I'm not calling Lynch a narcissist, but he sure has many characteristics as one.
his behavior points more towards autism than narcissism.
Dude I listened to tom Werman and don dkken interviews, Before I got any other perspective. Apparently george is actually a really down to earth guy, I even have a close friend that has met him multiple times
Lynch is a strange cat.
very.
Cocaine addiction.
Yep. He's my favourite - Just blows my mind, but look at how many people he's played with. It's usually one or two albums and then he's off doing something else. I can't imagine it's easy to be in a band with the bloke. Don's probably difficult too so those two will always be at each other, but he did say something recently to the effect that George "is always looking for something and still hasn't found it". Wondering if there's some truth in that. Damn, though - His playing is incredible.
Years ago, I had a professional encounter with George regarding an amplifier. Let’s just say the encounter was far less than pleasant.
Tom's resume speaks for itself. MUCH respect. Between him and Michael Wagener, that's the sound of my youth! So may great records!
Lol, I'd love to have seen Zakk chucking Bonham around.
I dunno boss. Prime Zakk vs Prime Bonham is. 50/50 u pick em scrap.Bonzo much crazier and inherently violent than Zakk.
@@geraldfriend256 Maybe John Bonham was crazy, but all I've ever heard about Jason is that he's kind of weird to work with, he certainly doesn't deserve the moniker bonzo that's for sure, he's a pale shadow of his father.
The Full in Bloom guy has the coolest voice.
Thank you for taking the time to say so. I really appreciate it.
@@fullinbloom you're most welcome.
Tom, your resume speaks for itself sir. Respect. 🙏
George Lynch's work speaks for itself. Far more talent than Werman.
@@jeffjones3040 I love Lynch's work also. He is a better guitar player and Werman is a better producer.
Oh yeah ridiculous resume/CV
George has consistently said odd things forever.
He is an arrogant atheist. ha Atheists are some of the most arrogant, condescending and insufferable people on the planet.
Heavy steroid use knocked a few of Lynch’s screws loose
You mean Don, right?
Yeah don's an idiot for sure.
Fried Coke brain.
That Jeff Beck live album is one of the greatest. I listen to it every day when I was a kid.
Yeah, George Lynch is known to be a malicious prick. When Tom recalled the time George lost his mind after Tom told him to play the solo on Tooth and Nail melodic, I remembered a recent interview with Don who said creating a melodic solo isn't in George's wheelhouse.
I have a professional guitar player friend who has met george lynch many times, Supposedly he is shockingly down to earth..
George is "known to be a malicious prick" by whom???? Don??? Jeff, Mick and George are all still friends and worked together for decades after Dokken - Jeff and George still do. George has played with a TON of other musicians after Dokken and made lots of great music. I don't recall ANY of those dozens of bands/musicians that say anything bad about George (let alone calling him a malicious prick). Other than Don (who hates everybody and everything) not sure who you are talking about. And Werman is clearly pissed, but it is fairly common for musicians and producers to argue when making records....especially when you got a guy who is super talented and wants to shred and you have Don, who wants to be "the lead guy" and Werman who was, as he said, a folk guitar player. If they had their way and got George out of the Band during Tooth and Nail, Dokken would have folded.
"It's a character flaw in me, but I can't let this go"
Most authentic sounding words I've heard all year.
What do you mean? It is a character flaw and he’s being honest.
Always the best interviews 🙏
That’s the absolute truth.
Tucker didn't edit the videos! That is what your buddies did. That being said, Tom did produce some great albums and Double Live Gonzo is at the top.
I'm glad there's a few of us that caught that kind of jab he took at Tucker Carlson. Tom werman is a great producer that goes without saying, but he needs to leave the political mumbo jumbo to himself. Because all of us have you metal fans come from all different walks of life and political persuasions. So that was really uncalled for and unnecessary. And he produced Ted Nugent and Ted Nugent is a staunch die hard republican as I am myself.
@@HeavyMetal-HardRock Or, you could disavow the crazies such as Mr. Carlson. Problem solved.
Yep. That was a BS statement that showed this guy's level of cognitive dissonance.
@@lanceraustin Tom has Jan 6th backwards. It was the evidence destroying cover up committee that cut up and added sound to Jan 6th footage.
@rbruggeman7722 I think you're late for your conspiracy theories meeting. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some pressing matters to attend to here in the real world..
Now I want to hear Tucker's response to Tom!😂😂
Tucker doesn't care about this leftoid has been.
