Cross RC EMO NT4 Review & Test
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 лют 2024
- We've had a lot of Cross RC vehicles on the channel these past years. But this one is special in part because its relatively cheap and still a full-function rig - that's including lights, 2-speed, remote locking diffs and a heavy-duty drive train and steering system. There's a lot to like!
But look a little deeper and it isn't all so rosy. ...Well, it still mostly is, but we've had a problem. Tune in and we'll go over it, while it goes over our 6-problem course!
Let's test!

What: Cross RC EMO NT4 1/10 4X4 RTR lexan-body crawler
Buy: www.crossrc.us/shop/nt-4-emo-...
Or: www.aliexpress.us/item/100500...
(I bought from AliExpress as I can't get it from the Cross RC USA store)
There's also a 6x6 variant of this truck, the EMO NT6. Just FYI :)
Motors:
I found the included motor a bit fast for crawling and I wanted better drag brake too. So, I went with a Holmes Hobbies 27T Trailmaster Sport 550. It's pretty much perfect with stock gearing in 2S and 3S. My trail driving was done on 2S with this motor and I really like it.
Buy here: www.asiatees.com/featured?ran...
ESC:
I've fitted a WP-1080 for better control now. Buy here: asiate.es/aff?l=98793&i=76070
Also in this video, I fitted different wheels and tires. I sealed the vent holes. The metal wheels added about 100g on each corner which helped its crawling, lowering the center of gravity. An easy way to improve this model!

Cross RC up and coming! TomleyRC is putting together the XX10 T-Rex kit right now, absolute unit with some beautiful machine work!
Is he really? There you go. I've passed on it mainly because I have nowhere to store it, or build it! That'll be great 😊
Ok I'm ordering a container so I can move a bunch of cars into it. Then I'll have benches again and I can reconsider building this monster!
I've got one and hands down CrossRC is the best value to performance money can buy.
They're really doing stellar work these days, aren't they
Dumbo RC transmitters work very well. Dependable too. Nice little truck!
I have 13 of them and quite a few more receivers. All the transmitters are fine. This one receiver was not. I've had two in total with issues, out of maybe 18 or 20. I agree, they're generally good 👍
Ive always liked the look of Unimogs and Id bet with a bit of simple mods this thing would be unreal awesome. Slowing it down I think is a really important part of making this thing deadly on the rocks.
Agreed. Short of going brushless (FOC 1800kv would be perfect), I've fit a WP-1080 and HH 27T 550. That's already better than the 35T 540 it came with, but I think even more turns would be good, given 2nd gear is plenty tall. A 35T 550 might be the go. It's super fun on the trails, I'm really enjoying it.
About time lol great video Craig very thorough details about the car the front end biast weight is really good it handled my test course stock tyre's are amazing for stock adding some beadlocks and brass it's next level your right about that drag brake is a problem for a crawler has the downhill speed of a kraton ...two part body is fantastic aswell cross rc are starting to get the attention they deserve and half the price of a trx4 great vid Craig have a great weekend mate 👊
Thanks. I've been enjoying this thing on various different terrains, it's quite good. Cheers
Great video💯
This one is a great unimog from CrossRC 👍💪😉
Congrats ❤️🔥
It's a great rig, I've used it a few times already and have really been enjoying it
What a solid fun rig. I wish the body was a hard one instead of lexan, but I always tend to go for the hardcore side of scale.
The tray with canvas is apparently ABS, at least
Really love my emo chassis truck I have the JT4 i bought as a kit and added brass upgrades.
Nice. I don't have a JT model but I think it's one of their cooler models!
I don't usually like these kind of trucks, but this one is pretty cool looking. Nice tires too. The ad in the beginning was perfect for those of us who don't know it was a thing, way back when. I have that same receiver and it's ok once you dry it out good. I blow mine out with a duster and let them sit in front of a fan overnight.
Most electronics are fairly resilient to water, yeah. Worth taking the time to waterproof it though. Glad you enjoyed it, cheers
Another cool crawler. Thanks for the tip on the Carisma ESC, too! I’m in the market, as it were.
No worries. It's easy to recommend
Thank you for sharing a good video with a nice car! 💯👍👍 Beautiful scenery, wonderful vehicles. That's a great video. 😍😍
Thanks!
Love the title! "It's mostly epic" 😂 It's definitely a great looking rig and looks like a lot of fun. Would love to see a future video "It's Totally Epic" 👍🏼
Haha yeah fair enough! It's a keeper so we'll probably get there!
