I always thought i had to persuade her (and waste all my inspiration points to overcome that hard DC30 skill check) in order to change her mind. The narrator even told me that, thanks to my strong bond with SH, i might be able to turn her "from the path of duty to the path of light" so i just assumed that i had to do something because staying silent would be like giving the green light to the killing. Didn't know this was an option. Seems kinda weird though, because not only it contradicts what the game tells me through the narrator (that i need to get involved), but also because SH was so determined to obey Shar just a few seconds before that it's strange to see her change her mind so quickly.
That's why I like the design of this part so much: you need to have absolute FAITH in Shadowheart. In that she will do the right thing even if the narrator is saying the opposite and the cost for her can be unimaginable. You have to trust all those brief but important moments (every time her hand hurt her is a hint) that she proved she is still a "good" person despite being brainwashed by Shar most of her life. It's brilliant. You need absolute faith in her love, and well, faith and love are what her arc is all about @@SirAlric82

There's a theory somewhere about Shadowheart and her divine magic, as if Selûne was the one giving her that magic all the time, and Shar only using her as a puppet through her followers wipping out her memory and washing her brain, as the reason why she never loses her powers even when Shar rejected her in this very scene. Whatever I did during my initial playthrough, I wasn't given an option. I ended up being forced to kill Shadowheart to save Nightsong. I ended up replaying the whole damn game to redo this differently than I did the first time. XD
For me because I was in coop and my friend started the cutscene, shadowheart doesn't say anything until after than reacts as if I stopped her :S I wrongly assumed she would come back later on in the playthrough... So of course I immediately played again and I just got to this point now.
Yeah first playthrough, I tried to persuade her but my pally only had like a +6 and I left behind any other boons for increasing it. Wouldn't even kind of pretend I was okay with killing Aylin even though we were the bestest of friends. Knocked her out. Later, reloaded and tried to kill her and revive her (she is not revivable after fighting her there), and finally went wayyyy back and beat that DC 30 check with some help from Wyll who had guidance from getting magic initiate bard spells. And maybe some item boons. I knew I could say one of the things like 'if you have to' and then tell her ah, nah, Aylin knows things, spare her, but that first bit of making it seem like I was on board with killing Aylin would've broken my RP too much
Yes. Moments like this should happen more often. But not as scripted 100% of the time event. ONLY if you make sure your companions have time and experiance to change their minds.
Honestly feel Shadowheart has the second best origin story. It is very emotional for us to learn about her past and seeing the choices she makes. And she is the one character that seems to have the most flexible alignment. At the beginning she is neutral, but your actions and playthrough sees her change, and the Shadowheart saving Nightsong is definitely on the side of good, while the dark justiciar is a more hardened villain type.
I love it. All of this scene is filled with a “Yes! In the end, Good wins. Being evil doesn’t pay” :P I’m having my second play through and my chaotic neutral Bardlock basically let Shadowheart do what she wants. She through away the spear, again. Which makes me believe she’s not supposed to be Sharran. Surprise, Astarion after seing the Nightsong fly off, says. “With her free, we only need to strike.” Even that little ball of chaos gets what a powerful ally we just made. Even grumpy Jaheira looks so satisfied for a moment. :D
I was near depressed after being in the under dark and then this place so long, when i got this ending it was the most impactful moment in the game i feel that kept me going and even tho no state rewards no better cutscean could reward and show a good ending then that
I’ve seen the Dame Aylin freedom scene multiple times (reload, videos, new playthrough) and while the first time is uniquely perfect, it’s still biblical each time
One of, yes just one of, the most Tear-jerking, heart wrenching, glorious moments in what ought to be the game of the century. Has any book or film ever tugged at my heart strings like this does. And I am in tears everytime I see this scene.
I've found it's actually harder to make her a Dark Justiciar. You basically have to be an evil bastard for her to do it without coaxing. Or you have to prod her in the right direction.
Players of Planescape: Torment will love this whole scenario, it takes me back to the overwhelming feeling of wonder I had traveling the planes, interacting with powers in play that I knew I would eventually have influence in. Emotionally it's one of the best moments in gaming - seeing her start to become her true self, aided by a powerful and unexpected ally in a beacon of holiness. Outstanding.
