i wonder if because tenzin is too involved or concerned with his family that he is tethered to the material /physical world. i noticed those who could enter the spirit world at will didn't really have an earthly tether. monks lived as monks but when i see tenzin he is grounded by family
I think he also has too much pressure on him to maintain the future of the airbenders, rather than just being able to be a monk He has a lot of responsibilities within the city and to the avatar, and as you said his family
I love Tenzin but he is also very rigid. They even made a point of mentioning his schedule that he basically made Korra memorize. He thought that the location, rituals, music/bells etc would be what could help them instead of admitting he didn’t know and looking within or reaching out to find the answer
As disappointed as Tenzin might feel, and I’m not sure he ever realized it, he does have a pretty Avatar like approach to his life, at least according to what Yang Chen told Aang. His own spiritual needs are in a poor state to keep the world in balance.
To be fair on Lins personality. She really didn't get that close with them during the first book, she was only really close to Tenzin & Korra and it took more than half the season for her to even warm up to being around Korra. The part of her going to save korra was just a cherry on top to her real mission, which was to save her fellow metal bending police officers. If anything she is sticking to her guns with her way of treating people, she didn't let korra title sway her when they first met with title and status so why would that personality trait not carry over to her other relationships, exp, Mako. Theyre coworkers at this point with Lin being his boss, they don't have near the same relationship as before hand or what she has with korra or tenzin.
Unalok can presumably enter the spirit world in the spirit, just like Korra and Enora did here. So he's communicated with Vatu that way. The portals are only needed to enter it in the flesh.
i dont think it was explained how vaatu contacted with Unalaq (or vice versa), but at least to me, as the harmonic conversion came closer (with closer i mean 30 years or so, which is nothing compared to 10 thousand years) the bonds that keep Vaatu locked got weaker and he contacted with a young and probably good Unalaq through his dreams and slowly changed his thoughts with sweet words and half-truths.
Of course, probably also appealed to his vanity, saying that if he do as he says, he would be a beacon of light throughout the world and the whole world would honor him, of course his same tricks like he did to Wan, pleading to him to help him get free of Raava, sounding like a downtrodden innocent being builled by the "mean, confining, controlling" Raava, lol, Palpatine must have taken notes on Vaatu's methods, lol (just kidding).
I'm one of those people who's not a fan of The Legend of Korra the first time i watched it... But watching it again with you guys, kinda make me understand why they chose the story to go this way. The one thing that i was troubled with TLOK is probably the pacing, but i kind of understand now lol. And one thing that i like the most about TLOK is even tho on the ATLA they also covered mature topics, but TLOK really not shy away from it.
Remember how Air benders were described very Free spirit, and Jokers .. Tenzin is just not .. He let's the expectation people have on him cloud his mind.
I think I remember Aang or someone from ATLA saying that the Lion Turtles were hunted to near extinction by Man. That’s got to suck if you were this ancient being and took early man into your protection, just to have them hunt you down….
I know you guys were already past this when I made my comment on lin in the last episode, but I'll say it again anyways. Lin is a hard ass who for some reason doesn't have the capability to hold the type of relationship you guys were referencing. She's more of a "what have you done for me latley?" Kind of gal. Which season 3 will definitely show more of
I was too pissed with Linn when I watched Book 2. But there are reasons why she is like this, and you will have your answers. About Unalaq: he's my least favorite villain form the entire Avatar Universe. Disgusting, evil tricky piece of sh*t xD
aye and just as hilarious that he's the one saying it when he's the one in the wrong he tries to save face with his ego by pointing out he said it in past tense, but that's not what the issue was... "we had no idea what it was about" past tense, suggesting they didn't understand what they were seeing at the time of watching "we had no idea what it was going to be about" also past tense and how one would properly say they didn't know what they'd be watching (Pudgey knows English better)
Yeah the thing behind Lin is that the actress wasn’t available for most of book 2 so they had to make Lin take some stupid pills to keep her out of the plot. This definitely could’ve been done a bit better but honestly that’s my only gripe with the season’s continuation of previous characters. And even that was really out of their hands. They only had the actress to record a few lines.
Once you guys finish the series, you should look up how many celebrities were voices in characters in aang's timeline and korra's time-line 😅 I just looked it up just now and I'm happy lol 😂 ❤
I think Unalaq was always devious and willing to use his spiritual aptitude to get ahead, like he did when he got Tonraq banished, but I wonder if he went off the deepend when his wife died and was corrupted by Vaatu then. The show never tells us anything about her but that could explain his coldness toward his children
I cannot remember if this comes up later or not, but I think it is just as possible that Vatu managed to contact Una'lok. Vatu has promised Una'lok power in return for helping Vatu escape and Una'lok does not really understand what he is getting in to.
This season did have me feeling pretty bad for Mako and empathizing with him a lot. He was trying his best to be a good officer and a good boyfriend and he kinda got shafted. I do enjoy the Tenzin character growth though. Great character. His dynamic with Korra, and dynamic with his family are both enjoyable to watch.
I feel like you guys are way too hard on Lyn. She is the chief of police, she has certain duties and responsibilities that go beyond her liking and friendship of Korra and Mako. Anyway, things get better over time
I think that for the narrative of the story, Lin had to break character... But I think an easy fix would be if Saikon from book 1 was still chief of police and Lin was in retirement or something...
