- Hi,
Thanks for taking the time to check out my latest vlog. Your support is greatly appreciated, thank you.
My friend Steph and I take a trip over to South Derbyshire to explore Anchor Church Cave next to the River Trent. Do check out Steph's channel here: Steph's Channel: Endurance Adventures: / @endurance-adventures
We parked up outside The Swan pub in the small hamlet of Milton (plenty of free on-road parking). The pub is well worth a visit; that serves food and has a lovely pub garden with a children's play area.
www.theswanmil...
We followed the local footpaths towards St. Saviour's Church and stopped by to have a look around. For more information, see link: thevillagenews...
From here, we joined a track leading onto grassy fields towards the River Trent. Soon enough, we found Anchor Church Caves. The footpath was accessible but overgrown in parts with nettles. **Please note this footpath is not accessible after or during heavy rain; the footpath can be dangerous when the river busts its banks. Ideally, visiting in summer in good weather is the best and safest time. Here is the location on Google Maps: goo.gl/maps/75...
The shortest route to Anchor Church is parking from the hamlet of Ingleby, approx 1 mile. Parking is limited in this hamlet. There is a small layby (approx 3/4 cars only). Google Maps layby location is approx here: goo.gl/maps/Au.... There is a pub in Ingleby, but the car park is gated and isn't always open when the pub is closed. We started from Milton and took about 45 minutes to walk across.
Alternatively, if you fancy a longer walk, park in Repton and enjoy a countryside ramble as well. The footpaths are easy to follow but overgrown in places.
If you require more information, please do get in touch and drop me a message on Instagram.

Thanks for visiting 😁
Oh that looks like a super interesting place to visit ! Great recommendation for hike 😊
Thanks 😊 This was a fairly local location and easy for me to drive too.
Love the church, wow those caves look amazing. I hate that when people leave their rubbish, love your backpack . Yes I got those bans not that good , love having a nice beer on a hot day. Love your light , that is so good of you both to do that I wish everyone was like you as you said it don’t take much to pick it up take care debs x
Hi Debs, can’t believe I didn’t pack a beverage lol! Nevermind, will do next time. Yes it was fun adventure, even the litter pick bit. Thanks for watching. X
Great film, Rachel. Thanks to you and Steph for clearing up the cave, but so infuriating it was necessary. Such an interesting and special place.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks Sue xx
Fantastic caves. Interesting place t visit. Thanks for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for stopping by 😃
I camped there a few years ago. And the scenery was wonderful. Me and my mate also decided not to camp in the cave as there was strange people in the area.
Hi,
it’s a curious little place isn’t it ☺️ Definitely worth a visit. We camped not to far away from the cave but out of sight. Thanks for watching xx
Great stuff. So nice around there. Awesome
wild camp too. Steph - pot noodles = food of the gods 😀
Steph, she knows how it’s done lol! Probably tasted better than my adventure food meal. 😄
That cave looks amazing...must check it out sometime....well done on cleaning the place up.
Thanks for watching Steve, it is worth visiting. I’d recommend including a trip into Repton as well, make a day of it. 😌
That sun seems to be following you lately and what a dam shame about the mess and smell left at such a beautiful and historical place - makes my blood boil! It looms like yo made a good choice on where to camp, very stealthy but also very buggy too. I hate packing a camping pack, so having to unpack it after packing it, to get to a misbehaving air pump would drive me bananas. You should not have had to do it but well done to you both for clearing up that rubbish, you both deserve a medal! cheers Alan
I haven’t been lucky with the sunshine recently, let’s hope it stays that way. Thanks for watching Alan. X
Hi Rachel, really enjoyed the walk. The annoying thing about litter louts is that its never the people who watch these videos because we just love the outdoors and wouldn’t disrespect it. It’s people who just don’t care isn’t it? Anyway, lovely walk thank you for sharing 👍🏻
Hi Claire ☺️ Yes the rubbish is annoying, I wish people wouldn’t do it 😟
It was a lovely little micro adventure, the wild camp was fun. Thanks for watching. Have a great week. All the best. 🤩
Nice video Rachel. Nice day for hiking 👍 Wishing you all the best.
