I’m a very inquisitive person. So I Google Earthed Admiral kalfbus rd. Deducted from there. I found an OCN switcher, caboose and passenger car + this engine and a Boston & Maine caboose. On Burma road. Pretty cool. ……Thanks for the video.
Well done. No doubt you follow in the footsteps of DaVinchi, Gallaleo, Tesla & Von Humboldt who became masters of observation. If only to witness others more interested in personal assumptions rather than imperical fact make udder fools of themselves. As a professional Arborist I had been waiting all my life for google street view in order to take FULL advantage of time travel when diagnosing tree issues.
Great video. As a Brit who models American Railroads wouldn't it be something else to model a little used short line, weeds and all! Thanks for sharing.
Great ride..lets do it again..Last time in Newport was to see Big Brother and the Holding Co..w/Janis.Don't remember any tracks then...Great vids..Keep them coming..
I was visiting my sis in Middletown in 2018 and we went on the Rail Explorers trip. We passed the loco used in this film on the way so I stopped to get a photo.
You have brush-cutters etc. But surely the locomotive is the best of all. Bash your way through. Unless there's branches that might whip back and break a cab window. that would spoil your day. Damn it the whole line looks like it needs the 'ties' replacing. Why don't you use pre-stressed concrete ties in the USA. Unless you got really tight curves they need less maintenance apart from tamping and new ballast. At least the road doesn't have the crazy sinking of the track like the infamous Maumee & Western. The locomotive looks unusual. It has two trucks like a regular diesel-electric. But the axles of each truck have connecting rods. BTW: Did you find milepost #1?
Looks sketchy as all get out! Not very many spikes at all holding those rails in place! And a LOT of ROTTEN ties! Those guys really did a good job getting there and back!
This rail line is currently an "isolated railroad" unfortunately. Only being used for tourist trains and not freight trains. The New Port Secondary has been severed from the National Freight Network since the late 1980s.
We run as needed if there’s some projects but nothing regularly scheduled. The dinner train is running a few days a week though but the budds are out of service. The dinner train is doing some track work to get back into Newport soon so the line, for the most part, is being kept “open”.
Im not really a rail fan like everyone else, I just think trains are pretty cool and interesting. One things I've always wondered tho, how long will an abandoned line of track stay useable if left untouched? Not including say natural disasters that ruin a line or something, but a regular line just left untouched and unmaintained. It just seems risky to decide to start using an old line and send equipment down it without having it inspected and repaired. From the videos Ive seen it appears it could be many years. Don't know, thought Id ask.
It all depends on various factors like region, how much rain the area gets (washouts), traffic over the tracks that could damage the track (foot, car, construction equipment), etc etc but generally tracks are inspected for any issues prior to any run.
I took a look at maps. It actually runs beautifully next to the the bay through Portsmouth. Sad, you can see where they tore up the rail which went all the way to a Providence I believe. But I think it will be popular. Really nice views will be had. (Just not this ride lol )

It's always nice to see an out of service rail line reactivated. It's amazing how fast the vegetation takes over when the rails are not in use.
I think it is still out of service. It is not connected to anything. Dead end both ends. A novelty rail line.
Nice Locomotive running in the type of scenery that I like...Thanks, and a Happy 4th of July from your neighbor up in Canada.
What a Great Little Train Adventure! Thank you for sharing.
Great railfaning video. They need to call DR to get the mower attachment to cut the brush and weeds as they go. Happy 4th!

Scruffy old track...love it

Use your GPS at the 2 mile marker to put you within 20 feet of the 1 mile marker. You should be able to find the spot where the 1 marker was.
Train in the Jungle i love it. Nice video.
That was a fun video as I enjoy exploring old tracks that hopefully will be put back into service.
Fine looking road!
and a smooth ride
Parabéns pelo vídeo e saudações do Professor Franquêta de Sergipe no Brasil
👍👍👍 awesome video! Thank you! I really enjoyed it
Great video y'all.
Love seeing old lines being revived !
Looks like they got a little brave on the way back with speed.
I was visiting my sis in Middletown in 2018 and we went on the Rail Explorers trip. We passed the loco used in this film on the way so I stopped to get a photo.
Video brought back good memories of the OCNRR.
That’s very cool to watch. Love that loco
Now them boys went for a ride!
A double thumbs up job well done you guys keep up the good work and be safe
Nice old Dinky !!
Cummins powered ??
Inquiring minds want to know...
That is one raggedy ass train and track!
That old diesel is so cool .
I wish everyone well on this project... Lots of work to do 🙂👍

some bravery there......as I would be worried about grounding that grunt
that is a light loco, run a SW9 down the once, it will take 3 days to return.
Looks like Mike as there Ginter and Jachk and Everett
What would have been the reason for all the ballast dumps along the way ?
Tie work from years ago. The contractor never tamped it in and under the ties, just dumped on top.
Are there going to be active customers on the line?
No, tourist only
@@SouthCoastRailVideos ah
really surprising on the lack of passenger trains in America its so common around the rest of the world
Where is this crossing.
Looks sketchy as all get out! Not very many spikes at all holding those rails in place! And a LOT of ROTTEN ties! Those guys really did a good job getting there and back!
There’s plenty of spikes and the track is class 1 standard, just some overgrowth.
What will be the revenue source for this section of line? What makes it worthwhile?
Tourists
Hope they ran a high railer down that track to inspect it before they ran the train there.
There seems to be some industry in the area, maybe some of these businesses would be interested in shipping/receiving by rail!!

44 tonner?
@@joshbenton4080 Very sad to hear but thanks for the information.
Why?
You guys still running down there? Keep the line open! Running a RDC for one hour is on my bucket list. How about it ?
George Kenson

Where did the locomotive come from?
What's the locomotive? Initially I thought it might be a 45 ton GE center cab but it appears to be something else. Porter maybe?
Porter 50T
@@SouthCoastRailVideos Any idea what engines are in it?

Will there be any revenue from this line or is it tourist?
Tourist revenue
I believe correct spelling is "Admiral Kalbfus".
Looks good, Do you work out here?
Are all these short lines actually working or just running units to make news
Obviously running to make news and burning expensive fuel for no reason
To bad.
Do you think if you guys were listening to a radio maybe you would have known that those guys were down there working
We knew they were there and only had to go as far as we did in the video. The guy talking in the video was joking.
Did you find Milpost #1?
Unfortunately no, we think it was buried in a rubble pile
What kind of locomotive?
Porter 50T
Neato. But is this isolated tourist rail line with not so memorable scenery making enough money running once a year to sustain itself?
I took a look at maps. It actually runs beautifully next to the the bay through Portsmouth. Sad, you can see where they tore up the rail which went all the way to a Providence I believe. But I think it will be popular. Really nice views will be had. (Just not this ride lol )

*STOP* the maniacal zooming in and out! It's like being in a 'Nor'eastah!
