comment!!! But THANK YOU holy crap!! This movie is too good so I'm glad we share that opinion and that you were able to connect with my thoughts about it :)
Teddy, this is one of the finest essays I've read on any movie. This was already my favorite movie, but you brought to life all the underlying reasons I wasn't even conscious of. Now I'm more in love with this film and the director. You are 100% correct on all your attributes of this film. La La Land is also great because there is not an inch of wasted film. And, there's another reason why this film is so meaningful to me even though not everyone in the world knows about it. La La Land portrays accurately how life is for a struggling actor. I'm so proud of the fact that right before this film was made, I had the great experience of trying to be an actor in Hollywood. I wasn't successful as fully as I would have liked, but just being a part of a classic experience that many people dream of made me feel I was a part of a great era. As such, I'm completely in love with this movie and everything about it. Maybe it was meant to be the only film in history that won Best Picture for 30 seconds since that other film was obviously chosen for political reasons after Fay Dunnaway read the wrong winner card. It doesn't matter. I will never tire of seeing this film because it is just too wonderful for words.
I get filled with pure beauty in my body and in my soul and I only needs to here those five tones of the melody to be back and filled again. That’s Lala Land to me and it’s my all time favorite movie♥️💙♥️Pure beauty!!
Whiplash has been my favourite movie for as long as I can remember but this video here had me reconsider my choice. This is the most inspiring video essay I've seen in a long time, you just earned yourself a subscriber!
The fact that this man made 2 masterpieces in such a short time period at such a young age is incredible. I feel like Babylon could be just as good but he purposely went another direction just to make it different from La La Land. Tried cramming way too much into 1 movie. Would have been much better had those 2 escaped & made a new life for themselves & we got to see that for the last 30 minutes. So much potential, it’s frustrating he didn’t go another route.
"Their last dance has no color because neither chose to chase their dreams". I disagree. The problem is they both *chose* to chase their dreams... rather than love.
I was shocked that this movie went straight to my top 10. Have always hated musicals, but this is so masterfully done that it feels nothing like any other musical I’ve seen. It actually makes me hate all other musicals even more.
LOL. I think this movie did the opposite somewhat for me. If I never watched this movie I would've never given films like "In the Heights" and "Westside Story" a chance, but in all honesty those movies don't come close to La La Land for me even though I liked them.
@@estvescalders6597 I’ll be surprised if I ever end up liking another musical. I’m actually getting the itch to watch it again. I’m on my 9th viewing of Banshees of Inisherin. I’ve only seen La La Land 6x. Still gets better each time. But I’m the type that would rather watch my top 10 movies 10x each rather than my top 50 movies 2x each.
@@JC-li8kk Yeah I'm kind of the same way. I think I've seen La La Land 4-5x, but I'll have to give Banshees of Inisherin a watch as I've never heard of it till now.
@@estvescalders6597 It’s on (HBO) Max right now if you have that. I haven’t even bought it yet lol. It’s been on there a while. Once it leaves I’ll definitely buy it. There is something very comforting about it. The gentle score, the small town island, the constant presence of the grass & ocean, the beautifully saturated colors, the unique characters, the docile animals. It’s an ideal living situation for me. Makes the tragedy of the plot all the more tragic. Perhaps that’s why I enjoy playing it back so much. It would be a grand TV Series.
A well assembled analysis! I so loved this movie, and your notes helped me understand just part of why I enjoyed it so! Thank you! I’m still terribly sad that they don’t end up together though 😢
La La Land Fun Facts!
1. Both sunsets in City of Stars 1.0 and A Lovely Night are real (confirmed by both Damien & Justin, in the commentary)
Not completely the same I think I saw the making of A Lovely Night the sky is different from what we saw in the movie.

It's like this:
Sebastian: Go get the part....

Thank you, man! Means a lot :)
Also, you got to see it at the cinema!? Bruh what I would give for that...

