As a Hungarian living in Hungary since I was born I have absolutely no problem with people experimenting with Hungarian recipes, flavours and ingredients. On the contrary, I'm proud of it. One thing I wish though is that people who like the re-imagined Hungarian cuisine would have a chance once in their lifetime to visit our country and taste the originals. It would be great! But... do one thing for yourself! Don't come for a weekend only. Come for a whole week at least and look around in the countryside also. Lake Balaton, Visegrád, the wine regions, and so on. That would be a more complete picture for you about our country, people, culture, and food.
Try using mizo (Japanese fermented rise paste) in your Hungarian stews and soups, it makes them even more amazing. The other day I added some to my rice with fried garlic and oh my! I mixed that rice with Hungarian lecso that I made with Scottish sausages. It was absolutely mouth watering. The next morning I used the leftover with eggs, to create omelette. Hungarian rice lecso with Japanese Mizo and Scottish sausages. This was our breakfast today, my entire family loved it. As a Hungarian living in Scotland, married to my Scottsman, I enjoy experimenting with recipes. There is so much more to enjoy with our taste buds this way. 🤗🤗🤗
Hungarian *_influenced_* indeed...the chicken paprikash barely resembles any I saw in Budapest. And langos with just sour cream and grated cheese is pretty awesome...no need to update. That said, all the dishes look fantastic. Hungarian cuisine is underappreciated for sure. 👍
At first when i read the video title i was so excited and proud for a second...but then i saw these creation (they look beautiful and tasty)but this is not Hungarian food ,and i don't want to be that kind of person who is upset on the internet and bringing down people and criticizes them ,and im not gonna be . The food looks delicious the presentation and the idea to show the Americans Hungarian cuisine is a great idea! But please don't change what is already excellent am proud what i learned from my mom and grandma and this is the point ,families passing their knowledge to their kids through generations perfecting the recipes little by little. Show them the real Hungarian cuisine stick to the flavours and recipes and play with the plating instead. I wish him good luck in the future !:)
Reaction At First: Thank you, so so much. We need more Hungarian cuisine in New York. It's lacking so much and I need all the langos in my life. Then: Hearing him pronounce it wrong was pretty weird and why is it so small? Has he been to Budapest? I'm confused. I will still try it... *Looks up restaurant*: Oh, I can't even afford to go...when langos is like straight-up cheap street food on a Balaton. Now I'm just teased and incredibly sad.
Hungarian fusion cuisine never ceases to infuriate Hungarians and outside of the other already stated reasons an overlooked one is the fact that Hungarian food is more slated towards the palate of eastern europeans as opposed to western europeans let alone the ultra foreign american palate that insists on sweetening everything.
Great concept, however I think the dishes need to be revised and made more authentic regarding size, proportion of ingredients etc. A cuisine doesn't have to be modernised
Lángos with sour cream, crushed garlic, smoked grated cheese is delicious with pickles or csalamádé (not necessarily spicy Hungarian "kimchy") or pickled watermelon. This deep fried bread with honey is far away from what lángos really is. Just give it another name. Call it "Eddy's flamed bread". Lángos roughly translates to "flamed".
As a Hungarian born in the Netherlands I watched this video with a little distrust, as some dishes were not as Hungarian as I know the Hungarian Kitchen, but the Langos inspired me to make my own. A pity that the palacsinta story was a bit butchered. I never heard of it to be made in the evening and 'shared', much more made on sundays as a desert or sold on the beaches around the Balaton lake as a treat like the Langos with garlicsauce and cream/sour cheese. But I understand it also from a restaurant point of view. Good luck with your restaurant, and the next time I'm in NYC I'll definitely will look it up, sit down and experience it.
As a Hungarian living and cooking day by day our Hungarian dishes I have to say, this is NOTHING like Hungarian cuisine. This is almost an insult to our beautifully balanced, authetntic treasures. Langos with honey is an insult. Langos is savory and is server with a generous amount of garlic, sour cream and cheese. And soy sauce in Hungarian food.... well well. This is well bad. This is not even remotely Hungarian. I am offended to watch this.
My family's most favorite way to eat langos is with homemade strawberry jam. It's not an insult, it is up to what you like. Even in Hungary you can buy so many different toppings for your langos from stews to sweet toppings. Whenever we make langos, we eat some as savory, the first one usually just as it is, and the final delicacy is the pudding one, the one with homemade strawberry jam. As we are beekeepers, my husband especially loves his langos with our delicious honey. We live in Scotland, but I grew up in Hungary. Whenever we visit my family over there, we get langos and I was surprised to see they started to put even stews on langos. I thought wow, what an amazing idea. It was a positive change, not something to be offended to. It was my Scottish husband's idea to put jam on langos and I cannot be more grateful for his amazing idea. Yummm, suppa delicious. Just like French toast with jam. Just because I never had it before, I did not feel like I should get offended by it. I've seen it as something amazing, something new, exciting. Some of our friends are begging for me to make langos with jam again, when they visit us. Because it is even better than doughnut. 😉 I would suggest you to try your langos next time with some delicious sweet topping. You will enjoy it for sure. 😘
Langos with honey????? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO its a bread-dough, its almost like a indian Naan or a fluffy pizza dough... i was on hungarian food-stands where they put tomatoe sauce and cheese on it with ham and mushrooms.. thats all ok, but its not a sweet dish!!!!!!!!!.. Not honey and coconut.... :( its like putting honey on a Pizza... OMG
long story short: art school kid need a trendy ethnic profession, took his holocaust surviving grandma that he barely knew, and turned her into a "culinary journey"
this is definitely not Hungarian food. stop talking shit. don't say chicken paprikas ( csirke pörkõlt) if you are not doing it right. this is a hot mess. the langos is a disgrace too. why honey 🍯?????? why not sour cream and cheese or just garlic and a little salt

Why not make it yourself. It is so easy to make at home!!
That is *NOT* chicken paprikás. It's a chicken stew made with sour cream served alongside nokedli.

This looks great.
He should have named his restaraunt "The Hungarian Rhapsody". 🎶🎵

Even tomato sauce is something very, very untraditional and if my grandma would still be alive she would beat them with a wooden spoon
People in america routinely put powdered sugar and or honey on these kinds of fluffy breads maybe not naan specifically though.
dude, where tf i the duckfat????
👍
