I've been using mine for VHS as well, it was working fine for a little while, but now it seems to be staying in flickering rainbow mode. Occasionally I can adjust the picture enough to get something animated to look somewhat normal, but live action just won't do it.
I would suggest using either OBS or the Built in Windows Camera app (if you have upgraded from Windows 7 since this vid was published) to capture from this device instead of the provided software. On my device I noticed that stereo audio inputs get mixed down to mono when capturing from this device. Does yours have the same issue?
I just got this. It transferred several short videos from VHS nicely. However, when I transferred an hour long video the sound wasn't synched with the video after the 7 minute point and the video became very jumpy at times. It took about 4 gb at the "best" video setting for this hour long segment. At one point in the long video it created a second video as I believed it reached its capacity for a single video. Nice piece of a equipment and software, but it seems to limited to videos of less than 10 minutes for my computer. Maybe a faster processor and more memory would allow it to work better.
Thanks, had an thought that the software wasn't compatible with WIndows 10. Installed a WIndows 7 installation with the software and driver that came with the Easycap USB and it worked. For anyone else wondering, yes you can use regular RCA White / Red cables instead of an S Video yellow cable. The S video cable is thicker and thus is more isolated from noise, but assuming that your VHS is already in poor quality it shouldn't matter.

You don't need a CD-ROM. You cam mount the CD image with software like DAEMON Tools Lite. It's free software. There is a link to the Driver Software in the description box.

I just tried this software - the captured video from the camcorder is not showing in colour, only black and white with stripes across the screen and some flickering. Any fixes for this?
Sound like you set the software for PAL mode or vice versa. If you live in US it's NTSC, if in EU it's PAL. You have to have it set for the region in which the original video was recorded in.
Please let me know how do I change the physical size of what I captured on the screen of the software. It's basically a big window with a smaller size of the image and the balance part is blank. Thank you
I got it today. My video works fine in the vcr and when I play it through the laptop . Its not really working and the sound and picture are all over the place
Maybe you can help me. I installed this software yesterday and it works fine. Only issue is that the camera screen shows a color film and when I play that film on the laptop with the easy cap the film is in black and white! I am using Windows 8 on my laptop. It has installed succesfully the smi grabber device for driver as i checked. However, video is not showing up while audio is there. How to solve it?
Try unplugging the device from the USB and then put it back in. Also check all the connections and make shore they are plugged in. Maybe try reinstalling the driver. If that don't work, It may be faulty. It works on Windows 10 so it should work on Windows 8.
Saying that, I just done a test with my old Camcorder and that worked. When I tried my Commodore 64 I could not get a picture and when I was running this device on Windows 7, It used to work.

I have converted several VHS to digital video files to uplod to UA-cam and burned a couple DVDs. You can set the recording length, like lets say you want to record a VHS tape and start it an come back later. Also the split size is the limit on the file size: 4 GB is a standard DVD and 7GB is dual DVD
Is it safe to just pull a device like this out of a windows 10PC without using windows to “eject/safely remove”? If safe, is it more for hardware like this, or safe to remove the USB adapter I use for MicroSD, or does that risk file corruption? Thanks again and Cheers!
Should be the same that I demonstrated wit h my Camcorder. I can't use this device because It no longer works. Also I had problems with this with Windows 10. Software and device are pretty bad.

Does the capture software allow you to cut your video's afterwards? E.g. I have one tape with a lot of different material on it. I'd like to record it all at once, into 1 big file. And cut it into different chapters afterwards.
I downloaded some software not on the computer and got it closer in sync but now I am off by seconds instead of minutes. It always starts out fine and end up off

Installed a WIndows 7 installation with the software and driver that came with the Easycap USB and it worked.

I tried one from an Australian shop. I had even more problems. Even the updated driver, from the seller's web site, actually contained a virus!

It can not be used for a webcam. It is merely an audio/video input device to record onto your computer, using the accompanying software.
Does this work with a VHS video camera?

I can't even get it to work with Windows 10. I just pull it out when I finished with in when I used it on Windows 7 and I hardly used it then.

you have to change the video input setting to the device and the microphone setting to the device

If you got Windows 10, I would not bother. Mine won't work on it.

E.g. I have one tape with a lot of different material on it. I'd like to record it all at once, into 1 big file. And cut it into different chapters afterwards.
I don't think so. The software is pretty crap just like the capture device itself.

Yes you can do that. It seems to work fine with my Windows 10 Home edition. Windows 10 actually also has some video editing and trimming tools.

WOULD IT BE POSSIBLE TO HOOK AN OTG CABLE UP TO THE EZCAP AND THE OTHER END OF THE OTG CABLE TO YOUR ANDROID PHONE, AND IT SAVE THE RECORDING?
I have not tried that and probably would not work. But you never know.

My audio is out of sync

I downloaded some software not on the computer and got it closer in sync but now I am off by seconds instead of minutes. It always starts out fine and end up off

I am guessing so but you can connect a cable straight into your line in on your sound card from your cassette player.

I don't think there is. The software that came with mine was very basic. I can't get it to work with Windows 10.

I guessing you can record the audio. I've never tried. Since I've been using Windows 10, the device no longer worked.
