Best part is that sir Christopher Lee - actually knew how to fence
RIP a giant of a man.
Yes he did. That's actually why Count Dooku's lightsaber hilt is curved. Christopher Lee wanted it to be curved to feel more like the fencing foils he was accustomed to using.
Why the "-" in your comment? This is one of the weirdest grammar mistakes I have seen.
@@Zwijger it's used to denote a pause, in this context. Grammatically incorrect, sure, but it reads right.
@@mattjack3983Actually that is not true. I have only ever seen that said on youtube as hearsay without any other valid sources. Wookepedia states that the Art Department Assistant Roel Robles drew inspiration from various Filipino swords, knives, and spears; the Barong, one of them, had a curved handle which provided a firmer grip for its bearer
As you've said - one of the unfortunate drawbacks of this particular type of replica as well as the thin neck sabers like Luke's blade from ep. 6 is the very shallow blade socket. It limits the amount of stress the blade can handle.
Love that smile on your face on seeing your saber.
Never lose that spark, my friend.
Do an analysis of the Winkie guard’s “halberds” in the original Wizard of Oz.
I've always loved how they incorporated the actual actor's self into their light sabers or they let the actor choose their own light saber. Like how Mace Windu got a purple light saber because Samuel L Jackson asked for one, or how Christopher Lee has a hilt built in the style of fencing since he was a fencer.
I would love to see more long videos like this from you! Its not boring in the slighttest. Great video!
I can’t believe Superman was nice enough to show us these.
Superman? Don’t be silly, that’s Clark Kent..
@@AwfulWeather5684 sorry they look similar. But they are different people!
i love your lightsaber reviews. i really appreciate the way you give importance to its ergonomics and combat efficiency. thats not seen very much in the lightsaber community. i guess your hema background adds to the knowledge.
My favorite saber to duel with when I was a kid was dooku’s. I mean I looked like an idiot not knowing how to use it. But I FELT elegant and civilized.
Same, its why no matter what other jedi or sith lightsaber that either is or has come out. Dooku’s lightsaber will always be my favourite, simply because or how awesome and stylish and elegant it is
My sir, I am loving the thumbnail of this video. The contrasting lighting from the red lightsaber and the white light on your face looks really good and really reflect the look of evil and superiority. Not to mention the “overcoat drape-thing” on your shoulder.
It just looks so good.
Thanks! That's pretty much exactly what I was going for :)
That is great Count Dooku was one of my favorite lightsaber duels. From the movie at the start of Revenge of the Sith, it was a wonderful fight. Anakin won the fight with mechanics, and fairly.
I appreciated that they gave him a bit more to do with it in one hand than his Ep II choreography
Dookus saber art was terrifying, it was literally a counter, and would make you look clumsy.
Send a raven, Clark Kent has now unboxed the signature-of-superiority lightsaber!
Dude looks dapper!
I also saw somwhere when someone talked about Ahsoka's curved lightsabers is that with a curved design you can flip the hilt around so cutting motions follow the arc of your hand, similar to the Japanese Tachi.
That smile, you can feel the Dark Side, can't you? It's a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural.
Dooku discovered pistol grip in the SW universe.
I've always liked Count Dooku's lightsaber too! When I was really little it was the light saber that i wanted the most. (got the children's plastic one. IDK where it went)
Your honest smile at see the saber give me years of life, sir ❤
I grew up watching Star Wars. And when I saw Count Dooku duel with Anakin and Obi-wan. I just loved his fighting style
I am big time form and function over everything, so am fine with exceptions made to accuracy that keeps buttons away from grip areas. Much prefer blasters were harder to access than, say, the Shin Hati sabers I've seen where you are going to be doing it all of the time.
Something in the app that maybe disables button function in some ways would be great.
Also would be great if they made larger pommels like that as a part you could add to toss some larger speakers in these. Doesn't look like the diameter is increased on this one, but these saber companies should certainly consider this. 🙏🙏
Yeah, I'll always prefer faithful fidelity to play features. Even as a kid, I was always miffed when some toy had an oversized barrel for a spring loaded shooter and ruined an otherwise respectable depiction of some vehicle or other.
@@robinswords definitely feel they can bring the two together with these. With swappable parts, some can be more accurate, another can boost sound. That would be sweet.
It's tough cause there's almost competing interest in these. Some all about accuracy, some like me fine to sacrifice for the other features.
