Building a an extension on a Victorian house using specially made bricks to match. I'm just explaining at detail.#bricklaying #brickbonds #flemishbond #extension #construction
@@quollitytime8350 it's not a veneer lol. All our houses are cavity now and have been for a while. It's still set out the same and looks right it's not fake at all it's just not solid 9inch.
@@man1cs171 Modern houses don't use structural brickwork. A structural brick wall is full brick thick. Bond patterns use stretchers to engage the corners, and headers to engage the wall.
@@man1cs171 Half a brick wall is brick veneer, it is called brick veneer. It is held up by the timber frame. Its fake brick. Modern double brick is just two veneers with steel ties that will be gone in 60 - 80 years and the house needs to be rebuilt. Plenty of structural brick houses still where i live, been there for 200+ years. Proper engaged piers, not the rubbish you build today.
@@foundationgood123 they’re the only brick you can buy that are the exact size as in length as old bricks, and their ranges are a great match to the point we don’t bother with reclaimed bricks anymore
Just out of interest, how have you managed to introduce the wall ties having metric blocks against imperial bricks? Looks like the ties might be falling back !
@@martinmckay3241 A King closer is cut half way across the header to half its length ... Never seen them used in my 45 years plus as a trowel . 👍🏴
@@johnbowkett80 Agreed.. But surely the existence of such a term,(King), necessitates the use of either "King", OR "Queen", to determine which Closer is required... But yeah, never did see the call for one either
@@martinmckay3241 All I'm saying is that a true Queen closure is half of the full length of the brick used in 9 inch work . Not trying to argue with you . Your work looks bang on . 👍🏴
who ever owns that house is lucky to have found such a good builder
Thank you👍
You should explain this is fake flemish bond
Why is it fake because its 4 inch???
@@man1cs171 ALL the bonds are about bonding a full brick wall together. So yes, a half-brick veneer mimmicking a structural bond, is fake.

Longer ties, knock them down
Imperial gauge usualy is 5 course to 2 course of blocks . 👍🏴
They are 'closures'...... Not 'Queen closures' . 👍🏴
What's a KING closer then...?

Queens are very narrow??
I measured the original on the existing house of i remember they were 4.5mm
@@foundationgood123 yeah cool. Very tidy work. Just looked narrower than usual.
