Sharp 11th Dominant 7 Chord Drill
In this lesson, we will isolate the #11 alteration which is a beautiful color to add over dominant chords. It’s one of my personal favorites and you will hear this in many of my jazz standard arrangements on PianoGroove.
Application To Jazz Standards
We start this lesson by explaining the basic theory, we then apply the theory in the context of 3 jazz standards so that you can see the practical application of the technique.
Targeting the #11 color is a very useful device when there is melodic space over a 251 progression in a jazz standard, as demonstrated in the examples.
11 Drills & Exercises
We then move onto the drills where we play ii-9 to V9(#11) to Imaj9. Again we start with the voicings covered in the Beginner Module of this course and in the subsequent lessons we will explore more embellished variations of this progression.

One thing I don't think is talked about enough is that, for us lovers of these musical idioms, this is as much a treat for the hands/fingers as it is for the ears. *Hand candy* if you will. I love watching someone who's really good, feel their way through the voicings. That's the real magic for me.
Great lesson, especially the context to put these in is interesting. Sometimes I just like mess around and see what happens. Just throw in any progression that I remember and just mix it together (as long as it makes sense of course). That's a fun way to get known to the kind of emotion an alteration gives.
Thanks...hugs from Brazil 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷

I’ve been following you for a couple years now, and you’ve made a big impact on how I approach re-harmonizing…. Thank you so much!! Your intro or header is just fine….it sets the mood!!!
This helped me a lot! Now I'll practice my II-V-I drills with #11.

Do you have to read music to take this course? I understand notation a little but I can’t read music to play because I learned by ear.
Your videos are great, but the heading is too long. 10 seconds to wait