I auto proclaim myself king of persuasion, so i passed the test as normaly and is very curious to find out shes just not a stubborn as she appear to be. Also i never have any battle here lol... this game man is so full of paths
i did also same on the first that i ask if she is sure about all that and the second i trusted her - onestly i was shocked when she trow away the spear.
On my first playthrough, I didn't have Shadowheart in my party. After interacting with Nightsong and freeing her, Shadowheart will leave if you go without her. As I was doing a no-savescum first run, that meant I missed all this. I did get it on my second run though. This game is so good. The characters are great. The music is amazing. It stands at the apex of games.
on my first playthrough i convinced her to throw the spear away. On my second playthrough I wanted to see what she would do if she killed Nightsong, so i let her decide, fully expecting her to do it herself, I was completely shocked when I saw her throw it away all on her own. I've loved the character so much ever since.
Bhaltazar fucked me up my first time, he went first fucking ran and cloudkilled my whole group. Second time i faced him he didnt use cloudkill though suprisingly
I could've sworn I tried that and she still killed Nightsong lmao. Maybe I just didn't trust her that much in the face of potentially killing a seemingly innocent person. My character in playthrough one would not let that happen
it depends on how you played up to that path and if she trusts you. If you managed to be a "good" character and she trusts you, she will spare her. If she trusts you and you're an evil character, she will kill.
Shadowheart being scared saying "what will happen to me" had me crying. The best part is that she came to that conclusion on her own. She threw away her entire life's purpose. And when Shar punished and tortured her it was Selune who immediately took her in and protected her while also granting her back her cleric powers.
Wait, seriously?! I wonder what determines if she goes through with it or not. I was choosing mostly "good" options throughout the game, and my relationship with Shadowheart was decently high at the time.
Its based on your actions throughout the game. Grove, sparing the owlbear cub, generally good actions that makes her hand hurt.. All this leads to her abandoning Shar.@@terabellum
Honestly so satisfying trusting Shadowheart and letting the scene play out lol. I like that I don't have to whisper in her ear about what to do. Also there's a funny scene I remember that if you throw away the spear before meeting Aylin (Nightsong), Shar will scream at Shadowheart for being stupid lol.
"i'm gonna make Shart a dark justicier" 2 minutes later "Shadowheart, you have to relinquish Shar" BG3 is a hard game for me to play as a evil character... there is too much unnecessery evil to participate in.
"BG3 is a hard game for me to play as a evil character... there is too much unnecessery evil to participate in.". Read that again. Slowly. xD Theres a reason its called an evil run. Calling it unecessary is already defining it from a good characters POV lol Its RP. aka Not real. Go into it with the intent of being a selfish villain, not as a goodhearted morality paladin xD Thats the glory of DND. You can see how far you can push an RP before it breaks, its not real, thats why its called RP. In normal games you are forced to follow one path, or choices are predefined as right or wrong before you even arrive, where the "wrong" choice automatically leads to instant or rapid loss. With RP in a game like this, you can take choices you know are wrong IRL, but makes sense according to the pre-defined RP you set out to play as.
@@LilyMrrgglton what I mean by that is, in BG3 you can be evil idiot who harm others for no benefit. The moments when you feel like an evil mastermind are almost non-existent. You can be unkind or cruel. But the only moment you can succeed as villain is the end of a game
If you abandon her on the nautiloid and treat her like crap during the missions, she kills the Nightsong. To everyone who says "She chooses this on her own" hasn't yet grasped the depth of the game, and the impact of their choices.

THIS. The narration made me truly believe she would go through with it if I didn't convince her myself. If it wasn't for Twitch chat, I would have never chosen to just sit back and let her decide. (Very glad I listened to chat though)
I like the fake-out though. It makes the player question whether or not they trust Shadowheart to make the right decision in the end. It gives the characters the illusion of agency in a way that most games sorta handhold you through

I knew I could say one of the things like 'if you have to' and then tell her ah, nah, Aylin knows things, spare her, but that first bit of making it seem like I was on board with killing Aylin would've broken my RP too much
There is an option like this with Lae,Zel also
this scene is everything, got chills no matter how many times i watched it. love shadowheart so much 😭
Yes. Moments like this should happen more often.
