Great episode! Found it a little disconcerting when Eric stopped halfway through and chanted “Ba Ado Mishram” for half an hour straight, but the rest was excellent as always!
Love Jasonian's content, he's on the rise within our community and the production value will help raise all our standards. Great to see him do content without a script and see his personality come through more.
I have a theory that since in the spiritual realm past present and future happen all at once from bam's perspective no time will have passed. that way it explains why she wouldn't go on a rampage after being trapped for so long
I know this wont happen soon, maybe never, but I NEED to seen radiant bonded to an honorspren and an ashspren. A windrunner dustbringer sounds like the most terrifying enemy. Having the powersets combined by spren and honorblade would be cool too, but the ramifications of swearing two different sets of oaths to become this absolute nightmare warrior dedicated to discipline and protection makes me so excited
46:10 "Shallan has killed all of her mentors and Hoid was her mentor" I can see it now, Mistborn era 4 book 3, Shallan standing on a broken star ship looms over Hoid, dual wielding Testament and Pattern as sick ass shard guns. She aims, pulls the trigger and shoots two bullets right in both of his eyes
I like the idea of the Ghostblood era to be kinda Men in Black-ish - investigating off-world incursions into Scadriel and their entrance into the Cosmere wide stage
So, the Shards live primarily in The Spiritual Realm, right? Doesn't that imply that if you put something there, it would be pretty easy for a Shard to find it if the Shard wants to? So, if a Shard (cough...Odium...cough) refrains from releasing a spren that's imprisoned in a gem and placed in The Spiritual Realm, can we infer that they want to keep said spren imprisoned?
Not exactly. We can assume Shards ocupy different "sections" of Spiritual Realm, so they would not be able to influence regions where is the other Shard.
I almost see the spirit world being similar to Tel'aran'rhiod from the wheel of time. A place that is super dangerous and hard to traverse unless you know how to
I actually read the last paragraph of the RoW epilogue first (I know, how dare I). That made for a very confusing experience when I got there after reading the whole thing.
Stormlight 10 prediction that isn’t serious but is seriously funny: Dalinar traps the entire Shard of Odium in a gemstone, and then hides that gemstone in a lamp in a magical cave along with Nightblood and the Honorblades.
Given that there are so many questions about Shallan's past still to be answered. I think the spirtual realm would be a great setting for those to come up and be revealed. In terms of who is her mom, what was going on with the skybreakers and Heleran, what about the unmade and her brothers when they were kids. Why was Hoid sent by Heleran with a message? If the spiritual realm deals in Connections and spiritual things maybe all of those could be revealed somehow with visions or however. With the 10 heartbeats for shallans blade I love how many layers there are to it. Because on one hand it's a deadeye blade so should require that. But on the other hand she never would've summoned it using those 10 heartbeats to check so the only times she would've summoned it wouldn't have taken that. But she's also lying to herself that it's both not there but sometimes acknowledging it is there but is only a normal shardblade. Just so many versions of it that are interesting. Also interesting is that normal deadeye shardblades require gemstones to even bond and she can still bond and use it without that.
So how does this work since Eric is a beta reader? You mentioned that you recorded the predictions video before you started the beta read, but this one seems to be later. Or am I missing something? Maybe you are just holding back your knowledge lol
Great question. This indeed is long after the beta. In a sense I am roleplaying my past self, if that makes sense? Fortunately I vividly remember my Ba-Ado-Mishram thoughts especially ;) (I did look up my initial reacts on these chapters and channeled that here.) -Eric
Counterpoint, could pressure caused by the War shard cause Harmony to go full Discord, and we get galactic war between Discord and War, with Autonomy and Cultivation manipulating them to their own ends
Since we know that damage to shards has noticeable negative impacts on the physical and cognitive realms, do we think it’s likely that it impacts the spiritual as well? I could see that making a place that’s already odd and disorienting, dangerous as well-hence Pattern’s hesitation. We also know that the spiritual realm is where souls go when they die, so could the damage to the shard of Honor be responsible for the screams that haunt Dalinar and Szeth? And extrapolating further-could Spiritual Realm damage be responsible for the shades as well?
Also to go with the commodification of investiture theme in the middle. I have wondered is breaths inflationary or deflationary. Or is endowment the Janet yellen of the Cosmere.
I always imagined the spiritual realm as a network of information, ideas linked to other ideas. "Going there" entails interpreting the links between ideas, and so there's still no "place", but your focus is always on an idea or set of ideas that you move between by switching focus. Not that I have any idea how a Bondsmith could put an object there. Though recently I read the novel True Names, whose premise is the idea that in the future, people will access the internet by interpreting the information as real world objects in 3D space. Which I think is a visually interesting way of conveying the idea.
