Thanks for having me on your channel, Gbogbo Swagger! I enjoyed talking you about my little experience with Kenya!
Thanks to your audience as well for all the comments! I've learned a few things just by reading them!
Apologies for the 'Sheng', official and national lang mistake 🥲 I blanked out but now I'm sure I'll never forget that again.
Update: I've now ridden in a matatu and looking forward to getting more out of my comfort zone to experience more of the city life.
I hope everyone who watches the video can understand that I have the greatest admiration for Kenya and her people and wish best for everyone - both Nigerians and Kenyans.
Thanks again!💙🙏🏽
Thanks for an interesting conversation, I will be Knocking your door very soon 🙏
I’ve loved your presentation about my country. As a Kenyan I was blind or took for granted some of the good things you highlighted. You just made me prouder of my heritage. As a local I suggest you visit Kisumu, Mt Kenya, Nakuru, etc. Also try and get out a bit and please eat some ugali. “Ugali and nyama choma” is the ultimate Kenyan experience 😂
@@cosmasonyambu6170thank you so much for watching, your kind words, and the tips. Much appreciated 🙏
This was an inspiring and amazing watch. Amarachi has been in at least 3 videos out of the many I've watched so far 😊😊
I'm looking into visiting and possibly relocating to Kenya. Is appreciate any relevant help or assistance I can get before I finally take the leap. My questions are centered around best methods for getting a job (P.S already exploring LinkedIn), what's the best city to live?
Warm Regards
The language used by most youthful Nairobians is a mixture of Swahili & English called SHENG........I thought you should know.
Happy new year.

She is great.. she's already a kenyan, the way she talks, very calm and lovely

Now that you are in the neighborhood, don’t forget to visit Kampala, Uganda 🇺🇬. We aren’t as sophisticated as Kenya but we still have a lot to offer. We even have River Nile snaking out from Jinja 😂
I would love to visit UG too
Kenya contribute alot of water to lake Victoria, hence a source of river Nile also from kenya
I love your feedback, I visited Uganda too but I intend to come back soon. Also if you have a Nigerian living in Uganda that I can interview, kindly let me know. I came for work at the prestigious Makerere University. Thanksfor watching and for sharing your thoughts with us

Nairobi is expensive, but it depends on the area where you live. Swahili is a national language, English is the official language. Swahili allows all Kenyans tribe to communicate with each other.
Happy new year.
Thanks for watching, sharing your thoughts and providing us with this information. Much appreciated
Actually Swahili is both, it has been the Kenya national language since 1964 and is official since 2010.
In the new Constitution Kiswahili is both national as well as official alongside English
Swahili is the official and national language of Kenya.
Bottom Kiswahili and English are Official languages apart from Kiswahili also being the national language
You can tell Nigerians enjoy Kenya. Kenya and Nigerians complement each other well.
Happy new year.
Thanks for watching, your kind words and for sharing your thoughts with us.
Nairobi just like any other major city is definitely expensive.. But living in the outskirts is cheaper, the further you go out of Nairobi, the cheaper it becomes.
There are lots of "middle ground" restaurants where the average Kenyans eat out. Westlands might give a different impression, but try and get out more and discover new places.
Lovely conversation.
Happy new year.

Kenyans will shocked!in future!’when foreigners will take over the their country!..😂😂😂This Current Government should stop this nonsense
Wow! Westlands is more expensive than Lekki! I didn't know that. That is not a good thing. I agree that our neighbourhoods are class based and as a result they can be stale. I agree in Westlands it is hard to find a local restaurant vs a high end ones. I also agree we in Kenya can learn about hustle (the get s**t done kind of hustle) from Nigerians. My best city to visit in Africa is actually Lagos. Just the sheer energy, you have to have your instincts awake, every little corner is a lesson I see and just tell myself - we can do this in Nairobi.
Happy new year.
Thank you so much for watching, your kind words and for sharing your thoughts with us.
Thanks for this vital information shared to buttress what our guests shared. Much appreciated
I've enjoy listening your video, that's great experience and welcome to Kenya. The lady is adopting very fast, she's already behaving like a Kenyan.
Great interview and the first really calm Nigerian I have seen. She, however, needs to expose herself more to the real local Kenya. Leave the expat bubble and the touristy side and mingle with ordinary Kenyans, some of her perceptions would shift. However, I can't begrudge her experience so far and views which are very warm.