The only ones suppressing, censoring and editing videos are Tom's buddies. They hate the sunlight of truth.
Tom has Jan 6th backwards. It was the evidence destroying cover up committee that cut up and added sound to Jan 6th footage.
Exactly! They got busted cold.@@rbruggeman7722
He should stick to his day job that he is excellent at.
Lynch didn’t really get furious until ULAK, and peaked on BFTA. Tooth and Nail sounds like demos in comparison.
Another great interview.
I loved the production on Tooth and Nail. Especially George's solos. Listen to the raw sound of the ending solo on 'Into the fire'. That was the solo that made me sit up and listen to Lynch and become a massive fan of his playing. Before that I thought nobody could touch Randy.
George admitted that he couldn't figure out what Randy Rhodes was doing on the guitar, when he was trying to prepare for an audition for ozzy, after Randy had passed away. Warren DeMartini helped him learn some of Randy's licks, but George still didn't get the gig. Jake E. Lee did! It's pretty much impossible for any guitar player to try and replace Randy Rhodes!!!
@@rareexotics8020 Yes John Sykes should've got the gig, I feel. But Jake did and the rest is history.
@@rareexotics8020Brad Gillis got the gig initially. But he had his own band so he didn’t stay.
The thing that I always thought was weird about Tooth and Nail, and I picked this up almost immediately is that there are no drum fills or use of anything other than snare and kick. Almost like a drum machine.
@@masonb9788 I must check that out. Usually i hone into the guitar parts or the vocals, unless something really obvious regarding the bass and drums jumps out at me.
I love Tom Werman’s work.
I’ll never understand the hype around tooth and nail. Under lock and key is FAR superior
I prefer Tooth and Nail but Under Lock and Key is right up there with it in my opinion.
@@Wolfie66 idk I just think tooth and nail is a little too raw. Production on under lock and key is just so crisp and the record is just very consistent.
Don Dokken with out talking about Tom confirmed how George was early in his career. George didn't know how to start and end a solo like mark st John
Without a good producer every band fails ,look at all this bands that use a good producer ,you need someone to take to the next level
Jimmy Page produced Zeppelin, so you don't necessarily need an outside producer to be successful.
Did Dokken fail on Lock & Key? Or Back for the Attack? Even though magical Tom Werman wasn’t there? Back was their best album by miles.
There were records where it was the band and the engineer, and the producer was there because of the record company. But the mention of Workman going behind Werman’s back was crazy and a potential career destroyer.
Producers exist to make records sound commercial.
@@andrepires7687 there are plenty of good and great records that don't sound commercial and also had a producer. They just had a producer that didn't or doesn't think from a commercial point of view. Some music is so good that it just can't be denied...it's going to get somewhere.Yes there are people who help it along outside of the band but that's usually from business and promotional assistance and not often with the music itself unless the music is being assembled solely to make money for record executives.
I love many of these albums that he worked on. I’ve heard quite a few of his interviews and it’s funny because for somebody that can recall every detail from a select few things, cannot recall the basics sometimes.
I noticed that too but remember he is 78 years old
It is because when you start telling lies, keeping the facts straight gets hard. Werman has reached that stage of life where he regrets losing track of things during his cocaine-fueled days, so he invents stuff to make up for the loss. Call it the Carrie Fisher Syndrome.
More like the mark brooks syndrome@@markbrooks8623
My old pal Tom... I worked for Q Prime for 9 years and I dealt with Tom many times...He was a joy ...Doug Morris and Mike Alago were C suckers...How are ya Tom??
Got any cool Dokken or Metallica stuff for sale?
Tom Werman and George Lynch are both brilliant...I've seen George with Dokken and Lynch Mob and he's absolutely amazing... He's a guitar nerd which is great .. George had a lot to do with ESP Guitars and helping his old tech Matt Masciandaro develop ESP....both are geniuses
I have your interview with Werman to thank for introducing me to The Wildhearts. I'd never heard of them before; love that band, I think they should be bigger.
NEVER heard one person say they liked working with Lynch. Everything about him is negative. That tells me everything.
I really enjoy your talks with Tom Werman. He seems like a down to earth guy who's worked with legends; my heroes. In my mind, that makes him a legend as well. Keep up the great content.
Totally agree. If you really want to know how much a producer contributes to a bands songs listen to the demo's vs. the released album. I LOVE Cheap Trick and have a re-released album from the 80s that contained some demos of popular songs. Total difference for the better when hearing the album version vs. the demo version.
