I just bought the metal kit version of this direct from WPL. It cost only 10 pounds more than the RTR. Unbeatable value. So, 5 years later they still sell this one.
Phil: Way to go man, you did another great video with a good review that ended up costing me more money LMAO. Thank you, for the efforts you put in doing your videos and reviews. I believe this is the 3rd vehicle I have bought based on your videos. Cheers!
Brilliant review Phil - this sure has a lot of great metal parts for the budget price. I really liked the way you showed the flaws and explained how you corrected them, this kind of detail is so useful for anyone looking to get one of these WPL's. I'd love to see it running with some decent tyres. Always a thumbs up mate. 👍🇬🇧
Thank you for you looking at the axle in the real .. thank u!!! Yeah I’m going to run it now I can finish up. I DID THE SAME THING ON MY c34 K-M your a a life saver.. sweeet vid Working on it now
Yeah, shipped some time ago but not arrived yet. I have no idea how you manage to get ......... man ..... that was weird .... I wrote the above, and then it knocked on the door in the middle of the reply , and the post-woman was here with a Banggood WPL package ☺️ So weird, but nice. Can you ask me about some other packages, and then they maybe will arrive when I reply? 😂😂😂
Nordic RC Visions haha that is weird! Mine came direct from WPL, was meant to be here a couple of weeks back but got delayed. Look forward to your video 👍🏻
Awesome! Can't wait to see the driving video of this. I really want to see how slow it can go. Loved the squirrel video the other day by the way. How do you make your little decals?
@@TomleyRC Cool! Thanks for the reply. I've been debating on getting a hobby vinyl cutter like a Cricut but then I found out you can get pretty decent 3d printers for less than $200 so I might do one of those. I think I'll have more uses for that right off the bat.
Phil: If you want to soften up those tires first make sure you have them glued on your rims completely. Secondly, get you some WD40 and a plastic bag that you can seal like a sandwich bag, soak those tires down with the WD40, seal the bag and wait about a day and check them. keep them in the bag until your desired softness is achieved. the reason you need to have your tires glued is the WD40 will swell your tires and this will make them not fit your rims anymore, having them already glued will prevent that from happening. Good luck my friend, let me know if you do it and how it turns out for you. BTW I received my truck last week so soon I will be putting it together.
@@TomleyRC The compound for their other kits is really good i dont know why they decided......................wait i think i do know, maybe they changed the compound due to the weights they put in the tires. I dont know what you know about the military but the U.S. military use something similar on the Hummer as a run flat. Maybe the harder compound was due to them not wanting the truck running on the weights the whole time, who knows.
If WPL (understandably) aren´t making enough profit on this wonderful model to justify continued production, I´d rather that they hiked the price up instead of discontinuing production. It´s hobby grade! Well, except for the inexplicable reversion to hard-compound tyres. That´s just baffling - we watched them learn from their tyre-compound mistakes, congratulated them in the comments section on the rapid improvement...and they went back to hard tyres.
Yes Del, I think it would not hurt sales if they added a little more to it, but i think their approach is to make affordable scale models, and want to keep it under $100. As for the tyres, it's strange...I was hoping for super soft ones! Maybe they'll improve them on the next run!
On the real FJ40 and the Jeep it was copied from, both axle 'pumpkins' are oriented to the passenger side (right side) because of the position of the transfer case. It makes driving them off-road a pleasure because the axle pumpkins are both on the right side of the Jeep which allows you to easily pick the proper line to drive. Like if there's a boulder or stump in the middle of the trail, you steer to where both pumpkins will pass over it cleanly without bottoming out on it. You're not swerving right then left or something. Pity they couldn't mimic this precisely with the kit, having both driveshafts inline with one another. That would reduce the unnecessarily steep angles on the driveshafts and probably make the driveline more efficient... You're mistaken about the instructions, even if WPL is wrong. Step #11 shows both axles oriented the same way.
Great video. I just got mine yesterday and I just started doing some work on it. I see in your videos there are a couple of decals on your windows. Is that something WPL sent extra for you or were they part of the kit?? Mine seem to be missing if they are part of the kit.
Man, what a beauty! I want one so bad!!! 😮 I really hope they don't kill it. I would be willing even to pay more for it! 😐 Great review, dude! Great job! 😃
The B36 6x6 comes with metal axle gears, but nothing else is metal. It’s pretty good out the box as well if you buy the RTR, I’ve reviewed it on the channel. Cheers for the Sub 👍🏻
Hi all, I'm looking to buy a mini/micro rock crawler. Currently these two models are available in local hobby stores, WPL CP34 1/16 and Xiaomi MI Suzuki Jimny 1/16 (phone control), can't figure out which one to buy. I prefer having a physical remote but Suzuki Jimmy is scale looking and performance wise not too bad as per some UA-cam videos. They are both good it seems. Any comments please? Thank you!
Well not sure why but every time I order one of the WPL'S I wind up with smashed box and mismatched parts 🤕🤤😭 received two of the front half of the transmission and a damaged body 😢😢
China have a real issue with destroying stuff! Most of my stuff is sent priority mail, and luckily it avoids to much destruction. I've had a few though!
Nice, the question is how quality is the steel and or aluminum. Many plastics are better than low quality metals. Time will tell. The steering angle is impressive I have to say.
Yeah but 1/10 is ridiculously big. 1/12 is a GREAT compromise in size, I wouldn't want to go smaller. And if it was 1/10 it would be over $100, probably $299.00+

I'm not sure you could get a much better small scale crawler for $100. You can get other crawlers yes...but the amount of metal on this is the selling point. It's more a trail truck really. The 1/12 RC4WD's are all metal and hard body... $650+ Yes they are much better, but 6x the price!
This is a great beginner truck if you want to get into crawlers. There are better ones out there but they are also more expensive. did they flip the rear axle that way so to reduce torque twist?
Possibly, just seemed strange that it was that way.
Looks like the CG should be lower and are the tires filled with foam?
No foam in the tyres. The wheel weights that come with the kit will help with the CofG
