"The first time I ever really listened to Kyle Kulinski’s show was in the back of a cab last summer. The driver had his phone hooked up through the stereo and was pumping out an episode through the car speakers - loudly, as if looking to convert a captive audience.
“Do you like Kyle Kulinski?”
The driver, Ahmed, was a recent immigrant and apparently a die-hard fan of Secular Talk, the political talk show that Kulinski broadcasts on UA-cam. I told him, yes, in fact. I do like Kulinski, had come across his show several years ago, and, all things considered, he seemed pretty good.
“He understands what we’re up against,” Ahmed said. “Like Bernie.”
But I was surprised to hear Kulinski’s name mentioned in the same breath as Bernie Sanders, particularly with such adoration. Because what I did remember about Kulinski’s show struck me as mostly capital-P “progressive” takes on the news - the left wing of the Netroots crowd more than the democratic socialism Sanders has popularized.
It’s an impression that wasn’t entirely incorrect.
“I have no time for philosophical, airy bullshit,” Kulinski tells me from his home in Westchester, New York. “I don’t want to hear about Lenin. I don’t want to hear about Marx. I just want a super plainspoken, straightforward agenda with a straightforward way of selling it.”
With over 800,000 subscribers and nearly 670 million total views on UA-cam, selling a progressive agenda is clearly something Kulinski knows how to do - even Democracy Now, the long-standing flagship of progressive media, cannot match his reach on the platform. Chapo Trap House can certainly boast a wildly devoted fan base (and a not insignificant degree of media influence), but their audience is roughly half the size of Kulinski’s.
While Secular Talk might be more likely to be looped in with the progressive networks around Air America and Pacifica alums like Sam Seder than the more resolutely socialist world, Kulinski’s fiery rhetoric, razor-sharp class instincts, and knack for withering takedowns sets him apart from his peers. Judging by his rhetoric alone, he’s closer to a Eugene Debs than a Chris Hayes.
But unlike Hayes, Amy Goodman, or his friend Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks - who began airing Secular Talk on his web network seven years ago - the thirty-two-year-old Kulinski is virtually invisible in the mainstream media. Despite his enormous fan base, his show has never once been mentioned in the obligatory trend pieces on “the Millennial Left” pumped out by the prestige media. Nor has Kulinski’s name ever popped up at all in the New York Times, Vox, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, or the Washington Post, despite his leading role in cofounding Justice Democrats, the organization widely credited with sweeping Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of “the Squad” to power.
Just last week, his Wikipedia page was deleted. The reason? “There is very simply no [reliable source] coverage of this person,” according to one moderator. In new media, he’s king - the Sean Hannity of the Berniecrat left. In old media, he’s nobody.
I suspect there are a few reasons for that. There is nothing “cool” about Kulinski’s show. (As a friend put it, “‘Welcome to Secular Talk’ sounds like something you’d hear on Egyptian radio.”) His no-nonsense social-democratic politics won’t get him much cred with the Full Communism crowd. He records his show not in Brooklyn or Los Angeles, but in a studio he built himself in his modest Westchester home. His hair is too groomed and his taste in clothes too preppy to qualify as “Dirtbag Left.” Nor has he ever attended an n+1 release party. “Not only have I not attended one,” he says, “I have no idea what that means.”
And yet he’s astonishingly plugged-in for a young man in the suburbs. Wondering how Sanders ended up on the Joe Rogan Experience? Kulinski, a frequent guest on Rogan’s wildly popular show, introduced them. “You make the most sense to me,” Rogan told Kulinski on a recent episode. “You’re a normal person.”
Much like Sanders himself, Kulinski’s show has a massive audience that just doesn’t compute with our media’s understanding of “what the kids want” or even “what the left-wing kids want.”
It’s probably for the best - the very woke and very WASP-ish decorum haunting much of the media world is nowhere to be found in Secular Talk. “Corporate Democrats over-focus on identity as a trick to divert you from the issues that unite us all - class issues,” he said on a recent episode.