La La Land is a phenomenal experience, of a film. It's like a once-in-a-lifetime movie, I honestly don't think we'll ever get another one like it. La La Land is a treasure.
100% agree 🙌🙌🙌
Am i the only one who cried?
And it was mia and Sebastian's theme fault
Nope not the only one XD
Crying is an understatement to what I felt after watching La La Land
I balled my eyes out. I’m still torn up about the ending. Every time I watch the ending or watch videos about the ending I cry. It’s such a powerful ending

I'm LITERALLY in love with this movie. I've never seen such a film in my ENTIRE life. And I do agree with you on MANY things you said. The direction, colors, cinematography and most importantly the STORY is SO rich and SO beautiful. Love this video so much
Thank you so much man, and yes this is such an amazing film. I've had it as my favourite for quite a while now and it still holds up!
I never cry at movies. Not by choice I just simply dont feel a strong enough connection to the characters to truly sympathize. These movies I watch are good movies too, masterpiece levels of film that have recieved critical acclaim... but La La Land... it did it. I don't know how it inflicted as much emotion where others had failed but this movie is truly a special one
man I wish it had this impact on me
It made me smile because I understood how perfect the ending was while everyone around me thought it was a horribly sad ending.
I couldn't agree more!!! Thank you so much for the sub :)
The editing in this video is fantastic. How is no one talking about that? Amazing video, amazing movie.