Thanks so much! 😊
I love it❤
Thanks 😊
Watched this a week ago and my comment seems to have vanished! Never tire of seeing you in the overgrown areas, always keeps me calm when i have to go through them thinking of you! The Hermitage is a great looking place! Yikes public urinal and rubbish, what a shame. Some of the popular walks around here now have worthless tags on them too, its very upsetting to see. A very respectful wild camp. Hope this comment sticks!
Hi, yes it’s strange when comments do disappear for no reason. That’s happened to me a few times too. Thanks for stopping by again ☺️
Hi Rachel. Great little spot apart from the bugs! Hope the bands worked OK! 😁 The caves looked really interesting. Such a shame people can't respect places like that 🙁 All the best and take care👍☺
Thanks so much! 😊I do like this location, a personal favourite. X
A great video of a great adventure! And a diet of beer and pot noodles! 😀
Haha diet of champions lol! Still waiting for the chips 🤩
@@ramblingracheltrailtales next week for sure!! 👍
You mentioned about it not being accessible when its rained, the only time i tried to go there it was all flooded and not passable. I still uploaded ghe video on my channel but it was sad times!
Thanks for the video 😊
Hi Dan. I’ve been to Anchor Church a few times before, once after heavy rain and it was treacherous. I remember watching your video on this one. I’d definitely check it out in the nicer weather, before the footpath is completely lost to the river through erosion.
Hi Rachel,
A big well done from me as well for going back and doing a litter pick. I used to run a conservation group, when we did litter picks local residents used to comment that after we’d been the place would stay clean for ages but as soon as the first few bits of rubbish appear it soon goes downhill. So, keep up the good work and look forward to the next adventure.
Cheers
Graham
Hi Graham, thanks for stopping by. Rubbish and littering really annoys me, because it’s so unnecessary. However, it is rewarding knowing you’ve made a tiny impact by cleaning a place up. Have a great week 😀
Great adventure, thanks for taking us back to a great location. Well done on the litter pick too 👍
Thanks 👍 It was a good mini adventure. We managed to do quite a lot in a short space of time, including a visit to Repton which I didn’t recorded x
Hey Rach great camp, I’ve got that same quilt, I use it as my summer one lol
Shame about all the litter, unfortunately it’s just everywhere,
Catch you on the next one matey
Cheers Alan, the ice flame is good value for money and has served me well, super light weight too. Yep, rubbish is a big problem in this country’s beauty spots 😔

Thanks Bulldog. I hope you’ve had a good weekend 😎
Absolutely breathtaking and quite literally! What an stunning experience, and filmed so perfectly that I could almost feel vertigo. Bravo my friend!
Thanks for commenting, glad you enjoyed the vid. 😎
Hi Rachel, what a lovely walk to the cave. Such a shame people leave their rubbish inside. Looks like you had a nice camp. Take care x Julie and Tony x
We had perfect weather for a camp, can’t complain 😎
Great Content. Thank you for sharing. have a good day!❤👍
Thank you! You too! 😎
Rachel this looks amazing but I can't watch it properly as we are out camping with limited signal and data. I'll catch when home but leaving a like in advance as I know I'll like it 😃👍~ Anna
Ohhh camping adventures, that sounds good to me. Enjoy your time away. X
Sending my support
Hi ya, how’s it going? I hope you have had a good weekend. 😎
Lovely to see you back at Anchor Church cave Rachel! Glad Steph enjoyed her camp there with you too. I do get very annoyed when I see litter left by inconsiderate people as there's just no need for it, and I'm sorry it was left to you both to clear it all up. Well done for doing so all the same, you definitely earned your Brownie points! Thanks for the mention by the way and thanks for sharing! 😀👍
Thanks Patrick. I’ve visited Anchor Church about five times now. I really like it apart from the mess others leave behind. It’s a nice quiet part of Derbyshire, often over looked.
