During these difficult times, I'm taking great comfort in your hiking adventure. It's truly heartwarming to see a friendship built on respect, kindness, and a love of nature. So sweet to see Keiji holding hands with Jera and Yoshio. Thanks for sharing with us.
Those 2 old gentlemen are very impressive, and of course Keji is also doing a great job. Thanks for showing us the "real" Japan outside the tourist spots 👍
I brushed through it earlier. Time constraints but I just had to come back to it and finished it. It’s incredible, humanly and satisfying, if you love adventure hiking so to say. I do😀, thanks for taking us with you, keep it up Dean👌🏽👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you for sharing your hiking trip with us. My husband and I used to go hiking. I hope my 7-year old son is as strong as Keiji! Also, I can see how greatly you cherish your friendship with Horikawa-san. Hope to see more videos from you. ありがとうございます♪
@@runAwayJapan In 1985/86 I was stationed at Kadena Air Force Base, Okinawa Japan. I miss Japan but because of people like you and John, I can experience Japan again. I was young back then and I did not know how lucky I was to be in the Air Force and to live in Japan. It was my first duty station. It is good to see you. You do a great job on the video. Thanks again.
Horikawa-san & Jera are inspiring! Keiji, I love the little treasures you found along the way during your adventure! Dean, the magical places you take us to on your journeys brings so much joy.
I remember the episode well. Yoshio-san was coming down the mountain. I’m glad you kept contact with him. I met a French girl and we had lunch together.
This was really off the beaten path. I loved that shot of the four of you reaching the overlook of the valley where the Emperor once stood. Keiji did such an admirable job on the trail. Can't wait for part 3! 👍😀
Thanks, Jason 😁 That lookout (Shogunzuka) I didn't know anything about, or even expect it on the trail. It was beautiful but it was really later learning about the emperor and the discovery of the land, that really made it so epic! 😃
Thanks Peter. I think most of the Kyoto trail could be done by amateurs with a bit of prep and some sustained effort. The trails are well marked and maintained and you can take on the trail in small sections half a day at a time.
Seeing you hiking with your son reminds me of when my dad used to do the same with my sisters and me. I've been trying to get back in shape, hopefully I will one day be as fit as those two handsome gentlemen, Jera and Yoshio.
If Yoshio and Jera are 62 and 61 years old, Keiji must be at least 12 - he's so capable and witty. Enjoyable hike in excellent hiking weather. Nice editing, Dean!
The camera really never gives true justice to Fushimi Inari (good effort though!) it's literally breath-taking in person. There are normally thousands of people there every day, so it's really difficult to get a clear picture of the gates. Except nowadays of course :) Well done on the hike, looks great fun.
Thanks Robb. I have had friends head there at first light to try and get some great photography. I've always had to share the experience with a few hundred others 😅
You're so lucky to visit the Fushimi Inari Shrine when there are so few tourists. When I visited it, I could hardly move because of the crowds. I would love to do this trail! Beautiful views! As an aside, was there a fifth person following you taking videos?
You know, it was busy enough for me even NOW. I'm not sure I would like it much at peak season, BUT, it's nice to know that 90% of visitors will not go deep into the trail, and I encourage that anyone else would. That's where you'll feel the atmosphere more and maybe get that amazing Insta shot 😂 Also well done for being the first person to notice there was in fact a cameraman this time. Hence the production value increase and extra shoot being possible.
Yoshio-san set a brisk pace early, but I still felt a pang at the end when he was getting overly tired. Did you have a camera person with you, too? It seemed like there were several shots with all 4 of you in it.
Yeah, Yoshio feels those uphills now, but he never stopped. Total trooper 😃 There was a cameraman also, we needed him this time for the higher production value and extra shots 😊

Thanks so much, Yoshiko-san 😊
Enjoying this series
Thanks Ninja Monkey! 😁
Enjoying this series very much Dean! Thanks!
So glad to hear it! Very motivating! 😊

Thanks for watching, Corikra! I will try and continue to bring content showing a side of Japan they haven't seen yet 😊
Thank you👍👍
Thanks for watching ASMR 😊
Thank you for the video. So important to see positive humans. Wish I could be there with you all. What a great kid!
Thanks, Janet! I think we can get a lot of good vibes from Yoshio and Jera...and of course Keiji 😄
Even though I’m too crippled to do this walk myself, I love watching these hikes. Thank you for the content everyone! 🙏
Glad that you could enjoy it aag24. We are happy being able to walk these for anyone that can’t 😊
15:21 I love how both ojii-sans dote on keiji-kun. That's so sweet.
It's mutual 😍

Please look forward to family hikes. I think it's great for the kids.
I am hoping Yoshio-san will be back on the channel too 😀
Wow! Kudos to all 4 of you! Got exhausted just watching. Thanks again, Dean and Keiji!
Thanks for the comment, Janet. Biggest climb comes in part 3, so make sure your sitting down 😂
@@runAwayJapan lol I will be.
Wow I've been to Inari Shrine twice and I had no idea about the Kyoto trail!
That's how I felt when I was first told about the trail from Yoshio-san! Kyoto city need to promote this far more!
can't wait for the part 3
Thanks bb2! 😁Around the middle of next week you will have it!
I just saw you on John's channel, Only in Japan. Good to see you. Domo!!!!
Welcome, Alan! Hope you enjoy some of the stuff I have made here too! 😁DOMO!

Hi Lily! Thanks so much for the comment 😊
Again a great video! Thanks a lot for sharing :)
Thanks JHT 😁
Beautiful trail. Onigiri and Matcha for lunch!!! This trail reminded me of the trail I took in Kumamoto Kodo. It was so steep in a couple of spots
Actually where I met Yoshio was a part of the Kumano Kodo routes. Surely I will have to return and do more in Wakayama soon 😃

Keiji is the happiest little guy, at least on camera. 😇
Nice hike! Not for weak! Thanks for sharing!

I think if anything or anyone would inspire us to get in our best shape, it would be these 2 legends 😍
If Yoshio and Jera are 62 and 61 years old, Keiji must be at least 12 - he's so capable and witty. Enjoyable hike in excellent hiking weather. Nice editing, Dean!
Thanks Kerry, I do love seeing Keiji being a real 'boy' picking up acorns and jumping along the trail with his stick. I sometimes forget he's 7 ha ha
these are amazing. Saw you on John's channel
Thanks Brian for coming across and taking a look! 😁

I almost got lost on Kyoto Trail at night after climbing to the shrine
Glad you didn't! There's a lot of trail up there in the mountains!
Where can l buy a map for the Kyoto Trail? Do they sell them at the tourist information office in Kyoto?
Hi FoodzizzaXL, you can get a trail map from any of these locations...
