We had a Terra as a family / work van with the Diesel, manual 5 speed and a trailer hook. It was surprisingly durable, drove it all around Europe for 250k something km, occasionally pulling a horse trailer. Top speed I ever reached was 150km/h downhill Autobahn (no trailer) :-D It never died, it was sold on for 500 EUR, because it got replaced by a Seat Inca. I'm a fan. The camper van conversion is awesome!
Pulling a horse trailer seems somewhat insane through modern eyes. However, if you're going to tow anything, I supposed that's the most suitable. Every time you need to get up a hill, the horse could get out and pull :)
My first car was a lovely little red 903cc Marbella 💕❤️ unstoppable, reliable, frugal, simple and with a rubber floor. I miss that wonderful simplicity.
My dad had a Terra and my mum had a Marbella. I remember the rear seat being so uncomfortable! It was zippy though! The van wasn’t well built, one Day my dad went to reverse and he pulled the whole gear stick out!! 😂
O wow. I had forgotten Seat (pre VW) made a copy of the Fiat Panda. Back in the early 90s, one of junior managers where I started work owned a Seat Ibiza (not a VW). Must be incredibly rare now. Think it had a 1.2 petrol engine. It’s always the Skoda>VW story everyone makes an episode about…. Would be great to do the Seat>VW story.
Everywhere else I always hate ads and try to block and skip them but I always watch your ads in the start of the videos! I'm not even in England / UK so they aren't relevant to me but I love how they are actually relevant to the car and not your average "Skillshare" or "Nebula" or whatever ads on youtube channels!
It looks like the Spanish-British version of Jacques Tati's small camper in his movie "Trafic" (in the movie, it was a modified Renault 4). Practical and cute!
I was disappointed when the radiator grille didn't flip out for steak and half expected the back doors to have a curtain, flip down seats and a built in shower unit! 😀
This Seat was at a show at the NEC l am a bit of a camper van nerd never will own one but when you first showed it and demostraded hiw the sleeping arangement was set up l thought no stove and no sink thank goodness you revealed the stove and sink not thr fasted van around but that's part of its charm and l do wish thst the quarter windows opened but been a comercial vehicle l also like comercial vehicles vans and utes to seen been reviewed because l have owned a few of them very basic
What a fantastic little camper,Would be superb for a quick week end getaway and pretty much park up anywhere without using much space or attracting too much attention,I see theres also another version of this without the lifting top and it has kinda like a built in Rack above where the Driver/Passenger sits.
We had a Seat Terra on our fleet of hire vans in the 1980's. It was new and when it had the first service we were advised to check the torque on the head studs. One of the lads merrily went off to do the job, only to return a few minutes later with a nut and sheared piece of stud! Apart from that hiccup, it was a really good little van, and popular with the renters.
On any 4 cylinder it is a good idea to retorque the head bolts at 1,500 kilometers, or a thousand miles. Volvo used to include the first service on the old 240 included in the price of the car, and that was part of it, along with all fluids being flushed and a raft of other checks and services. It was 4 hours of labour.
With that front section over the cabin looking like a 'book' on its side ...would have made a cool tiny mobile library for tiny Spanish mountain villages..next to the Thomas the Tank engine stati.....sorry I got carried away.
Brilliant little camper and your review was excellent, showing us what can be crammed into such a small space. Very enjoyable week with all these Fiat themed videos 👍
What a cute wee beastie. Not sure how all 4 people who can sit in it manage to sleep in it, though. Definitely cute, but that drone and that performance, or lack thereof, would be a deal breaker for me.
Reminds me of my Renault Express 1988 1.6 4 speed. It’s not about the speed but reliability with these vehicles. Often put a mattress in the back of mine and it made an excellent camper van 😂
What a wonderful little camper although the engine sounds very loud. We went away in a borrowed Citreon Ronahome a couple of years ago and that was pokey, I can imagine that Terra is worse. Another great video Matt.
first one of these,s ive seen ok it,s small but cool little thing i remenber the seat & fiat panda cars where good, it reminds me of the Reliant Rialto Camper Van you don,t see many about anymore : )
I really like what the owner has done with this. :) Purchased and upgraded for a fraction of the cost of a VW Caravanette I'd wager. 😎 Small correction: the Marbella was replaced by the Arosa, not the Ibiza. I would love to have a drive in a Marbella.
Danbury were always only a small volume producer of camper conversions, doubt if that many of those done anyway, mostly known for the Talbot 1.5 tonne van conversion. An interior mirror only normally used to check one's hair or make up in or to keep an eye on the kids, the door mirrors are to see what's behind. Ideal for one and the squeeze attending a festival for the weekend.
Dragging those red mountains around is what’s slowing its performance down Matt 😂 and without them it’s a small Ferrari camper, what a lovely little toy to camp out in 👌🏻.
Remember the Terra, we had a number of small van knocking about. Got to love the conversions back then and that thing certainly pack a lot in. Don't think I'd want to do too many miles on a trip though, not with the drone of that engine and the optimistic 100mph 😅
Actually, the Marbella's successor in 1998 was the AROSA (4 pax and similar to VW's Lupo). 😉 However, the IBIZA was born in 1984 and corresponds to a higher segment model.
Maybe I'm wrong but I would say you said "the Marbella was replaced by the Ibiza in 1998" As you may know the Ibiza was launched in 1984, and belonged to a bigger range than the Panda/Marbella. Marbellas were replaced by the Arosa in 1998.
That’s an interesting video Matt! I remember seeing The Van version of this , but never seeing this type of Terra. Looks like a Pope-Mobile! More of a Kit car than a LTI TX London Taxi that were made from Ford parts with various engines Transit, Nissan and VM from Italy.
The Terra was available in Spain with windows in the side panels and was called the Terra combi as a most small vans are. So they serve as vans and family cars as well.
I loathe these people who bully other cars on the road. I used to get this quite often in my Triumph Herald 1360, and is the reason I sold it in the end
As someone unfortunate enough to be a member of the so-called "gig economy", faced with ever-rising hotel costs on long jobs I can see a real attraction in buying something like this. However, being of a... certain age, shall we say, I'm not entirely sure about the lack of en-suite facilities at night!
What a brilliant little thing! I love the 80s ethos too. Brilliantly executed and just fun but it really would have to have a turbo just to keep up with modern traffic and go any distance though. That Transit driver was a bit of a prick though! Great video
wow love his cheeky camper as you know i love my camper vans having built 13 myself over the years utilising space every inch is key and they have done it so well with the hidden utilitys a great two birth camper for day trips too although i would not want to take it to dorset abbottsbury hill even my renault master 2.5 120bhp only climbs it at 25 mph flat out 2nd gear lol great review matt have a great easter weekend all the best donny
One of these was up for bids at Gateway Auctions twice recently and failed to receive any interest sadly. Was this the 3rd in existence 😂.was in nice condition too
It’s one of the three I’m aware of. I also know of a red one. Video was slightly misleading, I only have this one as a Danbury camper conversion, my other Terra is a van converted for wheelchair use, which I use as a parts hauler. I believe the one on Gateway auctions didn’t do very well because the mot ran out during it’s listing, and the mot history noted that the underside was heavily covered in underseal suggesting, maybe unfairly, that it was hiding something.
Always find it weird that many UK speedos have numbers for 20/40/60/80 whereas almost all roads are 30/50/70. Apart from 20mph zones (booooo!). Also, is an ‘Atlas’ what you get when you open google maps and press Print?
Matt, Can it cruise at 65 to 70 mph? ( It would be nice to overtake the occassional Lorry on a Motorway.) I can´t imagine it being pleasant for long Journey´s touring otherwise. It sounds very noisy.
I use that as my bench mark. I feel there´s nothing worse than being stuck in the slow lane all the time, and also not be in danger of breaking speed limit´s.
What would have collected a traffic violation on American Highways thirty years ago, would attract gunfire today. However, on secondary roads it might be fun. I cant work out how you would avoid blowing the engine over 50 mph.

