Gonky , what can be said, knowledgeable, articulate, modest, self effacing, and extreamly likeable. He takes some of the edge off, Mover when they pair up.
To be honest, maybe it was him being new, but I didn't get into his commentary as much with Mover in their early days. I think that this is one of his best interviews yet. I'm sure it's partly because he's more comfortable doing online stuff now, but I also think Mike deserves a lot of credit. I don't know how many pilots he's interviewed so far, but you really get a great view of pilots here. So keep up the great work Mike! You too Gonky, love the work you're doing and you did a great job when you solo hosted M&G a few weeks ago!
Holy smokes. I've been down at Straits Quay a lot, but seeing a Hornet in blower like that would've knocked my socks off. Awesome that you got a recording too. Loved the stories, great interview!
Gonky has really grown on me and I really enjoy what he has to say and his take on things. He balances Mover out really well. Being in T&E flight test his past and experiences are valued for sure. 👍🏽
Great to hear the ground crew mentioned, and the pride taken to get their aircraft off the ground. Superb interview, thanks Gonky. (Also rejected aircrew for asthma (Biggin UK), but in 1976!)
I am no fighter pilot and hearing some of these acrynoms don't give any clue but it was sure fun to listen the whole conversation. Great interview, very lively and sounds like a whole bunch of fun when up there.
Gonky my is such a sweet guy! Got a level head on him too! Great guy. Re: Hawk, I guess they didn’t know the t45 has a down rated Adour engine while the Hawk 200 has a much more capable version
I' m an electronics/IT guy I had 8 radio systems and a 1000+ radios plus remote systema and it was not work. worked 32 years as a tech and it was play so I can relate to Gonky I loved the work but his was cooler but fun is fun.
You made the same comment on the Part 1 of this. Please clarify to those who are unaware: what’s the reason you make this comment ? Some of us know that on their show they tease his photo sitting in the right seat of a Herc. Surely you don’t have a problem with the Herc or this pilot.
@ I am calm and about as easy as a Sunday morning…. You seem to be getting worked up. Just tell those folks who _do not know_ the funny side of it so that it’s all good.
Soviets/Russians offer 3 types of every plane they had_ Tier 1 only for Russians/soviets Tier 2 for close ally like warshaw pact countries Tier 3 for everyone else the main difference was in electronic sometimes even in engines for example radar in Tier 3 plane had maybe 50% of capabilities of Tier 1 plane
Not necesarily.. that engagemente the Hornets fired AIM7s first head on at relativy short range.. (arround 5nm) had it been a MIG-29 the Fulcrum could had fired first head on.. but there were a lot of merges in the gulf war because the Iraqui pilots had even worst SA and info than the coalition.. so they many times merged to make sure the other guy wasnt a friendly .. had that been the case the Hornets would had fired first putting the Fulcrums into defensive or shoting them down

@@davidsmith8997 Many thanks!
@@davidsmith8997 Agreed. Mike brings out the best is everyone he interveiws.
Gonky is so cool when he tells this stories. It would have been so cool to see that exercise with such mix of fighters.
I forgot where he posted it but there is some insane footage of like 20 fighters all in formation with a mix of fighters including F/A-18 and Su-30
"You're Boeing, it's okay!" Haha they revered him so much.

What a great interview again Mike. Mover next???
@@Ian-Saxon had Mover on years ago :)
How on earth did I overlook that one.
Right.
I’m on it now 👍
His delivery reminds me of Norm MacDonald... great storyteller. He even looks a bit like him.

Is there a way to ask Gonky some F18 questions? It pertains to flying in DCS World, case 3 landings.

“Unobserved entry”….so to speak??
HORNET SHOT DOWN A MIG21 IN DESERT STORM IF WAS A MIG29 HORNET WOULD HAD LOST BIG TIME PERIOD
why would you say that? most real fighter combat is BVR. hornet would have no problems with that.
