I am On-Air when you do your morning video, so I always catch you afterwards... Thanks for the Videos! I run 2 mics depending on what I am doing. Rode NTK, and a Rode NTG Shotgun. Thanks for always providing great content.
Subscribed to your channel, bought and read BOTH of your books and applied most of the Blueprint steps I could with my current budget. One month later: 2 ongoing UA-cam narration gigs and 6 audiobook narration contracts! August revenue projected at just over 2x of July. Thank you!!!
I have to agree. It's a confidence thing. If I'm slightly less confident with mic A versus mic B, I'm afraid my performance may be nuanced in some negative manner. That's my perception as silly as that may sound. So your thought on the subject is very rationale to me.
Yes, tomato juice is great for getting that skunk smell out of most dogs' fur- My folks ran a dog boarding kennel and the dogs would get themselves into any kind of mischief they could find, all in good fun!
In the case of noise coming in from outside the house, a dynamic mic would have done better than the shotgun. They don't pick up sound more than a few feet very well. This is why singers use them in live performances. You see them with their mouth right up on the mic, and this helps them eliminate stage noises (instruments, walking and jumping around, etc.) while they sing. I definitely prefer a large diaphragm condenser mic for VO though. We each have to deal with our own situations.
Great video Bill and great insight. I own both the TLM 103 and the Sennheiser 416 I also own a Sennheiser MK 4. I have noticed the difference between the Sennheiser 416 and the TLM 103 is to me that the TLM 103 is much more articulate then the Sennheiser ,the king in my opinion is the TM 103. It’s just very articulate has a full bodied sound.
The 416 comes into its own when you record more than one voice talent in the same room and you want to keep leakage down. Also, they are a nice choice for video when you need to keep the mic out of frame. For the non-engineer types, there are great lower-cost alternatives to the TLM103 and the MKH416, but when you want to instill confidence in new or potential clients it never hurts when your signal chain is comprised of easily recognized 'industry standard' gear.

That is a super tight cardioid mic! I remember seeing you use it. My Zoom H5 has one, too. Great mic!

I also live in Gardner, KS - it was cool to hear someone else.

ever try the TLM 49 compared to the 103?

It's like two expensive suits. Both are great, but one feels a bit different than the other.
General geek here!
Excellent perspective!!! Being a bassist, I agree with the musical instrument analogy!!!
You’re on the target Goodmorning :0
Is it just my set up or is anyone else hearing clicks and pops occasionally?