Awesome video great run definitely a good looking rig
Thanks, I like it a lot. Have modified it a bit since this video, too. It's very nice.
The NT4 looks awesome and performs really well it seems. I prefer the styling of the JT4, and hope to get one in the near future. I'm fairly certain it shares the same chassis platform as the NT4. My current wish list from Cross RC is the XT4, but I can't find a comprehensive review of it. I like to research before I purchase. 😄
That's fair enough. The NT4 is different to the AT4/JT4, but the end product is still the same.
The XT4 is entirely different, though. Can't wait to get that together! Thanks for bearing with me on that, it'll happen!
Just had to get through health and new dog at the start of the year, Nationals (this coming weekend) and then hopefully I'll be able to settle back into my regular video cadence. XT4 will happen! Cheers
Nice review as always! Pretty nice looking trail truck that would really pop with an interior and some scale accessories. It'll be interesting to see what the quicrun system and some weight down low does in improving the crawling experience. Very impressive features for almost $200 less than a trx4 is going for at my LHS. Thanks a bunch and take care!
Thanks Chris, I really like this thing too! I've just realised I edited out the section where I say the trail run footage is with the 1080, 27t 550 motor and weighted tires on injora wheels. So, now you know.
It's more capable on the rock problems now, but it still can't get problem 3!
@@RCTNT What do you think is preventing it from getting a perfect score?
Hmm, probably its higher center of gravity. Hard to avoid with any kind of scale body really, but that would be the big one. Getting some more weight down low on the front axle could get it over the line. It certainly has clearance already and it's easy to drive. It's close.
@RCTNT That makes sense. It's a great looking body but it is tall. Maybe it will conquer the problem or maybe it won't but either way it's a winner in my books. Well done Cross RC!
Awesome Unboxing and Cool Review!!!
The new 6x6 is in The List of Wish HéHéHé!!!
🙏
very nice crawler my friend🤟🚗🤟
I like it, yeah!
Nice 👍🏾I got my 1st Cross RC a couple of weeks ago, the JT-6. I my 1st time even seeing any Cross RC, and i'm loving it so far. I was worried about the build quality prior to receiving it. I could tell instanly while taking it out of the box, it was good to go. i can't wait ti purchase another.
Hey that's a great choice! I've been running cross rc rigs for some years now - look on this channel and you'll find quite a few different ones. They're very good, with the scale detail of rc4wd and the rugged durability of the mainstream manufacturers. I'm a fan 😍
Excellent review. Mine is still sitting in the box. 👍👍👍👍
Oof, I know that feeling, haha. Enjoy it when you get to it!
There are only few RTR cars that offer this set of features and getting all that with no obvious weak points out of the box is also not something we see all that often. Makes me look forward to your take on XT4 even more 😋
At this stage I'm considering not building the XT4 on a live stream, as life circumstances have changed and won't give me the freedom I had for a few months at least. So, I'll start building the XT4 soon and I'll get a bunch of photos and video as I go, so I can show it all off in the review video.
@@RCTNT I hope it was a change for the better. I will be looking forward to your impressions and review of the XT4.
Haha yes, but there's a time investment up front. Things will get back to normal in a month or three.
Looks like a banger, especially for the money
I had some cut-outs with that receiver, but since replacing it and getting the shift trims correct, it's been a new favourite. It's really nice to drive.
there are also a 6x6 version of the Mog.
Yes! I saw that the day after I bought my 4x4, lol! But I'm happy with it, what a great truck. The 6x6 would be super fun too 😁
Looks good and it’s fun to have other trucks for the money in the US. It would have to be at Traxxas.!!!,Trx4
This looks awesome love your videos, I'm looking at getting a nice scale truck. Have you ever had/tried the absima Landi? Thanks again for your videos really enjoy them.
Thanks 🙏
I haven't tried that car, but it looks like a TRX4 clone with an ABS body that attaches with 4 wing nuts. Looks kinda fiddly, but given its a TRX4 clone, I'm sure it drives well. I'm unlikely to try it given I attempt to avoid clones where I can, but that body looks so nice I almost want to make an exception!
@@RCTNT haha thank you for the reply, yes the body looks awesome and because I can't actually find any reviews (I can understand) it seems like a rare rig to have. Please if you do make an exception (treat yourself) let me know as I'm torn between this (I love the defender) and the ftx outback tracker. Trx a bit out of budget 😂.