Thanks for watching. Have a good weekend. X
That’s an amazing place Rachel. I’ve never seen this before. An amazing historical site - just left to the idiots to destroy 😨. Dreadful shame.
You would have thought that the local authority could make that a tourist location - it seems really special.
Anyway, great message well said.
What a great campsite and a stunning Sunrise.
Really enjoyed this one - and I couldn’t help 🤣🤣 at the air pump
Have a brilliant week ahead.
I don’t think Anchor Church is particularly that well known because it’s not in the Peak District or the Derbyshire Dales. It’s a great hidden gem 💎
What a view... Cool 👍
Thanks for visiting, glad you enjoyed the video. x
Thank you very much Rachel love the video keep em coming
Thank you! Will do! 😁
great video, love the caves :) shame about the people leaving all that mess
Yes I agree, sadly I see to much of it, but at least we tried to make it a bit nicer. It probably won’t stay that way for long. Thanks for watching.
Another great wildcamp Rachel & Steph. It is such a shame that thoughtless individuals think it ok to do thst. Thank you both for clearing that up. You shouldn't have to, but thank you. Great vlog, as always. Thanks for sharing, and I've subbed to Steph, too.
Thanks Chris - that’s great
We agree! Sadly there’s a lot of inconsiderate people out there 😔 I usually have a bin bag on me, in case it rains and need to store wet clothes away from my dry stuff. For once, it came in hand.
Thanks for watching and checking out Steph’s channel too. 😎
Nice trip. I’ve got some neat devices which blow up my sleep mat and deflates it. (With a low tech pump sack) They’re called hands! Plus they don’t go off in my bag🤣🤣🤣And as for the remote for the tent light. Blinking ‘eck I’ve enough remotes at home and I’d just lose it in the tent. I use an Alpkit Cloud nine quilt in summer which is not cheap but very warm for its weight. You’ve got a nice manner on camera. Hope you don’t mind being teased. 😁
Hi there ☺️ Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I really like the flexitail pump. It saves my poor old asthmatic lungs a job! 🤩
@@ramblingracheltrailtales Yeah my mrs has asthma so I get it. Nice on kid. Hoping to do a camp high in the dales Tuesday. Weather has been wild and extremely wet on the high hills lately. Atb
What a great cave! Well done and thank you for clearing the rubbish away, it's such a shame people have such a lack of respect to our natural surroundings 😔 Anyway, great video ❤
Glad you enjoyed, it was an enjoyable mini adventure. It’s nice to explore other parts of Derbyshire, the less well known side.
I love your videos I sub on you guys❤
Thanks for your support 😎
only 10-15 mins from me ha! ive been round near there but never thought of camping there !
There’s quite a few spots to pitch up near Anchor Church. If you don’t mind long grass or being under the East Midlands Airport flight path. I didn’t realise that until it was too late. 😳
@ramblingracheluk oh mean I work at the airport haha so it don't bother me😂😂
Is it peaceful wild camping there
It is underneath the East Midlands airport flight path. But it wasn’t very noisey. We camped in a field about 2 minutes from the cave.
Had to watch as its just down the road from me. Thought about camping there few times but never have for the same reason you didn't! Summer bag I'd recommend the decathlon forclaz trek 900. It does me for 3 seasons. Cracking sleeping bag, I prefer it to my rab 😉
Every time I find an interesting cave, it’s usually swamped with rubbish. Had a similar experience at Reynard’s Cave between Dove Dale and Mill Dale a few years ago, what I found there was worse! ☹️
I’ll check out the recommendation too, thank you 😊
Lovely vid keep it up you make a better vid than geek
Thanks for watching. I watch a lot of outdoors content on this platform, I appreciate the different styles and editing others use. I enjoy following other people’s adventures and am grateful when others show an interest in mine.