Does anyone else struggle with deciding whether or not to read the preview chapters early? Like it's not really a spoiler, but..... Idk, I kindof want to read it all at once. But I'm not sure why it feels that way 🤷🏻♀️
38:50 y'all are talking about shallons not-fully-broken bond with testament. I understood it as shallon not being old enough to understand what she was doing. Like if you imagine a 9year old, you don't have to be intentional about making a friend, but if that friend hurts you and the 9 year old yells "I hate you! I don't wanna be your friend anymore!" The kid doesn't fully understand what that really means. Like, never? To me it makes sense that you don't need full aware intent to bond a spren, or make a friend, but you do need the full intent to end the bond/friendship.
My thought with appearing as a singer is honor spren appear human like as they have been imagined and interpreted by humans. Baadomishram appears as a singer as she was close with and imagined by the singers so that is the form she took.
So with regard to the seon, did we ever get a description of the exact shape of the Aon at its center? I mean it should be a map of Arelon modified right? Maybe the Aon needs to be redrawn to match the location the seon is traveling to in order for it to travel at all? Maybe Shallan’s seon was redrawn to match some part of Roshar but now they have no way to change it again so it literally can’t travel again
I'm a little surprised you guys didn't talk more about the Shallan/Radiant stuff. You guys were speculating that Radiant was eventually going to be incorporated into Shallan like Veil had been, but from the way things are described I got the impression that's not the case, or at least it's not being signposted.
@hubrisnxs2013 that would be my point. The battle is supposed to be "to the death" but using a willing spren as a champion could be the loophole Taravangian sees to claim his victory. Assuming Ba-Ado-Mishram is willing to fight, which I'd assume she is. We've already seen other un-made capable of killing humans on their own
For taking ten heartbeats to summon Testament, I dont think it would. Adolin can already summon Maya faster, and Shallan is Testament's first Radient. They also clearl have some sort of lingering bond. Presumably enough that she hasnt needed to use a gemstone to create a new bond with Testament.
7:33 what grace says here is basically gnostism, that you have a supreme universal creator god who exists in a more perfect world outside of our own experience. This supreme original god fights against lesser gods who have created this world, separation from the light of God's love. So while it might not be traditional, there is religious philosophy behid her literary interpretation
Could odiums way around the deal be to remove the “days”. Like block out the sun, or stop roshar from having a day night cycle. Could be why in the Shallan chapter images the “sun” starts disappearing from shadesmar
I guess that would that extend the time before the duel, though days are one rotation so stoping days would be stoping the planet from rotating which I don’t think he’s doing
Could anyone explain what they think he means by an Anime Arc? The closest I've gotten to anything Anime is animated series: Avatar the Last Air Bender. P.S. My husband and I have been assuming Stormlight 5 is going to be more of an "Empire Strikes Back" ending.
I'm more worried about Heliodor and Perfect Gems. Gems are grown inside the heart of certain Rosharan natives ? And Perfect Gems should be rarest of the rarest. I wonder how did they come upon such Gems and who was the previous owner of the Gem.
You guys must be sharing the use of "Wayfinder" (Books of Swords) because you always try to find the hardest route to get where you're going. B.E.M. got put in the spiritual realm the simple way. They opened a perpendicularity and chucked the gem in and closed it. Simple.
BAM... but I hear you. Often the simplest explanation isn't true, thoug, and especially not true in literature. I do agree someone chucked it past Melishi into the Spiritual Realm though
Wasn't that actually Pattern though? The color of the blade was different than the one that killed Tyn, it also glowed slightly, -and disappeared when Shallan made a lightweaving of Kaladin presumably because the lightweaving was attached to Pattern- . -Edit: On a closer reading; he dropped the blade but picked it back up and used it while the lightweaving was still there, so maybe I'm wrong.- Edit 2: in the next paragraph Shallan mentions that she couldn't send the lightweavings with Pattern for a reason that we aren't told because her thoughts get cut off, but presumably because Kaladin had Pattern.
Has anyone spoken about the possibility that Adonalsium is a naturally occurring metal gained awareness from being a collection of investiture? Look at the name, it ends in “ium”, we know that splitting and combining metals is possible. I would hypothesise that creating the metal of adonalsium would be completely possible, however recovering adonalsium as a god… that’s pretty much impossible.
Also wondering if it was formed in a supernova or something, or a white dwarf or black hole or something, then when given enough investiture over enough time, it grew into something new, and through intent moved it’s body into the other realms, converting mass into investiture
This is true. I knew people wanted my BAM responses, so I wanted to be on. I channeled my initial reactions from those chapters so it is as authentic as possible to what I had felt. It is kind of weird but I made it work okay! It's a bit like I tapped a coppermind and roleplayed the experience I had originally. Fortunately for me, it's very easy for me to get excited about BAM regardless! It is, of course, very important we had lots of non-betas on for this episode to make it work. -Eric
Didn’t the sample say “10 seconds” instead of “10 heartbeats?” I’m guessing that’s an error and hope it gets corrected in revisions/beta/gamma reads or whatever?