@Anglian-Rc the outback tracker is the RGT Rescuer, right? If that's the case, it's an excellent car and easy to recommend. Fwiw, if I really liked the Landi body enough to buy it, my expectation would be that it'll be just as good as the others. They're probably from the same factory, but even if not, they look so similar I'd expect the modem reliability everything seems to have these days. I'm guessing, but I'd be confident enough to spend the money if I wanted it.
@@RCTNT awesome thank you yes that the one I believe they are the same. I think I might have to get the absima Landi then 😂 got to love the scale interior and opening doors 😂
Liked and subscribed. Nice review.
Do I detect a lot of torque twist, or my eyes deceive me?
Cause, I don't like it.
But I do like this truck.
I didn't notice much and I've had it out beyond just the review video. Portals help minimise that. I like this rig.
Hey. I've bought one of these and I'm going to do the upgrades you suggested. Any tips on getting the motor out. I've only had buggies and they were pretty simple. Great videos btw 🎉
It's pretty straight forward. My best tip is to look at the manual, there's an exploded parts diagram that shows you how it fits together. It's a handful of screws to remove the cowl over the front of the motor housing, then it just lifts out. Once you do it you'll find that it's really not difficult, though it might look complex at first glance. You can do it!
Cheers for the reply, I'll let you know how I get on 😊
Very nice bro👌👌, shame about the waterproofing though, but jus a minor, how much are they in uk money 🤔
It's just the receiver that needs waterproofing. The rest of it is ready to go 👍
Price? You'll have to work that out.
I'm in the market for a 1/10th scale crawler I'd be looking to upgrade as I go do you think this would be the best option for me or maybe the AT4 JT4 kits? or would I be better with a TRX4 or SCX10 or one of the other 10th scales? I currently have an RGT Adventurer and an xmaxx (not a crawler I know) but I'm looking for something to scratch the 1/10th itch.
You're spoiled for choice, that's for sure. Check out my AT4 review, and also the BRX01 for something a bit different. The Vanquish VS4-10 Phoenix is another fun one.
These are three very impressive kits and I think the JT4 would be fun, too, though I didn't bother with doing a video as it's an AT4 underneath.
There's another interesting hard body kit here that I need to get to that you might consider: the EMO XT4. Premium! Haven't got a video on that yet.
Are you driving both trucks at the same time in this video plus recording.?
No, that's Simon's legs in the background near the start. His TRX4 has made a few appearances on the channel!
I think it'd be better to have a really small 3s lipo, or half size 2s lipo for reviews and rock tests.
But then maybe this time big 3s helped with grip, but still hampered CG
Most crawl tests are conducted with a Turnigy Nanotech 700mah 3S 70C battery, or a 2200mah 2S 35C when needed. In this case I chose to use a bigger, 2200mah 3S 40C battery as it seemed more appropriate - noone will be running this thing in comps, so I wanted to find a balance between lower battery weight and larger trail sized battery.
I assumed it was 6k mAh 😅
Wouldn't comment otherwise
You're right and that's my fault. I showed the huge battery, that's reasonable!
I want the 6x6 version of it
Yes! I didn't know about the 6x6 version when I ordered this last year but saw it soon after. Me too.
@@RCTNT sadly cross rc is more uncommon with an increased price here in the states. I still plan on the 6x6 and emo x to go with my marksman
@@ToGrimmToWin Yeah it's hard to justify these in the States when they're nearly the same cost as Traxxas, but with reduced aftermarket support. I wish we could get the 6x6 version in the US at the relatively low prices these go for in Europe!
screw the r/c version, I want a full sized! I've been looking at mini trucks like the honda Acty and Suzuki Carry....perfect for me but I need 4 wheel drive.
A little 4x4 ute (pickup) would be rad, yeah
@@RCTNT 660 cc engines, you're not going to win any races but with the fold down flaps on the bed, you can carry 4 x 8 sheets of plywood no prob.
One question: Why is the company angry?
Cross, Really Cross? Dunno, but it sounds serious.
@@RCTNT I was working on a design for a customer on the computer and the salesman was sitting next to me: "put a cross hatch in there to add texture"
Me: I cannot, but I'll put a happy hatch in there
He: Giving me the stink eye "do that again and I swear to god I WILL kill you" lol
Fusion 1200 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻ftw
I think the 1800kv would be the one to get for this rig
@@RCTNT agreed a little extra wheel speeds and gobs of low speed control cheers mate love the channel all the way for the US