It's probably all a moot point this far down the line, but in George's circle, there are all kinds of burnt corpses around him he once literally called his brothers. Oni Logan, Don Dokken, He says he and Mick Brown are no longer friends (to which Mick would later respond, claiming he has no idea what George is talking about??) Anthony Esposito, Sean McNabb and of course Tom Werman among others. I absolutely love listening to George play and always have, but by my reckoning, without someone around him with a steady hand on the rudder, he tends to be a bit dismissive and self destructive. Only a lifetime fan here with an outsiders perspective mind you. 💔 😢
The entire industry is full of ego problems. Lynch has maintained many relationships from the beginning. Him and Warren Di'martini are still tight.
I’ve worked with George as his guitar tech when he traveled into the Chicago area. George is the greatest guy you’ll ever meet and work with.
Oni is a pain in the ass with his head still in the clouds. McCabb is totally full of himself.
You have to understand, these guys around George or that used to be in his circle were riding on his coattails and prowess. They are users. And George is quite self sustainable.
Without George, Dokken would have never been what it was.
@@douglaslane2570nice try George.
Huh??
@@douglaslane2570Don wrote many of the riffs for Dokken, of course he could have survived. Up from the ashes was amazing
Werman did so many badass albums in his career. Too bad Furious George isn't enamored with Tom.
Yeah, too bad.
@@douglaslane2570 what I drew from this interview was that Tom wanted George to be more focused and to play up to his abilities, and not screw around while on studio time. We all had teachers that wanted us to do better than what we did. I think this was no different.
Tom seems like a totally level-headed dude... just hearing this interview would have me hire him if I was in a scenario that warranted it.
Motley Crue, Shout at The Devil. The intro to "In The Beginning", That sound at the start is an F-15 fighter jet taking off with super slow audio playback. That was Jeff Workman who came up with the idea. 👍
Yeah lol...... Motley Crue needed sound effects lmfao 🤣
And it is Geoff's voice
Wish you could go in depth on the first 2 or 3 Hatchet albums with Werman.
Great interview. Just for the record, Mr. Werman, Tucker Carleson didn't "EDIT" anything from the Jan. 6th videos. He simply presented the tapes that the government
didn't want us to see. There was no editing bro.
Werman has TDS
Tucker wasn’t holding back 14,000 hours of video footage from the public so we could make our own informed opinions.
Tucker is a total tool, he makes up shit and lies about more shit than he tells the truth. Him and that pillow guy should start a church cult…. Oh wait they already tried that!!😮
I mean he's obviously a deluded libtard using two bad references that are both inaccurate. They always expose themselves with stupid comments!
All I know is that Tom Werman made Blue Oyster Cult sound like crap on Mirrors, so I don't know how much I can trust his word.
george has said some oddball things like peavey was using prison labor to build their amps. love george
It’s an exaggeration but he’s trying to make a point about the working conditions back then.
George was not the only person to accuse Peavey of using prison labor.
George was actually right about the prison labor, LOL. It was something Peavey tried to keep quiet at the time. Peavey has left Mississippi now of course so who knows what they get up to.
Tooth and Nail, thank you! My favourite '80s Metal album.
This guy’s great to listen to. I will say (not defending George here) if you critique a musician’s playing, you gotta expect a negative response. It’s a deeply personal expression. Maybe George just needed time to cool off. But, no doubt in my mind-Tom made these guys sound amazing.
That isn’t true at all. Producers literally are hired to CRITIQUE THE MUSIC, or is 50% of their job, to say what is a take what sounds good and what doesn’t. Lynch was always doing coke and was probably paranoid and raging.
Only armatures see their music as deeply personal. A musician wants to communicate .
Don't sweat it Tom. You seem like a SUPER stand-up guy who has moved on with his life with yet other successful endeavors. What you have with these washed up '80s rock stars, my words not yours, are guys that were shiny and groovy for a moment 35 years ago, and they can't let go of the fact they'll never be that shiny and groovy again. Thank YOU for the musical gifts you brought to me and a multitude of others from the many bands you produced and in many ways "broke". You have a touch that has never been rivaled. A great soundtrack to my youth. Thank you. All the best going forward..
Respect man! Jeff beck live with Jan hammer is one of my all time favourite albums!!
Very very interesting. Thanks.
