One thing that really makes Lea standout among other singers is that you can tell she understands what she is singing - and from it, conveys the right emotions.
Exacly! Lea sings a song as if she is a storyteller. Others are singing as if oh hear my voice I am fabulous. Lea is soooo good here. I am sure Judy Kuhn could learn from her.
The original was recorded in an environment where the director and other heads were in control so they made adjustments to their liking and lea is projecting her own style freely so I don't blame Judy Khun.
we have the same opinion, how can she enjoy and be proud of her accomplishments if it will be given to her when she's already too old or the worst case scenario you know what i mean,,,
While I would like to agree with you, the standards for National Artists may not fit her body of work. National Artists should have a substantial contribution to the development of the country's artistic heritage in their field; in Lea Salonga's case, majority of her body of work is in international and commercial productions. Perhaps one day the guidelines may be adjusted or changed to accommodate her work.
Yep, it's pronunciation, not pronounciation. But the most glaring mistake here ay yung pagmarunong niya about "diction". The primary meaning of diction naman talaga is "choice of words", but it could also mean "articulation, accent, and intonation". So for all intents and purposes, the main commenter's choice of words (diction hehe) were A-OK. Nag-aastang genius lang kasi tong si J T, kaya hindi umuunlad ang Pilipinas 🤧
projection, diction, emotions, pronunciations, word clarity, audience impact, volume, style, tone, enunciation .... Lea has all these.. she’s a total package
Loved Vanessa Williams' smooth and warm version of the song. Lea is the skilled practitioner you need on the big stage where the audience in the rafters needs to not be forgotten.
although she had done so many musicals, I really believe that Lea is truly made for Disney. I can'tbelieve Im saying this but she sounds better than the original version. Crisp and sweet. Ahhh nostalgia...
The only way I think why Lea stands out the rest of the Broadway performers is that Lea sings all of her songs with full of genuine emotion. She wanted you to feel how every bit of lyrics, the words that coming from her mouth and the melody of the song should be sang. I am proud to say that I lived a generation with her as an amazing performer and a wonderful singer.
When I was little, I never liked Colors of The Wind. Now that I'm old enough to understand things through the surface, the song is one of the most beautiful sounds I've heard and learned so far as an adolescent.
You are still lucky you still saw her performances even here on UA-cam and she is still alive in your time. Indeed, Lea is already a Legend, from Manila to London to New York to Disney! She is that big as a singer. Such an OPM gem.
Jen Cafranca Well of course, she sang this first, she's the singing voice of Pocahontas, isn't she? Edit: nevermind, she didn't sing in the movie. 😂 But yeah, I agree.
I actually prefer Judy’s version (the original). I didn’t care for Leah’s sporadic pacing of the song. It felt sloppy and unprofessional. It was a little all over the place. It gave me tempo whiplash. Lol.
PHOENIX MINISTRY they are both great, BUT NOTHING COMPARES TO THE ORIGINAL THE FIRST JUDY HAS A BEAUTIFUL, SOTHING, SERENE VOICE THAT SOUNDS POWERFUL YET SLOW. This version was good, but it felt too fast!!! Nothing compares to the original!!!!
Haha I think it's just a different vibe, a different treatment. Lea was excellent but Vanessa Williams was too. I'll say that Lea's is more theatrical, more a storyteller's voice and that is very hard to do well but she does it.
The thing that makes her so great is that she knows what the heck she’s doing. Singers make it look so easy, but in reality, there’s so much you have to think about to keep your voice under control, healthy, and sounding smooth. It’s just like cooking, or dance, or any other type of art and she’s nailing it.
It is now a fundamental law of the universe that Lea Salonga sings any given song better than anyone else ever will. I don't make the rules, music does.
@@pauljansen6650 I agree! Lea may be better technically, but there’s something about Judy’s voice that really is so deep and powerful and I think it’s perfect for the song
