    This is a capacitor based dash cam which doesn't overheat, therefore there is only a small battery inside. many dash cams have overheated and caused fires which is why more have capacitors now.

      Right side you have 4 buttons "OK" "M" "padlock" "on/off". If you press the padlock it will lock the current recording and as far as I know that means it will not be overwritten when the camera cycles through the memory. How much is saved depends on how long you have set the intervals on "Loop recording"

      Install? well you have to hide the power cable by tucking it behind the car trim but other than that there is no "installation" as such. I expect some company would charge you a couple of hundred quid for their time to do it for you but with a little care you will find car manufacturers have allowed for you to hide wires fairly easily behind rubber trim etc.

      Sorry, I have no idea. I can only suggest you read the instructions supplied with your camera. Does your power socket switch on when you alarm goes off? My socket turns on when I switch on the ignition, so the camera starts filming from that point. As for playback, I transfer the files from the SD card to my PC and view them from there. If you don't have a PC, you could get an adaptor to connect the SD card to your phone and view the files on there. You can playback the videos on the dashcam, but the screen is rather small.

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  5 років тому

      Not quite sure what you mean "save". Do you mean to prevent it being overwritten? According to the manual P3 (I haven't tried it myself) the Lock button locks the current files. I think that means that they cannot be overwritten by the looping function that would normally overwrite the first file in the memory when the memory is full. Looking at P15 in the manual it indicates the protected/locked files are stored in the RO (read only) folder on the memory card. If you mean "save" as in save to your computer then what I do is plug the memory card into a suitable adaptor connected to my PC and transfer all the files to my hard drive. Unless you have had an accident/incident I would not suggest saving files on your memory card or you will soon run out of space.

      Best advice I can give you is, depending on where you bought it, take it back and get a replacement or a refund. From your description it sounds like the battery is dead, but that is just a guess. If that is the case it may be your charger has died or unplugged or the wire is broken.

    So do I have to press the record button everytime or does it record automatically on starting the engine

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  5 років тому +1

      That depends on the electrical setup of your car. If you are plugging the camera into your "cigarette lighter" supply and that supply is switched on and off with your ignition then the camera should start up when you turn the ignition on and it should switch off when you turn the ignition off. In fact it stays running for 5 seconds, presumably to capture video after a serious crash. That's how it works on my car. As soon as I get in and switch the ignition on the camera starts up and starts recording. My car has an additional feature that keeps the power supply running to the socket even when you switch the ignition off and take the key out. It only cuts the power when you open the door so if I have stopped the car but don't get out (maybe pulled into a car park for a rest), the camera keeps running. My fix to that is to open the door and shut it again so the car thinks I got out and it finishes the power down procedure and cuts the power to that socket.

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  Рік тому +1

      It saves the video in 3 minute clips. You can get about 2 hours on a 32gb sd card, which is long enough for most journeys. If you want to save what is there for future reference, you would have to download it to your computer or other storage device. After it fills up your card, it will start overwriting the oldest files.

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan

      @juststuff531 No, like I said, it records in 3 minute clips. It does that continuously. You leave it recording all the time you are driving. That is what it is for. It keeps a continuous record of your driving experience. If you have an accident, you take the stored video and transfer it somewhere safe for evidence. Because it runs on a loop, you will always have up to the last 2 hours of drive time stored on it. If you only make 10-minute journeys every day, that means you might have the last 12 days of driving recorded on it. On day 13, it would overwrite day 1. If you do a 3 hour journey, you would only find the last 2 hours when you view the video back because the loop would have gone over the first hour

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  Рік тому +1

      @juststuff531 the lock button will stop that particular clip from being overwritten. You can set the camera to automatically lock the current clip if the motion sensor detects you have had an accident. That is a good feature, because in an accident you may not be conscious. The camera is normally set to start recording as soon as you switch the ignition on and stop when you switch the ignition off. So, in an accident, the camera will keep recording, even if the car isn't moving, as long as the ignition is still turned on. That can be handy as there may be action taking place after the accident, like an argument or a fight. Or to record witnesses standing around.

      It charges all the time your car is running if you have it plugged in via the cable to the cigarette lighter port. BUT be aware the battery will not run it for long when the car is not running, so you cannot leave it switched on overnight and expect it to record all night until you return the next day. I would think a couple of hours maximum, probably less than that.

      @@philipkeane2217 didn't you get any instructions with it when you bought it? Sounds like yours is a different model to mine. I don't recall it having an HDMI slot. Do you mean the slot for the SD card?

      Ah, now I am sure it is a different version. Mine has no option for a rear facing camera.

      Nope, sorry, I have never knowingly touched any Apple technology.

      Take out the Micro SD card and use an SD Card converter to put the Micro SD Card into your imac

      I have scanned my instructions into a PDF file if you want to contact me via Facebook or similar. Links in the video description. Don't put your details in a reply here on UA-cam.

    Can u fit it on a. mobility scooter

      If your mobility scooter has a windscreen the sucker mount would fit. If not, you would need a bracket to clamp it onto your handlebars or whatever. It is not waterproof and it needs a 12 volt power supply, what we used to call a cigar lighter socket in cars many years ago. With the right connecting cable, you could run it off a powerbank. Of course, somebody might pinch it if it is left on display. You would probably do just as well with a cheap action camera. They usually come with a selection of fittings to allow them to be fitted on bicycles and helmets etc. You see lots of cyclists with them.
