The belt broke on the mower. It will run, but most of the time it will not move, and the blades will not rotate at all. We normally mow the grass at 4:00.

My Troy Bilt mower is controlled by a gear driven transmission. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7. I set it to 4 mph. Cutting height, 3. I use Cub Cadet mower as well. We have to jump the battery to start it.

I have a question. I have a Huskee with a 15.5 hp Briggs. It's had starting troubles since I got it a few years ago. I've replaced the starter solenoid twice, the ignition once and replaced the battery a couple years ago. It will not start with the key. It used to until just a few days ago. Well it would at least turn over. I replaced the starter solenoid. It would turn but not start. I thought maybe the starter, but direct power to it will turn it fine. I replaced the ignition even though it tested ok. No change. I rewired the whole thing with new wire. Nothing. It will start if I jump the starter solenoid but will die as soon as I take the jump off. It will kill if, while maintaining the jump I turn the key off. I checked all the safety switched and they're fine. I cut out all the safety switches leaving only the starter solenoid and the key. Nothing. The battery is fully charged, starter works, carb solenoid works.
I can't figure out why it won't start with the key.

proelte2 The starter works fine and the carburetor is clean. I also changed the diode to the alternator/stator. If I apply power to the starter it starts, it just won't stay running and won't start with the key. I get good current through all the wires, safety switches and through the key switch. Only thing I haven't changed is the stator under the flywheel.

try the seat safety switch i had a lawn mower that switch from a Kohler to a Briggs and the seat switch mechanism was reversed either that or probably consider it a lost cause

HELP please. I & my brother put newe spindle on the Husqvarna yta 18542 but it leaves an unmowed stripe on the inner cut. Left spindle blade is untouched and normal, new spindle outer side mows same height as the "old" spindle, but the inner blade doesn't seem to be touching at all.
    HELP please.

@@repairclinic Thank you for replying. Yes, belt & blades are configured correctly. Just wondering if maybe when the broken spindle snapped if maybe enough to dent the deck?

Do yourself a favor and use ethanol free fuel stored in metal Jerry cans- our local Walmart sells 91 octane ethanol free- I can attest said fuel storage solution runs cars and mowers after 2.5 years of storage with no fuel treatment. I store my mower in the shed through the winter without emptying the fuel and try to remember to start it every month or two in the winter -after 7 years I have never serviced the carb and it starts perfect. I will never let a drop of ethanol near my small engines if I have any other choice.

Some of our gas stations are less than honest about what is in the tanks. I mean I've had problems. Still looking for something that doesn't eat up the fuel lines and diaphragm on the tiny engines. Tygon hose maybe. Some of the hose seems to disintegrate or oxidize in its package. I think a fuel cut off is sometimes an answer and good to prevent eating up the needle valve. My experience in the past led me to always top off the tank and I never had problems -of course that was with the mower which was used a lot. No rebuilds in 7 years. I think there's just too many variables and no way to test the gas before you buy it. So I just run em dry now. It is a pain and you have to shake it up. But keep trying to start it and get all the mystery fluid out. Hehe

why you call it cycle instead of stroke? i mean why don't you u use 4-cycle and 2-cycle instead of 2-stroke and 4-stroke

    • @jeffkeni

Synonymous. It means the same thing, e.g. shop cloth, shop towel, shop rag...same difference. Different strokes for different folks pardon the pun.