Good video about Kenya. The beautiful igbo girl, Amarachi ekwekwe, is living an expat lifestyle. That's why she knows a lot about kenyas' tourist areas but little about ordinary kenyans and ordinary places. Eg. Kenyans are well educated. Approx. 90% of Kenyans, even outside Nairobi, speak English but prefer speaking swahili. Recently, Don't lose out on the beautiful experience of interacting with ordinary Kenyans. Nairobi was ranked 1st in Africa as the best city by global expats to live and work; 12th globally ahead of Cape Town, joburg, and other great world capitals Amarachi just provided the answer to why Nairobi is one if the best. It's an optimal balance between infrastructure, internet, power, climate/ weather, and "green city in the sun," status, highly cosmopolitan, Nairobi national park, and world-renowned tourist sites within the country and if course beautiful beaches. Karibu Kenya.
Happy new year.
Thanks for watching, your kind words and sharing this information with us to buttress her point. Glad you enjoyed watching, much appreciated.

About cost of living, Nigerians who relocate here tend to settle in Westlands. That area is ridiculously expensive. Outside or in the outskirts of Nairobi it is relatively affordable even cheaper than Nigeria.
Very true
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts with us. Thanks also for the information you shared
This is such an amazing video. Well done to you and Amarachi.
Just to provide more information as a Nigerian that loves Kenya and has lived in Nairobi and visited Naivasha, Nakuru, and Kirinyaga.
1. Kenya is very exciting. It's such a beautiful country with a large expat. community. So you'll def have fun as there are plenty of things to do and many exciting places to visit.
Nairobi is literally called the capital of Africa.
Try the national parks (the one in Nairobi is cool, but Hell's Gate is my favorite), Giraffe Centre, Elephant Orphanage, the malls, Mombasa, etc. There are a million things to do in Kenya.
2. Kenya has amazing weather as they rightly said. Cold weather in most parts of Kenya aside from Mombasa and a few other places.
3. There are midlevel restaurants in Kenya. You just have to go out more and mix with people.
4. While Westlands, Kileleshwa, Runda, Karen and other highbrow areas are expensive, they are still the best places to live in Nairobi as a foreigner. They are safer and you'll meet many like-minds there.
5. It's not all bliss though. So note the following especially if you're a Nigerian male:
- Most Kenyans especially the middle age and older ones have a notion about Nigerians. So you'll get funny remarks about fraud, crime and all once they know you're Nigerian. My advice is to take it calmly, educate them them if you can and move on. So yea there is that profiling and stereotyping even amongst the educated ones and govt agencies like immigration, police etc.
- Avoid CBD in Nairobi and other trenches-kinda places. Not safe.
- Beware of the Police -- they are very corrupt and will try to extort you once they know you're Nigerian. And yes, extrajudicial killings are a thing in Kenya.
- Don't discuss politics. Assassinations are not a rarity in Kenya
- Be careful and observant. There is fraud, drug peddling, and various vices in Kenya too.
- While Nigeria and Kenya have very good diplomatic relations and both maintain high commissions/embassies in Nairobi and Abuja respectively, the Nigerian high commission in Nairobi is not very responsive to the plights of Nigerians. So don't count on them. At least not every time
6. Lastly, learn Swahili/KiSwahili. It really helps. Also stay out of trouble and mind your business.
Kenyans are generally welcoming, kind and hospitable people and you will meet people from all over the world in Kenya so it's a great place to build a solid network.
Karibu Kenya!
Woooooow!
This is a wealth of experience.
Please do you mind us having this conversation? Please say YES🙏
Looking forward to your positive feedback.
Thanks for watching and sharing this vital information with us.
Most of your opinion is true but just an observation. Most interactions with Nigerians, to Kenyans or rather my circle and me , has been bad across all sectors. I run a bnb & dealing with most Nigerians has ended us at a police station esp the long term guests so I just try avoid having them as guests.
@@GbogboSwagger Sorry I missed this. I just dropped the comment and never looked back. We definitely can have this conversation but I'm sorry it can't be a video recording :)
@@mariadestine4176 Hi, I totally understand where you're coming from. However, the biggest issue here is the profiling (sometimes borne out of jealousy), and corruption of the Police. If anyone breaks the law, do the needful as prescribed by the law. But when you begin to profile every Nigerian, extort them, threaten them, kill them, etc. then what do we make of that? I considered building a life in Kenya but decided against it. Now Kenya is just for business and tourism, nothing more.
@@josephsamuel187I totally understand, I am thinking of starting a podcast, maybe we can have the conversation then. Much appreciated

