- Courtsey of a few interviews with Gamesradar we now have more details on the new upcoming MMO for 2024 - Brighter Shores from Runescape Creator Andrew Gower. (I said shore, I dunno why I said Andrew Shore. My brain is broken. Thank you @Stands-In-The-Fire )
Perhaps the most surprising being that the game will allow for some automation of "boring" tasks and a less surprising but still heartening codemnation of current over-monetization of MMORPGs.

Yeah, or the odd mentality that group based MMOs are boring, but also claiming leveling is a side event to the fun stuff at max level, which is literally all grouping. It's very hard to make sense of MMO players post WoW.

Same! I'm all about combat myself, combat and exploration, but when I was younger I really liked crafting in Ultima Online. I'm wondering if this game will bring it back for me.
Somehow I feel odd about both the choice to add classes and then only releasing with 3 of them (maybe they will have ability specs/talent trees?), but at the same time, I'm super excited to be a HAMMER MAGE (!!!) main. With their name behind this, it's the most excited I've been for this genre in a while.

I'm going to need to see more of this before I can make a good judgement. I was initially excited about this, because a game made by the founders of Runescape? A game I've played off and on since I was in middle school and I'm now 36 years old.
But it does not even remotely look good right now. I hate how small the world looks, the obvious tile squares, how dumb the classes look and sound. This might just not be a game for me and that bums me out!
I really want to see more, too. I was looking at the trailers a bit more and some of them you can see there's kind of a "fog of war" thing going on with the world. There's more beyond the highlighted area but I really want to see how ot works. Luckily we won't need to wait long (or pay to try it out.)
"I'm again'st mind numbing afk things" and "I'm against automations" are two very contradicting things to say in the same minute.
Pretty sure an easy positive reframing to make is that it will offer extra freedom to do what you want to do and how you want to do it.
Obviously they're gonna make it more rewarding the more active you play.

i wonder if he decided to make a compromise when it comes to automated gathering, because they are a new company and might not be able to fight off all the bots..
Just a bit of context about about monetization is Andrew Gower and his brothers also working on the game have fuck you money and are personally funding development.
It sounds good but I have my concerns about this game TBH. So it's hard to be excited.
I can see where Andrew is coming from with the auto-play, and I do hope it is miniscule, but even if it was OP it wouldn't stop the botters from botting. That's a bit naive to think. It may make it a bit more even for the non-botters, though.
I'm pretty sure it's still gonna be a fairly grinding game, just not as much as RuneScape

u talkin bout the afk as a downside but its the premise we gotta get over it -- the game we want / desire i bet is already in the mind of Andrew and in the works in his mental thoughts. Come on now lol
i mean.. it just looks like its trying to reinvent runescape. nothing about it looks particularly striking or noticeable either the armors are just.. forgetful
and making the tiles noticeable makes it look like a gimmicky mobile game, atleast with runescape the tiles were somewhat visible by virtue of it being retro so the color gradient was fully visible, which did not take away from its intended look

Honestly, with the way things are now. I could not care less about rumors of any game. Don't care how "good" it looks. If it's not in late alpha or early Beta and has an actual release date, do not care any more.
I have been waiting for Pantheon for 10 years and after being in alpha 2-3 times now, the game sucks. sorry, unpopular opinion. don't care. The devs think dying to lev 1 mobs is fun or "hard".... it's lazy development. EQ lev 1 mobs have depth and are FUN to kill. Lev 1 mobs in pantheon half life with One hit and it's a race to the 2nd hit because one of you will die after that 2nd hit. Lame as hell.
Brighter Shores should be out this year in Q3 so sometime between July 1st and September 30th 2024.
I too don’t care about any games development or rumors. Star citizen, project titan, pantheon, EverQuest next, Wild Star, etc. they’ve all been let downs. False promises.
I too have been following Pantheon for many years. Insert I am disappoint meme. I didn’t even play season 1 even though I could have. It doesn’t look fun or remotely ready for my time.
I'd recommend giving it a shot just to see since you already have access. (I wouldn't recommend if you didnt) It might not be for you and if thats the case that'll end up being deeply dissapointing I know but at least you'd have the experience of it, you know? Or if you really want you could wait until s2 with the lighting change and a zone that I think goes into the 20s. Hit me up if you do, I'll group with ya!@@dupre7416
