thank you for taking the time to explain this machine. my instructions had nothing but a liost of parts on the machine so practically usless. wish your hand wasnt in the way in the final part but i think i can work thatr bit out with a bit of playing around. thanks again, was very helpfull
Great video,a thin flat washer on the inside of each actuator arm next to the frame takes out a lot of friction also. There is a Facebook group CHINA LEATHER SHOE PATCHER that has a lot of great members willing to help that’s very useful too.Even though I have a Cowboy 3200 I still go to this machine all the time. There needs to be more videos like yours to help people, thanks
Well... dang! I did not know that this group existed. I will be adding it to my ever growing group count. Thank you for the info, comment, and please link my videos if you want. If there is something you think I should record, or show off, please let me know.
You have to put down the presser foot to catch the thread from the bobbin the presser foot when it is up it's not letting the needle go all the way down to catch the bobbin so put the presser foot down then rotated and then it'll pull it up from the bobbin
Sorry friend. You didn't show how you fixed it in the end? Same issue I have right now.. what position did you have the bobbin holder in for it to work? And the crank handle position as you did it?
Since my machine only has one, I don’t know about that. If you have Facebook, search for the leather shoe patcher group and ask there. I know that I have seen a few with that double system. I am pretty sure that you only need to use one for normal operation and that having two would allow you to have double threads on the machine.
@@BrassrootsLeather I read the second one is for thinner thread if needed. I purchased two machines Keeping the second one on the machine I'm keeping. So far I have not needed it.
That would be about the same thing. If you want to try to use waxed thread, you will need to use thinnest possible and probably change up the needles. But for that check the page... there are a lot of modifiers on it and they have great tips!
Where should i be looking in the hardware store to make a little poker tool like yours? Plumbing? Not sure my awl will do the trick and you made that look easy 💪🏻
I have a thin rod made of copper that I filed the tip to have a V cut in it. LOL, sorry I made it look easy. Check in the hardware store for a thin rod probably no larger than 1/8" in diameter (check the machine's hole, I will come back with an actual measurement.) I know they sell aluminum and steel rods at most places. Cut it to about 12" long, and file on end in such a way that it ends up with a V groove in it. This then allows you to take the thread and loop it over the end, and push it down. I then ram-rod it a bit and that gets the loop to come out the end by the needle. Hope that helps... happy sewing!
With the needles that came with it... use upholstery nylon thread. If you want heavier thread you will need to go to the Facebook page and search for modifications to the machine there and needles that will match threads. The bobbin is small... so you won't get a lot in there with thicker threads. Facebook group link: facebook.com/groups/1646031288779869
I would suggest you go to the Chinese Leather Patcher group on Facebook. There you can find people from anywhere in the world that can shed some light onto your specific issue.
Good video, especially since you did not edit out the difficulty you were having with the bobbin carriage timing. You didn't look bad by keeping it in. It is by mistakes that we learn.
That is my exact problem.I wish you would have shown what position the base bobbin was put in-your right hand covered up the position that you discovered. I am glad to know that I am not the only one trying to figure out the problem!
I second this request, thank you, also, for someone without much knowledge of needle types, sizes and thread sizes, what is the maximum thread size i can use for leather with this needle?
Vivian Mansfield I use mainly upholstery thread, the nylon kind for leather. I will be testing with hemp soon and thicker thread once I get the correct needles.
Sorry for so late a reply... I don't know why I have not seen notifications. If you have Facebook. Go To: facebook.com/groups/1646031288779869 It is a Chinese Leather Patcher Group.
Two things made me crazy with your video. You didn't show which way the bobbin turns when you pull the thread one the bobbin is in place. And your camera cut off the top of your threading pattern. Did the thread go through the big ring before it went through the hole in the arm, or did it go straight up to go through the hole in the arm? Logic says that ring is there for a reason, but it sure would have been nice if you showed the whole threading path. I just checked our next video - loading the bobbin. It doesn't answer these two questions either. Now I'm looking to somebody else for an answer. I know I've seen somebody pull the thread on the bobbin when it is in place and comment that it is turning the right direction. Just have to find it again.
My apologies for the previous comment. It was written after a day of some frustration with my new machine. I should have prefaced it with some gratitude for your video, which had some very useful tips and got me started. The manual that came with my machine is worse than useless, so the effort you put into making your video was really a life saver. I got the machine assembled and working last night. I'm delighted with the way it sews. Once I make a few modifications, like making a solid base for it and refining that bobbin loader, it's going to serve me very well. So, thank you very much.
Your first post went into the spam bin (I did not know that existed until today.) I will be making a new video probably this week showing the threading only clearly. I imaging you already know how, but with your comments in mind, it is needed.
Leave the cover of the bobbin open completely. Move it slowly and see if the bobbin is turning and catching the needle the ways it’s supposed to. It could be that it’s not in the right position. If that is correct. Check the tension spring on the bobbin. It could be too tight. Pull the string by hand from bobbin. It should give resistance, but come up, if it doesn’t then you need to rewind the bobbin as the thread is catching.
What size needle and thread do you use? I have the same sewing machine and use 62 size thread with the original needle. Im wondering if it could handle 92 size thread? Good Luck!
Michael Kaul - I am it not so knowledgeable in those areas of things of the sizes of thread and needles, and also use the needles that came with it, and purchased needles similar to the ones that came with it. From what I understand, you need to find the needles with a larger hole to allow for larger thread. I use upholstery nylon thread from Joann’s for mine. If you do find out a better needle size, please let us know and I will get some and make a video of it. Thank you.
Probably the safest place, online via E-bay. Look for Chinese Leather Patcher machine. I got mine for US $75 and $75 for shipping (this will vary from location to location.)

@@willarmstrong398 I stopped the rotation, and lifted the bobbin and its carrier and reset it so that the center of the carrier was facing at 12 o'clock with respect to me facing the machine. Then reinserted the bobbin and tested to ensure that it was in the right spot. Glad you hear you joined the FB group. It is more moving and has a lot more constant feedback.

Is there a way to adjust the length of your stitch?
YES, it is a screw that is on the lower back side of the machine.