How the hell did mark walberg the rapper get to play a rock guy. Should have used the guy from steal heart that did the vocals
As far as blaming Tom Werman for anything crazy. Tooth and Nail is superb!
I absolutely love George Lynch's guitar work - especially the early Dokken ( thru Back for the Attack ) and the Lynch Mob "Wicked Sensation" albums. As a guitarist myself , I would also say without a doubt George is in my top 10 rock guitarists of all time - that said - it does seem George has either a reality or truth problem. He just seems like he is constantly putting other people down...and after enough years of that have gone by...you have to question if George is not actually most of the problem.
I’ve worked with George on several occasions for festival gigs and what not as his guitar tech. He’s the nicest guy you’ll ever meet.
After being around him a few times I couldn’t help but think to myself…Don was the problem, not George.
@@douglaslane2570buddy that’s not what Don or producers say
That’s ok. The truth hurts many people’s feelings. Oh well. George has every right to speak his mind and be opinionated.

Back for the attack was indeed the last good Dokken album. Lynch is definitely in the top 10 greatest Hard Rock guitarists of all time.
...but their last GREAT album was "Under Lock and Key".
@@guitarizt68 Under lock and key was excellent but the best riffs are on Back For The Attack in my opinion. \m/

Ah, well, we can agree to disagree, then, brother, as I feel "U.L.&.K" were absolutely their best collection of songs, while "B.F.T.A." was some of their weakest-ever material, and whose album sales were built upon that of its predecessor (a common trait in the entertainment industry) 😁
@@guitarizt68 You know that old saying lol......opinions are like a$$ holes, everyone's got one but everybody thinks everyone else's stinks but their own.

I really think some political analogies would better help me grasp what he's talking about there.
I really makes me doubt if what he's saying is true even though I know George was a bit prickly back in the day.
I'm glad you also caught that. There's a few of us that did notice that. That was uncalled for an unnecessary that he made that political comment. Leave that in his head I believe. Great producer, but still he needs to keep that to himself
Tom Werman's track record cranking out hit albums is undeniable. Couldn't get more polar opposites than Don and George, and it's amazing that they stayed together long enough as they did without killing each other in the process. Maybe George was an ass to Werman, but hey he was young, one of the best coming out of the LA guitar scene, and wasn't going to let anyone short of Eddie Van Halen or Randy Rhoads tell him how to play his shit. Sure it's a lot of walking on glass for Werman, but that's part of the producer life. Especially when it's rock n roll and a whole bunch of egos.
😆 🤣 - " George Lynch is sounding like George Santos ! "
That is a great comment dude. Seriously.
Or George Soros
"Like Tucker Carlson did with January 6th"
Yeah, that comment alone makes me believe Lynch and others' claims of douchebaggery on Wermans part. Should be 'Worm'man..
Tom has Jan 6th backwards. It was the evidence destroying cover up committee that cut up and added sound to Jan 6th footage.
Not 100% sure but I think Geoff Workman did some kind of tour managing for Overkill in the early 90's. I got an interview with Bobby Blitz during the years of decay tour. And I was to speak to Either a Frank or Geoff Workman regarding the details etc. . Im 100% positive about the last name workman but not so sure about the first name. Hearing that name peaked up a memory from a long time ago.
George makes up drama to keep his name out there. There is no such thing as bad publicity.
More stories about zakk and Jason please
George always ALWAYS had this competitive jealous thing with guitar players. Especially with Randy Rhoads. I met George and asked him about Randy. George just smiled at me and wouldn't say anything else like I shouldn't have asked him. He had no remorse when Randy died, and always said mean things about him. I talked once to the guy that was actually taking lessons off George at Musonia when they broke in the room and said Randy just was killed. The student told me and Kelle Rhoads was there too, that George just laughed and said now maybe he can get his chance. So what, if in fact George's claim he showed him the tapping type lick Randy used on flying high. He should be proud Randy used it. It's no different than everyone borrowing a Hendrix lick or Chuck Berry lick in famous guitar solo. In the Randy Rhoads documentary being made, he was the only one that wanted paid for it saying something about Randy. He was always Jealous of Randy and also Ed.. Georges style was more like Ed than Randy in the beginning anyways.
What a colossal set of lies this comment is. Just plain bull shit all the way around. I’ve also talked to Kelle about their relationship. Randy thought George was better than EVH. He respected George. Why did he pick him to take his place at Musiconia. George thinks highly of Randy.
