Because for me, a city ends geographically and politically where its borders end, or rather where the administrative borders and administration end. The largest city in the world is actually Chongqing (China) with a total area of 82,403 square kilometers (within the administered city limits and administration under Chongqing) with a population of around 32 million residents.

Not really accurate - the title should be top 10 metropolitan areas, not cities. A metropolitan area is a city surrounded by additional counties and such.
When I think sixty years ago there were only 2 billion people in the world and now there are 8.3 billion nearly and in a few years there will be 9 billion. How are we going to feed and house these people? We can't do it now. In some of these cities many people are sleeping in the streets with their children already. This just cannot continue.