La La Land is a masterpiece
( *_im sorry this was so long but when i first watched it i was 12, and i thought it was just an alternate ending. looking back at it at 16, i understand so much more_* )
the epilogue was especially *chefs kiss🤌:
-starts with mia wearing a navy blue dress, same _color_ as when they first officially met
-however seb is wearing a brown suit while when they first met it was black.
-this shows how it's about things seb would hv changed, if seb has chosen mia over jazz, love over his dreams
-him playing the piano is his way of telling that story to mia
-the epilogue starts with seb kissing mia instead of pushing past her
-originally he was angry with his boss for firing him, which is why he pushed past her, showing that jazz took more priority than mia
-but now he kisses her, showing she's more important
-we then see them running around a different house, possibly seb's house if he was financially stable
-then, it's him easily rejecting keith
-it shows if money wasn't the problem, he wld've easily chosen mia over a push in his career, as at first the only reason he chose to take the job was because of mia's comment about money. it's always about mia.
-then u see him choosing to come to mia's show, and how even with the room full of ppl, all she sees & cares about is seb
-then seb drags mia into a hollywood studio, where mia get's dragged away by the director
-this shows how seb led her back to her passion for her dream, but felt as though she was taken away by the casting director, but this time he follows along
-mia was also wearing a purple halter dress, the same style of dress when she first officially met, signifying a new chpt of her life
-mia passes the audience, and seb follows her to paris
-as we can see nothing about mia's route to her dream has changed, it's always seb changing
-seb of course still has passion for jazz, working at a jazz club in paris while mia films
-then we see mia's wedding.
-once again we see the same style dress technique, but this time mia wears the same style of dress as she wore to the planatarium, except white and longer (to symbolise the wedding)
-when she wore that style to the planetarium was when she chose seb (over greg), and when their relationship as a couple started
-similarly, in the epilogue it's use dto symbolise how she chose seb (said yes marriage), and when a new chapter of their relationship started
-they dance again, just like in the planetarium in the stars
-in order to differentiate the "what seb cld hv done" from the "what their future wld've looked like", they make it such that seb & mia "r watching the story of their future like a movie"
-it obviously ends with them going to a jazz club - but it's not sebs. they pan around the entire club as if the say to sebastian, "u cld have all of this", and then zooms in on them kissing as if to say "or, u cld hv mia"
-then, it goes back into reality to say "but u don't. u don't hv mia anymore"
-seb then chooses not to end the song the way it should, because it was mia & his song. and their love story didnt end the way it cld hv.
This is also how I see the ending! Another great video has been done about it too!
All-time favorite movie. :D
Here is the video about La La Land's ending by the way. Check it out!
oh my gosh i’m almost 16 and watched this when i had just turned 11. i had the pleasure of watching it in theatres and it has always stuck with me. it continues to inspire me as i move on and grow up, trying to chase my dreams.
Even with every interview I have watched about the movie, I find out new things I didn’t know.
That’s the magic of La La Land
@@santiace3695 Seriously I can't tell you how much I smiled while reading this. You put it perfectly what it means to so many people in just a paragraph, and what it took me to do in twenty minutes. I'm honestly just shocked how many other people feel the same way about this film, and it's so nice to know we can all love it together :)
Agreed! It's a masterpiece!
La La Land is my favorite film too and it’s how I just found this channel. I feel like one day your gonna be a much bigger channel because your videos are so well made.
Wow!!! Thank you so much. I'll try and keep up the work best I can :)
What I wouldn't give to see it in theatres, it's truly special.
0:42 INCEPTIONS BLOWS - it does. La La Land is great! Thank you!
La la land became my favourite movie after like 5 watches, because the more I watched it the more I understood what was happening and what this movie truly is, I own like over 300 dvds and to this day no movie has changed me more than this, and I couldn’t agree with what you said in this video more
🙌🙌🙌 So good!!!!
🙌🙌🙌 so amazing!!!
I don’t think I could describe a better feeling than the one I had when watching this film for the first time without any previous expectations over what I was about to watch
Haven’t seen this movie but this analysis convinced me to see and digest it!
Do you like it?
Yea, took me way too long to see it. All because I hate musicals. Never gave it a chance until I saw it on a bunch of people’s top 10. So glad I finally watched it. It’s in my top 10 too now.
Perhaps I missed a bit but I believe at the end Mia is an Actor when her dream was really to be writer also? She gets the perfect role where it is written around her but it seems to imply at the end that she is a successful actress and that she would be performing as an actress does
The direction of camera flow, that's a really delicate but intricate detail, well crafted into the movie.
This is easily my favourite film of all time. When doing performing arts I directed a stage adaptation of this film for two nights to standing ovation every time. Its my dream to put it back on stage with a big budget. But also to make a film as good as this
i always try to explain la la land to people who just don’t get it YOU EXPLAINED EVERYTHING SO PERFECTLY THANK YOU
Hahahaha thank you so much! I'm so glad I could do it justice in the smallest of ways
I have learnt so much in 19 minutes than I feel like I ever will in my entire education . Thank You.
Hahahaha no problem XD I'm really glad I could help
Thank you Carlos!! Really great picks for top movies as well :)
This movie still hits me harder than any movie I've ever seen. When seb is explaining to Mia why jazz is so great, is literally me explaining why this movie is so great
Every frams, and every second of this film attached with my heart. This movie is fantastic.
this movie made me feel things i never have before, or at least never felt it like that. Which makes it so hard for me to explain or talk about why i love it so much.
Excellent choice for a favorite movie. Music is extremely powerful and can conjure up a ton of emotions. I notice that most of the movies that I love the most and rewatch over and over again are musicals like The Sound of Music, Frozen, Grease, La La Land, etc.
when i saw the thumbnail for this video i got super excited.. we share the same favourite movie.
Yessssssssss love it!!!!
This is the 5th time I've watched this and I'm still confused as to why this doesn't have a million views.
Ahahahawwwww thank you so much. Seriously made my day
I was bored one day and saw the movie poster outside the theatre, I had watched drive recently and thought to give it a shot... That piano bit hits me in the feels everytime. It is my favorite movie now.
This blew me away. So much insight from one short video, and you kept it all so entertaining that I did not look away from the screen--not even once. I am excited to see where you go in life with all of this talent and insight.
First of all, samesies. Secondly, this is the perfect La La Land video essay and a great way to find your channel.
Thanks Mackenzie XD Seriously so cool of you to watch my vids :)
Thank you.
Wow!!! No Thank YOU!!! I really really appreciate the kind words :)
That was a great video essay! I think that's the first time I've seen anyone bring up colors and how important it is. Definitely coming back for more!
Dude so happy you enjoyed it, thanks for taking some time out of your day for watching it :)