That's musical competition. I highly doubt George would have said that in front or around Kelle. Delores would have commanded enough respect from George. I won't believe it was that malicious. But I wasn't there.
If you really listen to his and George's comments, they are essentially the same thing, just from a different person.
I have talked to George numerous times. I met Tom once and talked to him when I stayed at his B&B. 40 years is a long time to remember nuanced details. I don't think George was being mean spirited when he made his comments. I would like to hear Tom address George's stone soup charge. Fiction or an opinion? Seems to me these are subjective arguments. In the end Tom respects George's abilities. And George never said one negative thing to me when I've talked to him about Tom. Let's celebrate the product. It's epic.
You heard it from the horses mouth how "live" albums are not so live.
Ignoring the truth doesn't make the truth go away. Frampton to has a great quote about kiss alive album something about yes we're finished with our album and kiss is down the hall recording they're live album

I like some of George's playing. And as another person said, When I feel like Dokken I go to Tooth and Nail. I like their 1st LP too. Anyway, I saw Dokken in 88 on the Monsters of Rock tour in Wisc. One of the 1st if not the 1st of those shows and it was great. But during Dokken, the weirdest, spiraling sound kept coming out, like a malfunction from George's amps during his solo bits, whatever. Maybe somebody was really pissed, van Halen? Someone for a remark he made. It was obvious to me that someone sabotaged his gear. Next up? Scorpions! They blew everyone away. No technical problems before or after. And sadly. I really wanted to hear George at his best but this thing, man, screwed up their gig.
I noticed in Detroit at the monsters of rock Dokken was all bass and drums...couldn't hear the guitar at all most of the show, plus when Don started singing on the FIRST song they didn't have his vocal turned on.
It’s not sabotage. Sound difficulties happen all the time. It’s harder than you think to mix a sound.
George is kinda like Yngwie....great ability but two or three songs and I'm out. Bring on Jake or someone similar that really "gets it" and I will play it over and over and over....
Theater of pain was a strange sounding album. I love it, but it was different, for sure.
Jason has grown up a lot since those days.

I feel like, in some past Werman interviews, he comes across as shallow, lurid, gossipy. But here, I find him quite dignified. My only complaint: You didn't get to follow up on Don's claim of Workman staying up all night "Mixing, and... doin' shit..." We need those details! Haha
Im pretty sure Tucker has no idea who this guy is and wouldnt take the time to rebuke his bullshit.

Werman, the Jan 6th comparison? Totally unnecessary and dumb. Unnecessary because this is music, leave out the politics (you here that Bono?) and dumb because Tom is wrong. To quote Werman “everybody makes stuff up nowadays”. Yes, like you just did with Tucker Carlson. I love his past work but I’m glad he’s out of the business
As soon as I heard him say that about tucker I quit listening and said to myself, oh he's a brain dead lying liberal.
I quit listening after the idiotic Jan 6th comparison.
Sounds like he is trying to get work.
Ironically he did a interview with Ted Nugent about the albums he worked with Nugent on. Before the interview starts, the interviewer said that Werman would only do the interview if Ted didn't speak about politics at all
Tucker Carlson edited nothing concerning Jan 6. Listen to it for yourself online.
Dokken we’re a good opener but never was that impressed
Love George Lynch, saw him many times. 1988 on the Monsters of Rock tour in Miami Florida he threw down his ESP in anger and was angry as hell. In the crowd sounded great and being a player and he was an idol was taken aback. Have seen him many times since and always still thought highly of him, he always seems not impressed with anyone. He is more grounded now. At the same time be nice. He lost quite a few a gigs including the Ozzy gig to Jake and the Dio gig to Vivian Campbell. He was one of the guys in the late 70's that was smashing. Edward, Randy and George were the guys back then. Still love Love George and his playing. The Lynch Mob album Wicked Sensation is golden.
Interesting..
“You can’t just make things up” right after he made something up about Tucker
It's alright I've never thought much of Geoff Workman anyway. Not an engineer whose work I like. Clipping. Distortion. Boxy.

Werman is a total legend of a producer. The Led Zeppelin and Beatles of power pop, hard rock and metal producers.
The fact that these old guys still cry and complain about s*** that happened 40 years ago is absurd!
According to Don Dokken, there was a lot of cocaine around at that time. Maybe that's why George acted like he did. Don wasn't` into the coke thing. I think Tom Werman is a Master.
Can Werman whine anymore?