Amazing Interview. I loved every aspect of it. One important question that was missing is "What do Kenyan's think about Nigerians?" Also "How have they treated you as a Nigerian?" I don't know if you ask the same question in your other interviews though. Everyone visiting or thinking about relocating to a country should always find out if the people are friendly or to hostile their people.
You are always welcome to visit Kenya again Gbogbo.
As a Kenyan, my honest view of Nigerians is that they are very rude, dishonest, jealous and bad mannered i.e. ill bred. Both men and women including those that call themselves born again. I've been to their country and mind you first impressions are lasting impressions - I have a very bad impression of Nigeria starting with Lagos right from their airport. I've heard that Abuja is a little civilized but I really don't care because if the people themselves are unfriendly/rude/ unwelcoming what would be the point of attempting to have anything to do with them? Their rude and aggressive nature makes them look so uncivilized.
Their loudness is ridiculous and even when they move to other countries they take their ills and their scams with them. I can't believe the young lady being interviewed is a Nigerian but from her responses it appears as if there just may be a different class of Nigerians that I've not encountered in life. At first I thought she was a Kenyan or a Botswanan because her accent is close to the accents of those two countries. If all Nigerians were like that young woman, Africa would be 500 times better than the most developed nations in this world. The reason why Africa lags behind on a lot of things also has to do with Nigeria. Let me explain.
As a continent, it's difficult to prosper and move forward like other continents when large countries like Nigeria, Cameroon etc. engage in widespread corruption, civil unrest, international scams and ridiculous things such as witchcraft in this day and age. The smaller and well organized countries are doing their things much better than larger countries like Nigeria and when Nigerians are told the truth they resort to insults and fights. I'm sorry but I'm stating facts and I know most people will not accept this. We as African brothers and sisters need to build each other, encourage each other and help each other even with honest criticism. We need to move forward and prosper but we cannot do so when our big brother Nigeria is pulling Africa backwards. South Africa is a big country but it has set a very good example to all of us but someone must tell Nigerians the truth and state facts about Nigerians without sugarcoating anything. We have lots of brothers and sisters in America, Europe, Caribbean etc. who would like to move to Africa and enjoy the good things in this continent but if Nigeria' reputation is anything to go by, there's nothing to write home about.
Good question!.. this will be added in our subsequent interviews.
Thank you for watching, your kind words and for sharing your thoughts with us. Much appreciated

Your guest is so eloquent..... Very good interview..... About hustling in Kenya I would say Kenyans are hustlers its just that we don't approach in full force... One thing that you can get away with in Nigeria but not in Kenya is poaching or harming wildlife in anyway. Leave alone harming it, you must be licensed to have a wild animal as a pet. No matter how nice you Treat it, keeping it without a license can get you behind bars. So that is one thing that you can't get away with here in Kenya but you can freely do it without any consequences in Abeokuta.
You are indeed very correct.
Kenya protects their wildlife, Nigeria eats theirs which is very sad.

Kenya Airways is Kenyas biggest hussle in Nigeria.
Nigeria population is 220m - more husslers
Kenya 55m fewer hussler
Nigeria largest producer of oil in Africa but no power?
Kenya is organised so no hussle for water, electricity, petrol etc. Nigerians must hussle for this.

