It's a beautiful production, Beatlesque and heartfelt. The fact that Paul never gave up on the poorly recorded original is a testament to his dedication to his former bandmates, especially to John.
I loved it. I cannot understand those people who say they expected more - they heard the original, so what did they expect 'more' - a completely different song? It was beautifully done, and I listened through tears and smiles.
Glad you love it and I agree with what you say. When you think of the starting point of this song, what they have achieved here is nothing short of remarkable
@@knockedoutloaded279 It’s called the Beatles- now and then ( has a pic of Russian themed Abbey Road) If the vocal was the new mal version, it would be amazing.
Wow, isn’t it great to live at this time. Hearing the last Beatles song takes me back to when I heard my first Beatles song in 1964. They were so amazing, changed music forever. We love you, John, Paul, George and Ringo! Love this song, heartfelt. Incredible. 👏 🎵
I loved it, getting John's vocal separated so cleanly was so necessary for this song. He loved putting effects on his voice so the vocal sound just works. The arrangement and performance is excellent and I find it really emotional. As a Beatles fan I'm over the moon.
Glad to hear you re so happy with the song and you're dead right, John never liked his the sound of his voice so always liked effects like reverb all over it. great comment
Thank you for your enthusiastic and wonderful review. This song is magnificent and very touching. I don't see how it could be better.,especially since the original demo seemed to me to be weak and plodding. The anticipation of this song reminded me of the feeling I had with each new Beatles release in the 60's. This is a musical moment to be treasured which reminds us of everything we appreciate about the Beatles.
You're welcome and I totally agree with everything you say here. Really glad you love it so much and like you say, what has been achieved here is nothing short of remarkable
What can I say except it has exceeded all of my expectations. I heard it on the radio at work when BBC Radio Two played it just after the 2pm News bulletin, there were two of my colleagues with me at the time and needless to say we were all blown away by this song. One of the guys was finishing at three and declared he was off to get himself a copy of , as he put it this Beatles Classic on my way home. I cannot get over what has been done with John's vocal, this is astonishing stuff and well done to all involved in making this happen. It literally sounds like they were all together in the studio to record it. As the song progressed and oh how I didn't want it to end, one thing did cross my mind. When you see how they've made John sound so clear on this song, maybe they need to give this treatment to Free As A Bird and Real Love with an updated remix. But they have done themselves proud with this song, and they have done John and his memory proud with it too. I know what you mean about the strings, very I am the Strawberry Walrus, and Paul's nod to George with his slide playing was just so beautiful. What a truly powerful, emotive and beautiful way to bring to an end the greatest story in Pop music history. Well done Fellas, the audition has been well and truly passed.....
Brilliant comment Terry. totally agree with everything you say here. Really glad you love it so much and like you say, what has been achieved here is nothing short of remarkable
Hearing the original demo tape and then playing the new sound--really is night and day. I'm so happy to be able to listen to a new Beatles song after all these years. Looking forward to hearing the new 2023 remixes on the Red and Blue albums.
Listening to the Worldwide Premiere of The Beatles new song ‘Now and Then’ at 2pm on the Scott Mills BBC Radio programme today was a much more emotional experience than I had ever imagined or anticipated. The lyrics are so poignant in terms of The Beatles themselves but also for anyone who has experienced loss. Everyone that knows me knows how much I love The Beatles, they’ve been a constant in my life, but I don’t really have the words to convey how deeply this new song has touched me today. As I listened I thought of all the family and friends I’ve known and lost and I’m not ashamed to admit I wept. Peace ☮️ Love ❤️
I'm a musician and I loved hearing the Beatles Now And Then Beatley and I found it beautiful and moving,I actually cried listening to it,God bless the Beatles. Bob
I was transported to another world for some minutes. The chord change after "now and then" gave me chills. I was blown away. That’s a proper Beatles song. Amazing. We're all alive and we heard it on the day of its historical release. The Beatles will live on.
Thanks for the disection of the song and you captured some very key points that I had missed. I love it! The way the world is today we all need something to brighten these dark days. Looking forward to seeing the video
Thanks very much Bruce, glad you enjoyed the video. Yes the world could really do with The Beatles in it at them moment - I thought that too. Thanks for a great comment
Hi Tone & like yourself yesterday was a magical moment hearing this absolute gem of a song for the first time & yes there were several unofficial AI mixes all over UA-cam for weeks but nothing comes close to this beauitiful song..... John's vocal sounds as if he was recording it live but for me the backing by all 4 Beatles is the highlight & added to the strings it's one helluva way to go out singles-wise!! The middle eight slide guitar just had me in tears & believe me it's been a long long time since any song has had that effect on me!! Love Me Do should not be forgotten as presented here in full stereo is just brilliant as well which is great news for the Red & Blue remixes plus the future box sets, Many thanks for your video.