Never knew these existed, what a lovely small camper ideal for fishing ❤
Thanks for featuring my camper Matt, really enjoyed the day watching you work. Really pleased with the end result. 👍
Oh by the way, it’s been around the clock, just the once, so mileage is 144k.
Thanks for letting me out in it, its such a fun little thing!
It doenst show the miles at all
@@furiousdriving True. My conscience wouldn’t let me keep quiet about it. 😁
I love this awesome little van you don't need to go fast when your going away to relax
Super camper ❤
What a fun looking little camper, a excellent little review of a rare and fascinating little camper.
It is huge fun. I think the owner plans to swap a 1.4 FIRE engine into it and that will transform it!
@@furiousdriving that's a very good idea with 3 positives , it'll go a lot better, sound a lot better and get rid of the VW link
My first car was a lovely little red 903cc Marbella 💕❤️ unstoppable, reliable, frugal, simple and with a rubber floor. I miss that wonderful simplicity.
It looks Terra-fying!!!
My dad had a Terra and my mum had a Marbella. I remember the rear seat being so uncomfortable! It was zippy though! The van wasn’t well built, one Day my dad went to reverse and he pulled the whole gear stick out!! 😂
Fantastic camper after the Rover and two vans were being spoiled, cheers!
Wasn't replaced by the Ibiza, that had been going for years. The Arosa replaced the Marbella.
O wow.
I had forgotten Seat (pre VW) made a copy of the Fiat Panda.

