We don't yet have a repairability scorecard for game consoles (but our team's working on it!). Right now, we only score smartphones, tablets, laptops, earbuds, e-readers, and smartwatches.
I absolutely love the lip service to magnuson moss act whenever possible. It's so important to start reversing the hivemind dialog on THIS VOIDS THE WARRANTY THOUGH when it literally does not.
TronicsFix noted a slight improvement to the contact surface on the heat sink for the CPU that will hopefully prevent the Liquid Metal from drooping down when the console is in the upright position.
[PS5 comes out] Me: I'll wait for the PS5 Pro because it'll play the PS4 and 5 games better! [PS5 Pro comes out] Me: I'll wait until the PS6 because it'll play the PS4 and 5 games better!
Why don't we call those "qualified Individuals" by name? Hello Digital Foundry we see you and we value your deep dives at least as much as iFixit tear downs :D Hope there is a colab in the future :D
3:53 So the PS5 and PS5 Pro uses liquid metal, but watch out on applying liquid metal, because intel processors (which could have any thermal paste) can be voided in warranty sooo...... what's the relation between these two? So the conclusion should be -> Sony should provide us the correct liquid metal that they use for the PS5 Pro?
Nothing against the easy replaceable battery but how many people had to change the battery of a 'normal' PS5? Is the easy access a needed feature? (edit: spelling)
Batteries as a whole are bound to die and or leak having it being accessible means that your average person can remove it when it finally dies in 5 to 10 years without worry just like on Nintendo Wii's and Wii Us. This change is motivated by EU regulations on replaceable batteries as well as past controversies with the C-Bomb (Internal clocks batteries on PS3 and PS4 dying led to the system being unable to verify purchase licenses) which they were forced to update PS4 with a patch and change how the system calls home to check purchases going forward.
the main purpose of the ddr5 is not to free up the gddr6. although gddr6 has much bigger bandwidth than ddr5, it also has much higher latency, like 2x-3x. it makes sense to store frequently used non-gpu data to normal ddr5 ram, to avoid that extra latency, with things like music/sound, game logic etc. that will make optimizations give better performance overall.
Other tech teardown: "the ssd is replaceable" "the repairability is 10 out of 10" Apple products teardown: "GUESS WHAT. THE SSD IS REPLACEABLE", "YOU CAN ELECTROCUTE ADHESIVE TO REMOVE BATTERY", "COMES IN 99 DIFFERENT COLOR"
I got a PS5 Pro last week and decided to upgrade my TV to a high end OLED panel that cost me 3 grand. The console, TV, drive, stand and a bunch of games and 2 more controllers cost me a small fortune and I blew my monthly tech toys budget! Ouch.
@@JonnyD3athbrah, me have that as well. 😂 3 grand for best PS exclusives is sweet, plus the TV is epic for movies. For my high end PC I have a superb gaming monitor. Noice.
People have different expertise on different subjects. Given that I fixit is generally focused on guides on the replacement and ease of use in the accessibility to the components ie CPU, GPU, CMOS Battery and Fan assembly its not really in their expertise to say how the changes to the system affect performance and frame timings which is something that other people like Digital Foundry specialize in. Dentist vs Surgeon
Nice teardown as always, but why there's isn't repairability score in the end?

Sony really needs some serious competition
Sony needs soyboys to stop purchasing their console just to to play 3 "exclusives"
@abhi-now they do but both microsoft and nintendo are basicly doing the same as sony
It's already running games at 30FPS...
They do, its PCs and they’re winning.
games are expensive to develop well into the 100s of millions and i dont think apple or samsung willing to spend that much😂
Oh that fan header is going to be fun to repair
No score? Or did I miss it somehow??? Seems like it would be pretty good, 6/10 or 7/10
ifixit has been getting worse ever since, they used to have teardown webpages that were great and they stopped doing them
If they give a score, people refuse to watch the entire thing and just skip to the last chapter.
So they stopped doing it for many products.
3:22 Sony should use heat conductive Silicone cage to seal the liquid metal to avoid leaking
Why? The current one is good enough
A like to your video is an appreciation to the effort and not necessarily to the item in review. Thank you iFixit.

If it came hassle free with a disc drive, I would have thought about getting it.
That's a very elegant design.
Thermal paste isn't duct tape. It can't keep the universe together.
4:27 That looks like a pretty beefy power supply over there in the background...
I love my PS5 Pro
Jon Holmes of Destructiod fame delivers yet another banging video.
Is it dual voltage ?
3:20 Further proof that Skynet and Sony are working together.
"Cheetos crumbs"
are we still in the 2005 era. my god.
Can it play Tomb Raider 1 ?

I believe Sony has a patented sealed design that prevents the liquid from leaking.
how is that your conclusion lmao

Yes, it is absolutely needed. It is the one part that will 100% need to be replaced, even if nothing ever breaks or goes wrong.
I'm guessing this is like an RX 8600 basically
That heatsink held by thermal putty is such a cheap move holy f... God forbid you knock the console and that crap come loose.
Good to see 😌
Most power full apu
More action, less talk
Sony is actually a potential replacement for Microsoft, and their operating system is much more advanced than Windows.

Very cool. I'd never buy a ps5 though or a xbox. But cool though 😊
Now make a video on how to fix coil whine on PS5 pro?
Return it and buy another. There's no "fix" for coil whine.
Радиатор так и не показали
Picked mine up today. I just spent 1,520 bucks on the ps5 pro experience. Help me.
Did anybody else see the thumbnail of the video and thought the console looked like a refrigerator? 😬
Motherboard feia demais. Nem pra isso sony ?
intel 🤣🤣🤣

Good to know
3 grands for a console setup is literally insane
When you could have bought a gaming PC and had a lot better gaming experience. Embarrassing.

Look at all the wasted space on the PCB....
not a marvel of engineering like the Xbox Series S… X too but S is just a marvel in the small size
Hard pass
Why do we care so much about how much a compact device would be "repairable"?
Because over the years they break regardless of their size
@ just bring it to sony and they gonna repair it?
Very cool! Thank you for your attention to detail! 🐱💞