But not as scripted 100% of the time event.
ONLY if you make sure your companions have time and experiance to change their minds.
her questline is powerful. No matter which path you take.I got very emotional too. Props to the voice actors and writers for that.
Honestly feel Shadowheart has the second best origin story. It is very emotional for us to learn about her past and seeing the choices she makes. And she is the one character that seems to have the most flexible alignment. At the beginning she is neutral, but your actions and playthrough sees her change, and the Shadowheart saving Nightsong is definitely on the side of good, while the dark justiciar is a more hardened villain type.
who got The Best? in your opinion
@@marekw7562 Dark Urge, no question. So closely tied into the whole main story of BG3.
@@dianabialaskahansen2972playing as a durge that romanced shadowheart, I agree lol
I love it. All of this scene is filled with a “Yes! In the end, Good wins. Being evil doesn’t pay” :P
I’m having my second play through and my chaotic neutral Bardlock basically let Shadowheart do what she wants.
I was near depressed after being in the under dark and then this place so long, when i got this ending it was the most impactful moment in the game i feel that kept me going and even tho no state rewards no better cutscean could reward and show a good ending then that
The music is so good - when the horns come in as you see Jaheira is amazing
I’ve seen the Dame Aylin freedom scene multiple times (reload, videos, new playthrough) and while the first time is uniquely perfect, it’s still biblical each time
One of, yes just one of, the most Tear-jerking, heart wrenching, glorious moments in what ought to be the game of the century.
Has any book or film ever tugged at my heart strings like this does. And I am in tears everytime I see this scene.
I literally yelled and clapped when Shart threw her spear in my playthrough.
I've found it's actually harder to make her a Dark Justiciar. You basically have to be an evil bastard for her to do it without coaxing. Or you have to prod her in the right direction.
This is one of the best sequences in the game. Really made Shadowheart interesting for me.
I think this is the best scene in the whole game, so so magic and beautiful.
I absolutely love this storyline. This game!!!!
This scene brings me in tears. With divine beings like this you would think mindflayers would be wiped from existence. My inner paladin was in tears.
I auto proclaim myself king of persuasion, so i passed the test as normaly and is very curious to find out shes just not a stubborn as she appear to be.
Also i never have any battle here lol... this game man is so full of paths
I had a nat 20 on the 30 roll and was so happy xD
I have seen that scene at least 5 times and i never not tear up
i did also same on the first that i ask if she is sure about all that and the second i trusted her - onestly i was shocked when she trow away the spear.
This game is a masterpiece for so many reasons ... story, writing, characters ...
I cry every time I see this scene. It’s so powerful
No doubt, that is a beautiful scene. The larian guys knocked that one out of the park.
i have played with 0 spoilers, and when she started hiting the ground i knew it was good choice, i have goosebombs everytime i see it
71 damage on a sneak attack, dang! Sharp-shooter really working out for you.
I was tempted to mutliclass gloom stalker on him, but the sneak attack numbers are just so damn juicy 😩
15:32 "She's not that powerful" Oh my sweet summer child, you have NO idea
on my first playthrough i convinced her to throw the spear away. On my second playthrough I wanted to see what she would do if she killed Nightsong, so i let her decide, fully expecting her to do it herself, I was completely shocked when I saw her throw it away all on her own. I've loved the character so much ever since.
There is a reason this won Game of the Year. This game brings so much emotion because the people who made loved every part of it.
is there any doubt that this game deserved every award from best game, soundtrack, and voice acting? i had chills too
Bhaltazar fucked me up my first time, he went first fucking ran and cloudkilled my whole group. Second time i faced him he didnt use cloudkill though suprisingly
I'm so thirsty for dame Aylin 😭
SAME.
She bats for the other team tho
@@ArjunSidhan I play both but unfortunately she seems quite taken already
@ArjunSidhan And you know that she doesn't play both teams how exactly?
God I hope Larian studio's let's us play as Aasimar
"There's so many skellingtons" was my exact reaction :)
Ketheric, there is 300 pounds of armored angelic fury coming your way....