I don't want to preview anymore of Stormlight 5 before it comes out. Can I skip those sections of the video and watch the rest or will that include the Shallon Chapter info as well?
Calling it now. Very deep RAFO because 1. Kaladin will end up in the Spiritual Realm. 2. Lightweaver Tien is gonna be there. Also sailors on the infinite sea does make me sailors in the cognitive realm just saying.
If somehow Tien ended up trapped in the Cognitive Realm and didn't merge into the Spiritual Realm and get "recycled" back into Roshar, it would make Kaladin extra sad. The Cycle of Life is something I think we can expect Brando Sando to keep consistent enough that the few exceptions will be critical to the story element , plot and progression.
TOAdium is the most gullible and most devious entity so far in the Cosmere I think in my opinion. I dont think Rayse/Odium or any of the other "negative" shards ever had such a vessel before.
Sorry if this gets suggested already: why don't you guys get a decent mic setup? Given you do SO much (mainly audio based) content surely its a no brainer!!
Who's audio are you referring to? What seems to be the problem? We spend a lot on audio equipment. Grace's audio is always a bit tricky due to a few factors. What's up? -Eric
@@17thShard Thanks for the reply Eric. Yes 2 things: 1. Would suggest to avoid laptop audio / background noise removal as it feels like the same quality as a zoom call 2. Hadn't realised most people here had mics (was listening audio only) -- I'm not an expert but I can tell SOMETHING is off, e.g. listen to audio quality in this podcast I was also listening to (ua-cam.com/video/MGjjm0FNoCk/v-deo.html) where it feels fuller / more studio quality. Maybe it's the level of audio compression (if your audio bitrate in source audios or the final render file is too low / you're recording audio over Zoom etc. rather than at source), or that it could be EQ'd better (probably just a case of creating a preset you can have in Premiere Pro, etc. that you can apply to all podcasts). That's not really helpful but just throwing some ideas that might improve it...
I've played with EQ settings; ultimately I think this is the standard "talk softly and you can up the gain a lot" to get great sound. There are tradeoffs to not having background noise removal when you are not in highly treated spaces. It is very possible that podcast has separate local recordings which allows you to remove the inherent compression that Discord does. -Eric
I really don’t get the pronoun stuff. It’s like a solution looking for a problem. And it just makes any interaction more complicated. I have a hard enough time remembering names.
It actually affects some real people on the cast. You don't have to remember them, they are being beamed into your brain! No one is asking for perfection, but a modicum of respect. -Eric
Dude, if "basic decency" is an echo chamber, you're not really selling the anti-woke platform. Fun fact, through history gender and the gender binary were very different, with different traits being considered masculine or feminine. Cultures also had more than two genders. God forbid we learn more about the wide range of the human experience and try and to be good to people! Do you really prefer the strategy of, "New things confuse me and I think the world shouldn't be complicated, even though it obviously is complicated. Also, I like making assumptions even though it can be really hurtful, because I'd rather just be mean and hurt people than say I care about fellow humans." Yeah, what an echo chamber. You're really selling it, bud. -Eric
@@jamskinneryou do realize gender is a construct that we choose to apply? Right? People from thousands of years didn’t need to use gender at all, let alone to survive. Seriously, what’s your problem? How does this affect you at all? What personal attack is this to you? Why do you even care so much?
Pattern DID take issue with entering the spiritual realm. He retracted his earlier statement that Shallan wasn't going to kill him.

Ryhtms o Roshar? No, they are not Connected to Harmony. Rythms of Scadrial on the other hand...

@@17thShard Thanks for the reply Eric. Yes 2 things:
1. Would suggest to avoid laptop audio / background noise removal as it feels like the same quality as a zoom call
-Eric
is the Shallan reading posted?
It's in the description :) Brandon also posted a video of it just a few days ago. -Eric
@@17thShard Thanks. First time hearing about this.

-Eric
@@17thShardhow did people survive thousands of years without? It’s your site Eric, but try viewing if from outside the woke echo chamber.
Really wanted to listen to this show but the way the host inflects his voice makes it laborious and hard to listen to
If you watch it at 2x speed and 85% lower pitch, then you won't feel it so much. 😀
Yeah, there's some people who don't like my voice. Sorry! Can't exactly change that. -Eric
@@17thShard you do a great job and your voice isn’t that bad it’s the inflections ! I’m sure you’ll improve the more you have at it 👍🏽
I can't say I intend to change that. I am sure I will get better at presenting but I don't think that's what you're referring to. -Eric