3rd largest producer of tea after China and India. Export is very is organised and there is a process to protect farmers. Same with coffee, macadamia, etc

Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts with us.
Please note that this is her experience of living in Kenya, the fact that she chose a particular lifestyle or mode of interaction doesn't negate her experience or make it less valid. Everyone will not have the same view as regards a matter, or of living in a particular place that's why we are not the same and diversity is the spice of life.
Happy new year.
Thanks for watching.
Let's all appreciate that people are different and their experiences can't all be the same. Many thanks.
@@GbogboSwagger No need to be defensive madam oga😀, we're just pointing out that the reason she doesn't get any if not much mid range restaurant is most probably the district in Nairobi she stays at.
The level of opulence in Kilimani, Parklands, Lower Kabete, Riverside among others is different to areas in the East side of Nairobi.
Thanks 👊🏿
She *literally* has no clue about Kenya? You are not being fair to her with your statement.
The guest is clearly not a foodie...on that she got it flat wrong! Food/resturants for the middle class are widely available. Perhaps living in a rich neighborhood, i could understand her position...the very cheap places in rich neighbourhoods work well for labourers etc, to find a meal. In most parts of the city, the average restaurants are in abundance

As a Kenyan, and this is my honest opinion, there's nothing to learn from Nigeria.
Chief, wacha uongo, how about Football, Fashion, Music, Local designers
@@LearnSwahiliFastBeginners you can learn those yourself. No one is preventing you from supporting Kenyan art.

@medical care,you're very funny 😄

This is her experience and what she thinks about the hustling spirit in Nigeria and Kenya. It's a comparison based on her experience.
I think she meant Nigerians are more crafty
15:08 you want to mean we are lazy???? Our altitude is different we can't start shouting all over saying we are this and that??? One question why is all of u flooding Kenya a poor country of lazy person? Go Western world .... let's build yourself....There is alot of middle class restaurants ...this gal na big man piki ..go River road side those restaurants are all over lol ....We are lazy who made our countries the way it is ....our country is organised you need license for most businesses ...b4 you see yourself in trouble sooo ...but honestly i love Nigerian openess personality

You are asking a person who lived in a bubble indoors about the outdoors of a whole new country. She literally doesn't go out much and clearly only interacts with the classist Kenyans who belive eating anywhere that isn't Java house type is ghetto. Find people who actually live with Kenyans. Find @Goebadie to learn the truth of living in nairobi.
Happy new year.

@@GbogboSwagger well when experiences are reported as facts then we are here to correct those experiences. For example to say that there are no middle ground restaurants as a fact is false and will be called out strongly. Everything else she said as a matter of opinion I won't argue with like the general temperaments of Kenyans but opinions that are factually inaccurate will be corrected. And that's that on that.
@@ea7887 thanks for your feedback, I understand where you are coming from and what you mean, there is no need analyzing her statements here, all she spoke about is her experience living in Kenya. Also, this is an ongoing series and I will still interview more Nigerian living in Kenya, their experiences will not be the same. Thanks for sharing this information with us (as regards restaurant options), much appreciated.
I believe she has made that clear and she has been categorical to apologize and say she hasn't mingled much with the diverse locals .... Learn to view with positive attitude and be open to criticism
@@tinaagatha well she was wrong in her observation. Her opinion is inaccurate and I mentioned that. Learn to be factual without feelings. Her stating her opinion as a fact is inaccurate and I mentioned that. Has nothing to do with positivity or negativity. Simple.
13:58 the government....😢we have none ...Kenya chaiiii is worse than ever ...😢😢😢

The day you travel around Africa you will appreciate our country.
Why are Nigerians running away from their country?..Kenyans is too free!..Nigerians come to Kenya to work!..where are Kenyans?
This lady has no clue about Kenya
What are you saying, she has every clue of it, she's actually on point on all the points,
@@LearnSwahiliFastBeginners The fact that she hasn't had Ugali during her stay says it all
On the issue of restaurants, Indeed she is wrong. We have a variety of restaurants of whatever class and level so the idea of only having two extreme ends isn't right. The cost of living is relative. Most expatriates live in high end areas so they have every reason to say it's expensive. But there are much cheaper, better, secure and serene places that one can live in Nairobi outside Westlands, lavington, Karen, kitusuru, muthaiga etc. The good thing is that she admitted that she is an indoor person but however she shouldn't be so assertive on some issues that are factual.
She is sharing her experience.