And I have a hard time expressing myself constructively about it, lol. 😅
It reminds me of the Black Series AT-ST. Despite the host of issues it had, the great thing it did was provide two different chin turrets. One was a spring dart shooter that was all out of proportion, and the other was an accurate turret to-scale. It was up to you which you used. I liked that consideration.
@@robinswords yes, this is absolutely the way. Perfectly doable with the sabers, too.
Either have a separate pommel, or like the one on the crossguard with a removable bit.
I'm thinking they could do some two piece units that easily hold 28mm or even 31mm speakers. Found some 27s I can make work, and it's a big difference.
You hear more, but then also FEEL it. Especially on ignitions, it gives a nice little bump. Feels powerful. 😅
Oh neat! Now you have Maul's saber and Dooku's saber, two of the awesomest lightsaber designs in Star Wars.
Twice the lightsabers, double the fun!
This is where the fun begins
The most honorable swordsman online ⚔️🛡️
Love the breakdown. Thank you for posting.
Just a Reminder
Robin Look’s Amazing
Incredible Presentation
Also my all-time favorite lightsaber hilt design.
First time I've watched one of your vids. One of my roomies sent me this one. I love your wall swords and the bird. Thanks for the vid I loved Dukie's saber hilt. Thanks for the great video.
That's a pretty cool Recreation of Dooku's Lightsaber
I'm not planning on watching this, but you deserve a like for the thumbnail.
I am now the proud owner of a light saber just like this!
It arrived today in fact and I absolutely love it.
The grip on the hilt is a little too grippy, it hurts my soft hands and my wrist is being put through the ringer swinging it around in one hand.
But these are things I can work on.
I haven't fenced in years but the instincts are still thea, as I'm pointing and sweeping again and it feels fantastic.
Currently forcing myself to use form one for more control and better handling.
My boxing training is helping me to slip back into old/standard stance.
Gotta find the hand squeezesrs to increase my grip strength next tho too!
I really like your longer videos
It was this moment, when Robin decided to grow a mustache.
And beard
Hearing you so exited makes me super exited! Lol! Congrats on the saber!
Thanks! I'm still picking it up to fiddle with it when I pass by its stand months later.
I enjoyed that vicariously just now. Thats how we all would've smiled too. Nice!
hey rob. I got mine from flaresabers yesterday. Same saber with a different sticker on the box. i will have this blessed piece of aluminum at the hurricanes game next week in full dooku regalia. this sword is everything i wanted in a Count of Sereno blade and much more. The Bluetooth control and preloaded fonts are fabulous.
Ah, fantastic! I'm not going but I wish you a wonderful troop!
Disney needs to hire you asap as a coordinator for their lightsaber duels. Seriously.
Can you do an in-depth video on curved vs normal vs double bladed lightsabers and what your preference would be if you were in the star wars universe?
Curved-hilt sabers are my favourite, I wish more star wars RPGs let you use them
Not trying to sound weird but you have a very pleasant voice. I could listen to you talk for hours, love your videos!
Thanks!
When I get a Dooku saber, i'm fr gonna go outside swing it around and pose elegantly and play Clone Wars scenes in my head when he's fighting off either Anakin, sometimes with Obi-Wan, Ventress, or Anakin again, and again, and again lol. This one is definitely in the top 3 of most anticipated lightsabers. Amazing!
That's what I did 😁
Curved hilt is my favorite style of lightsaber variant, my own design would be durasteel and wood with a green blade
I need to get a Dooku hilt for my collection!
I’d love to see a comparison of your two Dooku sabers. And maybe a look at your whole lightsaber and weapon collection someday.
Would you consider trying a pistol grip (aka Visconti grip, orthopedic grip) from modern sport fencing on a historical sword like a rapier or smallsword? What are the potential downsides?
Beautiful
Damn I might have to buy one
Sword Morty hitting us with another banger.
I'm happy for you.
I would love one of these for sparring purposes honestly
I would love to see this used in a duel.
Can you analyze the fight at the cliff top in the princess bride?
Oh to have another saber as perfect as dooku. Makashi made easy.
reminds me if Seifer's gunblade
Its the grip that makes its the grip that makes dookus lightsaber so dangerous
Can you do a video on Tiandi from for honor, specifically his dodge attacks and follow ups
Would you say there could be any actual advantage to a curved hilt sword in real life ?
Why is there no budget version like other neopixel/baselit lightsabers? I don’t mean a budget replica Dooku lightsaber, I mean any kind of curved lightsaber hilt to fully utilize the Makashi form and made for dueling.