After watching the movie on my PC, I regretted not watching in a theatre. This is made so well that watching it anywhere else is just a loss.
I cried at the end when the two characters weren't together anymore because I felt so emotionally connected to them and they had been through so much together!
Awww thank you so much!!! I'm so glad I was able to capture that for you
Gosh such a convincing argument and I totally agree way to many people just see the surface of this movie but there is so much more, and definitely one of my favourites!
I'm so glad!!! Thank you for giving it a watch :)
You have made me love this movie even more! Exceptional video essay!
Thanks, dude, much appreciated 👊

Wowowow thank you!! It's been quite slow for these past few months for putting out videos so thank you so much for the encouragement!
La La Land is one of my top 5 fav movies but I never really knew how to tell the reason why it is, honestly you have summed up why I love this movie so much
i have no words to describe this movie it is absolutely brilliant
wow uh this made me feel something
It’s the best feel good movie I own for sure. Can’t not get happy when thinking about watching it again, no matter how bad of a day it’s been.
Been like 5/6 years since this movie came out and it’s still top of my list. Beautiful film
I am still deciding between this & Banshees of Inisherin.
Thanks for thoughtful appreciation of a great, great film-and i don't even generally like musicals.
Hello this is one of my favorite movies. I love this one!
Ohhhh that's what it was an homage to! I figured that scene was drawing comparisons to something but I didn't know what, so thanks for sharing that!
@@onlymoviesilike oh I was just talking about the music but there are just parallels between la la land and chazelles first movie.
ok seriously, I love la la land more than words can describe, in a completely subjective way. this movie almost feels like a biography of my life, it just feels so personal to me and i can go on forever on the reasons i love it. this video, it somehow put a movie I've seen 20 times in a new light. i loved this video so much, keep it coming!
Thank you so much! I'm glad I could add to the pure magic of it
Favorite is very different from saying it’s the best movie ever made.
One of my favorite all time movies ever.
seeing my personal favorite film whiplash in your top three was cool
great video bro. the editing with the direction text was on point. keep it up. and i am ashamed to admit i cannot listen to sebastians and mias theme without my heart aching.
Thank you so much, Matt!!! I really appreciate it, dude. Also saaaaaameee 😭
Excellently analyzed. I am writing a movie blog for college and this inspired me to write about La La Land
Oh my goodness YES!!! The fact that you watched and even liked my video essay is insane. But somehow you were also inspired by it??? Dude that's just the best feeling in the world for me. Thank you so much :)
@@onlymoviesilike :)
also, the editing & analysis on this video is amazing!! i loved how you perfectly summarised everything i felt watching this movie into words, and the way u ended, just like the movie itself - in a thought provoking-way
Thank you so much!!! I can't tell you how good it feels to have someone say that after so many months of work on this old old video.
Ive never related more to a video. Best film of all time
My word yessss! It's so good every time I watch it
The ending was so heartbreaking. I love this film, is so beautiful.
@@jefftallman3126 Thanks dude :))
this video is just amazing. it managed to put all of the feelings that i have towards this movie into words. i noticed things i never have before and made me appreciate the film even more than i do. this is easily one of the greatest movies of all time. this video is so well made and just so full of clever observations that blew me away.
From the bottom of my heart: Thank you
I get filled with pure beauty in my body and in my soul and I only needs to here those five tones of the melody to be back and filled again. That’s Lala Land to me and it’s my all time favorite movie♥️💙♥️Pure beauty!!
I literally got goosebumps from your explanation of colour. Wow thank you
Whiplash has been my favourite movie for as long as I can remember but this video here had me reconsider my choice.
Thanks for opening the box so I could understand what is.
This movie inspires the heck outta me
Well you just described my favourite movie soooo I'll just point to this video from here on if someone asks me why it is my favourite movie. ^^
this is how i feel about eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
My favorite movie ever
There’s just so many reasons to love this movie. La La Land is stunningly amazing
How do you not have more subscribers..... this is amazing
Hahaha aww thanks. It's probably because it takes forever for me to post XD
Thank you so much Noah! Any enjoyment I can add to a person's experience of this movie is a win in my book! And yeah that part gets me too 😭
probs bro. that intro made me audibly laugh out loud. genius
