Its not surprising. SHANGHAI is always the biggest. And best. Atlases that show Beijing in larger typeface than Shanghai are totally wrong. By all means show a red square or something, but not in larger lettering. This also applies to maps of USA and Australia - which makes Canberra look like the principal city - which it is not.. The tallest building in China and in Asia (excepting the Burj) is the Shanghai Tower at 2,076 ft high
Your info on the population is incorrect. You probably got it from Western sources in Google. Just to give you an idea, Chongqing population is about 34 million. All the other 9 cities are also much higher.

You're spewing wrong information. With a population of 32 millions (based on the official data from Chinese government), Chongqing is the largest city in China. You compare Chongqing's city proper area (82,000 km2) with Beijing's (16,000 km2) and Shanghai's (6,300 km2) city proper, but you only use the population of Chongqing's center district (17 millions) to compare with the total population of Beijing's (21 millions) and Shanghai's (26 millions) entire residents. You're either biased or intentionally against the China government official census data.

Hong Kong's population is roughly 7.41 million people, not enough to be in the top 10. I live in Chengdu and have been to Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Xi'an, too. Shanghai experienced the rough shutdown in the name of COVID and many negative people were either locked into the apartment or crashed out and dragged to Fangcang Internment Camp by White-clothes Police in 2022! NEVER FORGET WHAT HAPPENED IN SHANGHAI 2022! Many people in Shanghai at that time didn't die from the virus but rather starvation without any food inside their apartment because they were not permitted to get outside!