Preciosa cuidala esuna joya.
Adorable. Imagine the holidays this little guy has enjoyed.

Quite a few actually!
I really like that thing.
Had a 1993 Fiat Panda as my 1st car, loved it and wish I still had it

What a fabulous little camper! All you need for a camping weekend away. Great stuff!
Absolutely love it! I think the next car in your trading up series should be a SEAT. They don’t get the love they deserve!
totally agree i have a cordoba estate (vario) diesel and i m not parting with it anytime soon

Wonderful, especially the way the cooker and sink are hidden. Those wheels are perfect, love the stance!
Last time I saw one of those was at the caravan/motorhone show nearly 30 years ago never seen one in the wild

Yes, you’re describing the van that this camper was built from.
That is so smart & practical
Should let you compare it with my Marbella "Splash" base model 843cc 34hp. Think it may be the worlds slowest car! Love seeing this camper x
what a cute little thing .. reminds me of the time i went camping in the Lake District in a 1.4 ( non turbo ) diesel metro

It is charming and has been well planned.
I assume the bonnet pins were a brutal solution to a broken cable release.
Its adorable.

Marvellous Matt, what a total unicorn, might avoid it for my family holiday but really great to see a survivor!
It is a cracker isn't it! Love how rare it is, you wont be next to another one in a campsite
Yeah Matt, you total unicorn. Oh sorry. Misread. I was joining in on the insult. Apologies.
WOW! Impressive! Thank you for presenting this. I love to see unique vehicles.
Brilliant little camper and your review was excellent, showing us what can be crammed into such a small space. Very enjoyable week with all these Fiat themed videos 👍
Cute little thing!
Happy 40th Birthday Seat Marbella :)
What a fantastic little thing
Love this my dad had one as the work van for running around and use to borrow it to go see my mates even used it to go to a car cruise once
What an awesome little thing.. imagine Festival season in that .. brilliant..
I did look smart at the NEC last November
What a cute wee beastie. Not sure how all 4 people who can sit in it manage to sleep in it, though. Definitely cute, but that drone and that performance, or lack thereof, would be a deal breaker for me.
The journey to your destination really ensures you sleep well that night.
Superb wee thing - I bought a Marbella new in 1992 so have always had a keen eye on things SEAT from that period
What a brilliant little thing, it sort of reminds me of Matra Rancho Camper put through a photocopier at 70% scaling.
Reminds me of my Renault Express 1988 1.6 4 speed.
It’s not about the speed but reliability with these vehicles.
Often put a mattress in the back of mine and it made an excellent camper van 😂
Is that a period bottle of Fairy Liquid as well? I didn’t realise how much I longed to see one again until I did!
Yes it is. Jonny is still waiting to build his rocket 🚀

how cool is that!, a camper for one person and their best friend!, where do you find these machines!
What a great lil thing. Travelling solo this would suit me to a tee.
What a treat Matt Thanks. Yes a Terra, great cars still many around here in Spain but in van form only.. I want a camper terra now drat!
Love how it looks. I thought the Mazda Bongo was the only cool looking little camper
Absolutely Awesome.
Nothing not to like here.
If you're going to keep finding these almost unknown models you'll have to change the channel to curiousdriving! 😆
Yet another totally unexpected machine!
Fantastic review! Never knew these campers existed. This is a vehicle my Citroen AX diesel could beat in a drag race - 53hp and 13.5 to 60 👍
The Marbella was replaced by the Arosa which was a badge engineered Lupo.
Remember seeing this at the motor show, loved it. It has the MK2 panda rear wheel arch unlike the Marbella.
Brilliant little machine..
It must be as rare as hen`s teeth, never knew this tiny camper existed.
I really like what the owner has done with this. :) Purchased and upgraded for a fraction of the cost of a VW Caravanette I'd wager. 😎

I miss my Marbella.
The Seat Terra was basically a Fiat Panda with a box section on the rear which was marketed as a van in the UK through Seat dealers.

Burning question Matt, this or Hubnuts Bob?
What are those blocky things sitting on the a-pillar at the belt line?
Door hinge cover.
The WAV version had a second front screen in the front panel of the box, so that the wheelchair passenger could see out.
Does anyone know the brand of the rims? They look terrific!
They are Alfa Romeo, used as an accessory on Alfetta’s, and Alfa’s of a similar age.
Very cute. Do Danbury have a record of how many they converted?
I called to ask but they’ve been sold since then and the records lost
@@furiousdriving Ah, that explains the total lack of interest when I contacted them.

The camping tea shelf
Did you say Alfa seats & alloy wheels ?
Yes, 147 seats, 70s or 80s Alfa wheels the owner said
so no triangles of doom then xD what about dribbles of dissapointment lol