Kyle, I found your channel about 2 months ago for the first time. I have watched it almost every day since then. I am from Croatia, and I appreciate your insights about Gaza. People in Croatia mostly don't speak about it. There were two small protests. Unfortunately, I just found out that the tragedy of Gaza is going to be used for the propaganda of some extreme lefities here (we had a terrible war here 30 years ago while we were breaking out from the socialistic/communistic system and the domination of one nationality of ex-Yugoslavia, on purpose I don't mention the nationality which was superior and which used Yugoslav "common" army for aggression to Croatia because I don't want to provoke a battle-field again, here, in this virtual space). We had about 15 000 dead, including women and children, the complete town of Vukovar was flattened, civilians and wounded from the Vukovar hospital killed in mass graves, they were singing (it is recorded): "There will be (fresh) meat, we are going to slaughter the Croats..."; it was a terrible time for us, the number of the victims of the war I just mentioned is referring to the period of 5 years, not so many dead people from one day to another, although at the beginning it was from one day to another.
I see that you determine your political views as left oriented, some time ago if I had to, I would say that I was oriented from the center to the right (we have many parties, not only two, so there is not only left and right), but now I can't tell if I am leftie or rightie any more, I feel I am neither of that because they always put the high walls to the "other side", and in the same time they are mixing it all up just to gain the popularity and new votes; but in the questions of Gaza I support the thoughts, insights and approaches (mostly or partly) of Norman Finkelstein, Bassem Youssef, Gabor Mate and some more, I watch Democracy Now, Breaking Points, your channel... I feel helpless and sad beyond the words about the situation in Gaza. I have known for some time, for approximately 15-20 years, that the situation there is not good, but I never took a closer look. Yes, I feel sorry about it (that I never did), but as Norman Fineklstein said, in 2020 he gave up on Gaza because he came to the point to "move on with his life" because "nothing could be done" (in his interview with Piers Morgan). Maybe it was better for me to be living in ignorance for all this time... hard to say what is "better" in this terribly sad and unsustainable case.
Ok, on one hand it is all so complicated because of all those manipulations, complete misconceptions and lies you are just talking about in this video. On the other hand, it is very simple: PERMANENT CEASEFIRE RIGHT NOW. The state of Israel must be stopped immediately in its genocidal crimes against children and all others in Gaza. But the US is putting veto on the resolution of the UN! Why don't you go to the streets in bigger numbers to raise your voice against that madness? For more than 9000 children it is too late. Even for those with lifetime injuries, there are more than a thousand with amputation; but for ALL those children life is going to be very hard after all they see and feel right now. But the aggressor and its supporters are telling us they are going to continue... Do you think there should be more protests? What can be done? I know that you are not here as an activist, but as a commentator, and it is ok, but - as I can see - we have no other way but to raise our voices, what else to do... tell me, if anyone knows.

Hey, as a fellow Croat who's lived in the States for about 30 years now, I can at least answer the "why don't people take to the streets" question. (doubt Kyle will ever see your message, but at least I can "reward" your post with a bit of insight from these lands). A few bigger points:
1) People are protested out - problems of this country, or the world, are numerous. I can't tell you now many protests there have been across America or in DC (where I live). Protest for climate change, women's rights, Black Lives Matter, against Gun violence, etc, etc. It's impossible to go them all. Organizing them is a gamble, since there are so many of them. People just... can't anymore. (see next point)
2) Protests seems to be ineffective - if protests were rewarded with a change of policy, or some positive outcome, yeah, well, there would be fewer and fewer to go to, and also you'd feel like you can (again) accomplish something by going to them. But nothing seems to happen. Nothing relevant has happened on any of those issues, and if anything, we're back-sliding on them. Climate change prognosis is getting worse and our actions fewer, abortion availability is getting smaller by the day, guns are sold by the ton still, amid another record year of mass shootings... it seems pointless. Politicians don't listen. You know the expression "body politic"? Well, this body is so backed up with laws that need to be passed, it's about ready to die. There are things that help (like state referendums), but those are so few and far between.
3) There may be actual consequences for speaking now - earliest supporters of cease-fire (progressive dems and, as you can see in this video, students) were viciously smeared as anti-semites. This video might have mentioned it, but Republicans tried to pass a law (or are still trying) to label anti-zionism as anti-semitism (so that ANY criticism of the State of Israel can get you in trouble). There are news on a daily basis of people with pretty influential jobs getting fired for pro-Palestinian messaging. Given the ineffectiveness of protesting, or speaking, or - god help you - leaving social media opinions - who wants to risk it?
4) All mainstream media is shit on this issue. The papers refuse to call it a genocide, or war crimes, or whatever legal definitions fit, and so do the newspapers of record, etc, etc. Kyle, to his credit, is the clearest and most honest voice on this I see in the US. People are just tuned out anymore, after decades of stupid, pointless infighting about made up issues, like war on Christmas. Why should people care about faraway lands when Fox News tells them there are babies dismembered live in the US every day? (they're not, but the Bullshit Mountain never ceases to operate).
So anyway, hope that helps a bit. Even if it's not particularly positive.

