84 years old. This just gob smacks me. I remember Grace when she was in her 20's. Marty's gone. Paul's gone. Spencer's gone. Only 3 left from the Airplane: Jack, Jorma and Grace. Goddamn but that makes me so sad.......
One thing that every female rock singer had in common , they had to climb those stairs that were built solidly by the voice of"The Chrome Nun" !! She sat the bar so high that few ever got very close . Stevie Nicks and Ann Wilson in my opinion ,are the only two to share those upper steps with Grace. No matter her state of mind Grace emitted the vibes of a true artist. And today, watch her interviews and no matter what you see , look into those eyes and you can still feel her soul. Thank you Grace for your gift to us all !!
I grew up in the 60s but oddly, didn't know much about Grace Slick until today. I was watching a show and White Rabbit (which I hadn't heard for a long time) was playing in the background so I went to investigate who wrote it (senior memory!) I ended up on a journey of discovery about Grace Slick, including her paintings (many of which I like a lot). I did not realize what an animal lover she is, and clearly a very intelligent and vastly talented woman.
This makes me terminally nostalgic for a time that can be compared to no other. If I had to be born, at least I got to live in that era. People today are mostly shallow as hell and get butt hurt at the drop of a hat. Grace and Joan were pure gold.
You said it. This must be synchronicity in action, because yesterday I checked out her performance of White Rabbit at Woodstock. Yep -- better than I remembered! And we thought it would just get better, but sadly, it kind of all went down the crapper.
Live in nostalgia. There is a cosmic reciprocity between what has happened and one’s memory of it that provides nourishment to the soul and to the spirit of the era possessing you. It is great respect to their memory and is noticed by the unseen forces through which our vitality is influenced subconsciously. We should live in our nostalgia, but innovate, branch out, and make contemporary choices in a contemporary world and never let it become a dark void inside, but a continual fount of inspiration, or a home for the soul.
I absolutely love this lady. She could sing the Alphabet and Id be blown away. Her singing lead was amazing, but it was even more amazing is when she sang background in the choruses.
Amazing she's still alive in 2023 -- 33 years after this interview. Even more amazing is that another Bay Area icon Sly Stone is still alive at age 80! He's outlived most of his compatriots by 30 to 40 years.
Their comment on hunters. My husband and his father would hunt and bring the meat home to eat. You had to have a permit to hunt. If you hunted and killed without a permit there were hefty fines and could be jail time too. The forest service had a limit for the permit to hunt and kill as well.
Gracie slick looks so beautiful. Woodstock was on my birthday and I was fortunate enough to get Jimi Hendrix as the closer what a treat and this lady was a treat. Thanks for the upload you guys I’d love from all of us on Staten Island, New York.
They had one thing in common. Both, went to finishing school back when women were actually required to by well-to-do parents if they weren't married by a certain age. They both started their careers at the exact same time. It doesn't surprise me. They both went against the norm and won in the end. It certainly shows, here.
I heard her voice on a song the other day & realized how much I miss her. I understand why she wanted to avoid the rock scene as she aged, but contributing vocals to songs behind the scenes would have been a good compromise. That glorious singing voice still had the ability to make people's lives happier and it seems tragic that it was shut down too early.
Though I am 20 years younger then Grace, I so much grew up and love this music.. BUT I CANNOT STAND WHEN ANY PERSON WHO GETS FAMOUS OR WHATEVER….. WANTS TO TELL US WHAT TO DO …. As a rule I would never support them again, but for Grace I’ll make a exemption, her voice is just WOW, like a Tina Turner
"How old is she?" Joan asks. "19" Grace replies. 1 minute later "How old is she now?" Joan asks. Grace replies: "I just told you. 19." It was funny. Grace was always a good interview.
Amazing to see both of 'em, now. I think what we think of celebrities is determined by unfriendly photo editors. When these two women were young, BOTH of 'em were as hot as a forest on fire - and painfully smart, funny and sarcastic. You could tell by what Grace said; she was on top of it, and kinda crazy. Thanks for sharing this.
This woman has no fear. I love it. She's 100% honest, funny as hell with that quick wit. And probably the only other person besides myself that think hunting animals is not normal. I've always said this. Kill that bear with your bare hands and you can call it a sport. I'm all for shooting, I have quite a collection, but I fire at inanimate objects. Thank you Grace!
@@valeriyblinov1573 I talked to her once on the phone for about twenty minutes in 2012, mostly about her art since she had a show in Florida I was going to attend. I was given her number by her agent online and she was great to talk to.
I get it that Grace did use drugs heavily, but I don't get that her words had so much meaning! She spoke so much about the hippy movement, that made such a huge reflection on the movements against War.
Thank you for uploading this. Grace was/is always so interesting to listen to. But gosh, it almost seems like Joan had ADHD or some thing, she asked Grace twice how old her daughter was, not even two minutes apart. Plus Joan kind of talked over Grace a bit, so that was a bit annoying…. Love them both, though!!!!
Bless her for addressing the way we treat animals and the earth. I agree that hunters need therapy as well. That’s not a sport. I love you, Grace! I still get goosebumps every time I listen to White Rabbit. 💕
I'm a geezer that grew up on "Surrealistic Pillow." But, I gotta say, "Oriental" is a term for inanimate objects. "Asian" is the term for people and culture. BTW... at a concert in Denver, I saw, she was wearing a mini w/out panties. Good times. Peace on earth.

@@leadzeppbelly No Joan did not deserve that! Phenomenal talent, great voice. And….Joan Rivers is such a loss.😢. Two unique individuals.
She was 51 years old here. She was beautiful.
Stunningly!
And very smart better mem.than joan
Grace, at 50 years old and still looking so beautiful. 🎶🎤She has a great voice and she is a wonderful artist too. 🎨She can paint lovely paintings..🎨
Yes she was a pretty hot woman. Those eyes. Amazing.
Neither of those women ever sugar coated what they had to say. Real and not narcissistic.
And she is still around and is still my all time rock idol forevermore. 2023. Love you, Grace!

Great interview by Joan on this. Really talked to Grace on her level and asked excellent questions.

Love Grace Slick. Timeless. The drum intro to White Rabbit reminds me of a Spanish toreador entering a bull ring.

She’s so right about hunters.
The way she killed the hunters on TV :)
everyone is weird and uptight and socially inbred in most of the usa now. a very uncool time to live in a free country.
Sorry for my ignorance
Just find it peculiar that in 1989 I was corrected for using the word "Oriental" in the Midwest as it was supposedly what we now call not "PC".
She was still hot af is the 90s!
any body got a date on this airing?
Doesn't seem like the woman interested in mushrooms
Idk she was into cars! Me too! Lol
She's right about weirdness jumps a generation, at least in my family - both sides.
the death of the dream of the 60s. 80s/90s co-opted into vanilla bullshit
did JR big mouth get her killed?
Many had to be wondering how fried her brain was.
How did she manage to age so well? With all the drugs she did.
Her attitude about life is a bit paralell to ........John Denver
"So, how old is she?"
:I just told you."
