I don't know why, buy I really don't think cropping at the waist looks weird.
The other examples though.
I think it looks weirder to crop off the top of the hair/head that a lot of people do.

I don't like it that he said "Rules are made to be broken." That statement is a very worn-out cliche and I am tired of hearing it crowed by every photography teacher multiple times. At least he did not say zoom with your feet. That is another one I do not enjoy hearing constantly. LOL

Very nice video, I’ve been looking for one like this. Question. I notice some you’re shooting below eye level, what’s the rule? For headshots, is it better to shoot portrait or landscape? Do you generally shoot similar to how you want to crop or shoot giving you the options of crop during editing?

The image at 3:47, though it is supposed to be a "feminine" pose ended up looking pretty cool.
I have difficulty knowing how to crop a traditional headshot of a woman with a large bust, and sometimes end up with the widest area at the bottom. It’s especially difficult when clients want the subjects to take up the same space in the frame. How do you suggest handling that?
It's like you saw my recent headshots LOL
Crops that make me cringe is running the subject into the side of the image. If they looking or moving in a direction, i leave a little room instead of always centering them in the frame.