Yes, I know there are too many protests and public "actions", even in Croatia on the squares, especially on weekends there is almost always some "action" about some issue, and often more than one. We don't have too many protests here, but now and then we have.
Yes, the mainstream media is trying to completely shut it down (the news about Gaza). In the days of terrible bombardments there were hardly 30 sec of the news in prime time on every television with national concession. And they would regularly mention October 7th and how Israel is defending itself. At the very end they would eventually mention the lack of food or water, and very rarely they would show, about 2-3 sec, some scenes from Gaza. It would always be very very sad scenes even if they would try to put something not too disturbing. Yesterday for the first time I heard on one TV-station, in prime time, this sentence (it is not a quote, I paraphrase as I remember): Israel is losing their partners and support in its bombardments of Gaza. (Something like that.) It wasn't our public national TV but the private one (Nova TV). I was deeply surprised to hear that, it was the first time in 60+ days that they mentioned something "negative" about Israel.
I agree with all you are saying about so-called "political correctness" and auto censorship. The same is here, about almost all issues. Also, a huge problem is that there is no OPEN & HONEST discussion. They talk a lot, but it is mostly blablabla... Even if they invite someone worth listening (I don't have to even like his or her opinions or statements, I may not be agreeable with him/her, but I can say that he/she is good enough to be listened), then they also bring into conversation a few complete fools so in all that mix you hear nothing because the strong/smarth one has nobody to really talk to. Those public conversations are very often bellow the minimum of quality. And I find it terrible. I mean, we have a democracy now, but there is no quality of the talks, it is all empty and - let's say - generic; no authenticity. I find it frightening. And that's how it is with Gaza. People don't hear those suffering, those cries for help. And we had the same thing 30 (+) years ago, we were crying for help, so I can not understand how it could be so fast forgotten how it was.
One guy here calls it "spiritual laziness". I don't know if it's his term, or global term, and it doesn't matter, it is pretty good. Spiritual laziness includes some kind of dying inside, and also - it is not incomprehensible - because, as you mentioned about the protests - there are *too many of everything*, our focus is jumping from one thing to another, we are overwhelmed with information, some of them (or most of them) are totally useless and even ugly (not worthy), or stupid etc., but we are some kind of target, they are coming from one moment to another and hitting us, we must find the way to protect ourselves, otherwise we are done, exhausted, we don't have strength to sincerely feel anything, we can not difference what is important and what isn't, and that's one of the reason why we don't have capacity for compassion with Gaza, we don't have a time for Gaza, and maybe in the future someone will ask: How could you let it happen?? - The same as we ask for Holocaust. As I can see it is alway the same, no evolution, emotionally and spiritually, when you watch humanity in total. Or maybe there is (some evolution, rising up slowly), but it is still not notable.

And about Kyle, I didn't even have it in my last thought that he would see it, but it was easier to write when you have a person you are writing to, so I addressed him, it came spontaneously.

I actually think they answered poorly, they were trying not to take her bait, but she asked the question so blatantly they needed to respond a little bit more directly but clarify their stances and this actually amplified her tactic in a negative way.. it DOES sound antisemetic if you don’t have the context, and most people don’t..
They were trying to tiptoe around and be careful, but their long-winded answers came off as excuses rather than explanation. Someone else on another video commented that it would've been better for them to 'play along', but ultimately make the statement that "antizionism =/= antisemitism". For people with context, it was SO obvious that Stefanik was trying to get them all to say that anti-Israel protests are akin to genocidal speech and should be banned.
It was a disingenuous, loaded question and she should have called it out as such. She forgot that most people are brainwashed normies with no sense of nuance.

Kyle, I wrote a comment on David Pakman's video about this topic, basically saying what you have said in this video and it was promptly deleted. Three times. I'm really disappointed by DPaks response to this conflict. He is basically Fox News on this subject. Unbelievable.

And this is fine, but people need to know the point of view they're listening to and put him in that context. Mostly peaceful protest when liberals are rioting. Taking down statues isn’t canceled culture because it’s what liberals want. About a month and a half ago, my husband, who attends a college in New Jersey, got an email from the administration about an event where a student reported a swastika drawn on campus. After interviewing the student, who was Jewish, the student admitted to drawing it himself to increase support for Israel. 😂😂

Thank you for clarifying this. I have been scouring the web looking for the examples of direct threats and I couldn’t find any. However, people have equated the use of chants and the word “intifada” with direct calls for genocide. I disagree. It’s a stretch. And if this is the case, supporting Netanyahu and his party should be considered a threat of ethnic cleansing based on their doctrine which stated “Between the sea and the Jordan there will only be Israeli sovereignty."

Ok I believe in free speech and definitely feel like the right and many moderates are absolutely being hypocritical over this issue but once again Kyle is striking out on many of these points. First of all, yes legitimate antisemitism where Jews have been harrasesed, threatened, or attacked, has risen dramatically in this country and around the world, especially after Oct 7th, which should never be the case no matter what one's stance is on the Israel/Palestine conflict. That's also not to say that there haven't been any other forms of hatred rising as well which also matters but antisemitism can't be discounted because of that.
Also there absolutely has been calls for violence against Jews, especially on college campuses. It can be argued if it's at the level of genocide or not but when student groups chant things like "Glory to the martyrs!!" or "Intifada one solution!!" those are clearly calls for or endorsements of violence (let alone some protesters even expressing Swastikas and holding signs with 1938 Germany sentiment on them) and to hear Kyle dismiss those as lies is extremely disappointing and beneath him.

I think that these people answered extremely poorly and likely expected a more vague question, so they gave vague answers. However, she was asking them a direct question that literally asked if calling for the genocide of jews was wrong and if that violates rules and they could not simply answer yes. However, the fact of the matter is that what this woman refers to as calling for genocide of jews is, for the most part, just calling for freedom in Palestine.

I also question of the 9000 children how many were between the ages of 15-17 and how many were armed and engaged in actual combat?