And you are no longer immortal! 😂😂😂
This moment was so much more amplified in amazement when I played a selunite cleric romancing Shadowheart
If you don't interfere at all, she lets Nightsong live .. you don't need the persuasion and you get more approval.
When she starts to speak in Urianger
i'm not crying. you're crying!
Classic case of "not sorry for doing something, but sorry about getting caught"
Shadowheart being scared saying "what will happen to me" had me crying. The best part is that she came to that conclusion on her own. She threw away her entire life's purpose. And when Shar punished and tortured her it was Selune who immediately took her in and protected her while also granting her back her cleric powers.
on my current playthrough I killed Balthazar before going to the Astral plane,so so so much easier.
Do you have your full playthrough uploaded? I would love to see it! 😃
When I let her do her thing in my playthrough she just got stabby xD
Reloaded and convinced her otherwise.
@@ZelothGreyThat's amazing. I really am glad you don't have to pass the checks for this outcome.
@@ZelothGreyOH my God, you can TEACH her to be good or evil?! That's so insanely cool.
You can actually trigger this outcome automatically by throwing away the spear before the encounter, which is kind of funny
meanwhile i killed Balthazar in the room we meet him with so many barrels
without knowing what happens in this video, thats what hsppens if you ignore a shart
I am so proud of her.
Also the voice actor, the sadness in the eyes, and the motion of the char is done so well. I cried over Laezel,Astarion, and Shadowheart.
What a frigging gripping great game !!
when a quest is so good that you don't give a s**t about the reward...
"she's not that powerful isn't it"
yup ... she is definitely that powerful
Shadowheart started being one of my least favorite companions. She ended up being my favorite by a huge margin.
I lost Shadowheart here. I tried persuasion and she became hostile and had to kill her. Didn't know there was a way to keep them both alive.
All you had to do was to trust her! "Don't interfere, trust Shadowheart" was my choice.
Best moment in gaming history.
With enough in game "nightsong" points in coding, that is how she will by default throws away the spear and no longer is cleric of Shar onwards.
Trust her
EPIC !
Not letting shart wear the marksmanship hat is a crime its the only hat she can wear
"i'm gonna make Shart a dark justicier"
2 minutes later
"Shadowheart, you have to relinquish Shar"
BG3 is a hard game for me to play as a evil character... there is too much unnecessery evil to participate in.
I actually abandoned a "commit durge" playthrough because I felt awful 😅
"BG3 is a hard game for me to play as a evil character... there is too much unnecessery evil to participate in.". Read that again. Slowly. xD
Theres a reason its called an evil run. Calling it unecessary is already defining it from a good characters POV lol
Its RP. aka Not real. Go into it with the intent of being a selfish villain, not as a goodhearted morality paladin xD
Thats the glory of DND.
Doing all this but all you had to do was trust shadowheart.
When someone asks why or how Baldur's Gate 3 won "GAME OF THE YEAR 2023", show them this....
If you abandon her on the nautiloid and treat her like crap during the missions, she kills the Nightsong. To everyone who says "She chooses this on her own" hasn't yet grasped the depth of the game, and the impact of their choices.
I’m sorry, SHART!?
I know is long ago, but why nobody trust Shadowheart? I did. And is is easier path, trust is not dead in this game.
Still my favorite part of the game
shart face?
should've just trusted her dude :P
I KNOWW. Thankfully, chat passed a persuasion check on me to trust her. 😅
It's one of my favoute things that it had such a high dc to talk her out of it but if you do nothing and trust her she makes the choice (good character story telling :) )@@terabellum
i really didnt like the way they made this whole thing. the narrator saying "you could still sway her to the path of light" clearly suggesting if you DONT sway her she will do it. the only hint she gives is the "i think so" its stupid and ends up robbing people of the experience of her making her own choice instead making people think theres no other way than to savescum a 30dc roll or to watch her go evil
It gives the characters the illusion of agency in a way that most games sorta handhold you through
Mam u have a mustache.
Am I the only one who thinks calling Shadowheart "Shart" is a bit(!) unfortunate? A shart is something entirely different and not cute like she is.