And when I meant curved, I meant the entire hilt, not the one where you just switched the bottom portion/pommel part of the lightsaber to be curved while the rest remains straight.
Count Dooku vs. Aniken in " The harder they don't come!"
What artsaber do you suggest for sparring? Maybe one of the two-bladed ones that unscrews so I have one for a sparring partner?
I'd avoid pixel blades and go for a baselit if you want to spar. Double bladed can make for good deals though.
You should get some Practical Lightsabers. The ones they Use in Dojos
I have no idea where to drop this question, so this is as good a place as any. I have an affinity for canes and cane swords, and you se like the kind of guy who owns at least one of either. Any chance of getting any content along those lines? And if not, any idea where I might find any? I spent all last year making a cane sword for myself and I've found a disappointing lack of information on how to train with the thing.
What advantage, if any, does a curved handle give you? Does it really change anything?
I wouldn't describe it as an advantage, just a difference. It brings your point more in line with your arm which makes aiming thrusts easier but certain cuts harder.
He seems like such a likable person
I know you do a lot of Star Wars stuff, but what's your take on the Dune universe, with it's focus on blade combat?
Considering he does HEMA, I have to wonder. Does he actually learn and practice genuinely Lightsaber forms? Like, straight up the same moves and techniques(minus the Force) used by the Jedi
When I started charging mine it said charging but the xeno app has stayed on the same battery for the past couple of hours is that a problem.
I don't know that the app will be accurate if it's actively charging. It might update the battery level once you turn it on again.
Is there any place that produces a curved lightsaber that is actually usable in sparring?
Why did I never think to ask, are there any historical examples of a curved hilt on a blade?
Komari Vosa was before Venteess, in fact Ventress' sabers are Vosas. Play the Bounty Hunter video game
It's one of my favorite Star Wars games. I highly recommend anyone that's remotely a fan of Fett or Mandalorians in general give it a try. Though the difficulty does have some wild spikes; the nexu that are essentially one-shot-kill jump-scares, and the tusken snipers that will 360 no-scope you out of the air come to mind. I could never finish it as a kid; I was too terrified of the Bando Gora horde.
If this is in regards to my other video about crediting Ventress with the saber first, my rationale was that while Vosa was inspired by the Sith Villainess, Ventress just straight up is the Sith Villainess. When looking at the concept art, who does it more resemble? As the curved hilt originated with the Sith Villainess, I think the inheritance falls to the more exact adaptation, but I do realize it's a subjective topic and I wouldn't fault anyone for making the claim it should be credited to Vosa as the first published adaptation of the Sith Villainess.
I've seen you play vr games before, but I was wondering if you've ever given swordsman VR a shot? It definitely has some historical stances and techniques in it.
The lightsaber that chopped Anakin's arm off.
Count Dooku : Master Kenobi, you disappoint me. Yoda holds you in such high esteem. Surely you can do better!
Clark Kent needs swords?
I wonder have you seen lightsaber competitions?
I definitely feel the weed wacker energy
“If you or a loved one is suffering from Peyronie’s disease…”
I diddnt know Clark Kent owned a lightsaber!
For a duel, you gonna make someone jealous? 😂
Seen a couple of your shorts pop up, neat stuff, but I cannot take you seriously after seeing this.
You looks like Harry Potter wearing a Lightsaber
Very unrelated question, do you have a bird? If yes can we see your bird?
I have parakeets :) I've posted them before but I'll see if I can persuade them to make an appearance; they're very wary of the camera.
Manners…and lightsaber…maketh man.
7:22 💀
You look very handsome :)
Harry Potter and the Sith Order of Fencing
The trigger is inaccurate it should be clear red plastic
You can see even in officially licensed replicas and in the movies themselves that it's not a clear red😊
I see a hot guy, I click
More like Count Doodoo hehehahahaha
6:11 palpatine returned, somehow.
6:56 "Look at how straight this all is."
Speak for yourself, that's not how a lot of us are feeling at this moment.
*bullpups your lightsaber*
Worst Star Wars name. Jar jar binks is the close second. Dooku. What the hell were you thinking, George?
Disney star wars is garbage
Robinswords. yeah. incredible video, talk to you soon~
Loved this review! It is certainly on the more stylish side of lightsabers, and really reflects Count Dooku’s personality.
Loved the cape and one handed fencing too!
He knows his form II.
He seems like such a likable person