You're welcome Stevie. I never bothered to listen to any of those AI efforts just waited for the song and wow - so worth the wait. Im glad you love it too and it just seems to get better each time I play it. It's been a very emotional week for us all and it seems just about everyone has been affected. Agree about love me Do as well. thanks for a great comment
I totally agree with you Tone about this amazing track. I am completely "stunned" by everything, song, production, instrumtation, vocals, John's voice is so crystal clear and in itself very emotional. It was on the 3rd play did I fill up and tears rolled down my face as I thought about my Dad who passed away just over two years ago 😢 I would have been sitting with him listening to this and watching the documentary too. Some of the words pointed to not only him but also my mother who passed away some time ago and to my younger brother who died in a motorbike accident in 1984, he was only 20 years old. We had been to Liverpool for the day and been round Beatle City and he being a guitarist just fell in love with John and George's guitars that were on display there. He went out with one of friends who had came round to pick him and go and play pool and he never came back. I do think of them all Now and Then, well quite often. So in a nutshell this was 100% better than I thought it would be and the Beatle magic is still there. ❤❤❤❤
Thanks for a great comment Maurice . Im glad you have taken so much from the song but very sorry for your loss(es). You will think about them whenever you hear this song, which is a huge positive
Ohhh. My heart lifted up to my eyebrows. Many plays of it this morning & it will remain there for a long time. Tears streamed down the cheeks. love forever, Lindy Lu from Oz (Australia)
Tone, I can't believe you used the 2 words I have used to describe this recording: Absolutely stunning! For once, I'm pretty much at a loss for words! I have always like the melody to this song, but I never could have dreamed such an absolutely stunning recording could have been realized from such a subpar quality demo. I'm gonna leave it here, as I'm completely spent. One last thing: I'm very pleased with Love Me Do. You can really hear the tone of Paul's Cavern bass 🙂
Great minds and all that Pete eh 😂 Glad you love the song as much as I do. What has been achieved here is remarkable. Agree about the bass on Love me Do
I've noticed the complementary thing with the lyrics on both tracks of the single. Love Me Do... "I'll always be true.... please love me do". Now and Then.... "I know it's true...... I will love you". Overall Now and Then has turned out better than I expected. I do miss the "I don't want to lose you" section. Interesting the comments back in interviews years ago they mentioned about lack of lyrics...but actually now there are less lyrics than the demo?
Good point. Im actually not too bothered about losing the I dont Wanna lose you bit I wasnt sure it fitted. Glad they lost the use and abuse you lyric too
Hi Tone, Thanks for all your great videos, it's made this week even more special! I listened at 2pm (whilst at work) on radio2 (uk) on a not very good car radio and was slightly unimpressed. However, when I got home and listened properly, I thought it was quite good. Now after a dozen listens it's really growing on me! Another thing growing on me is the cover! It is obviously based on the Red & Blue cover pics, sort of blurred out, with each line of text on a balcony. As you go up to the top you have blue sky, I can imagine Paul and Ringo up there on the NOW balcony, close to John and George in the sky. The middle balcony has Paul, Ringo and George and represents the Anthology Days - AND. THEN you would have the Fab Four at the bottom! Well that's what I see anyway!! Thanks again, Dan.
Thanks very much Daniel, it's been hectic but what a week we've had eh. The song grows and grows with repeated plays Im finding. Still not liking the cover but haven't got a physical copy yet - still waiting for them to arrive. I like your vision , its a shame they didnt consult you before they went ahead 🙂
Thanks for your reaction tone. Totally agree with you. I listened to it on headphones at 2 pm today, when it was released on streaming. When John's voice came in I filled up.
What an exciting day! I do love the new song, and it's been just amazing to see the all the comments from fans around the world, young and old, coming together to hear a new record by our favorite band. I had sort of assumed the piano was the cleaned up copy of John's performance, but as you say it's probably new recording. Tonally it sounds a lot like Paul's style, maybe playing his super-fancy Bosendorfer at Hog Hill Mill.
Absolutely stunning says it all Tone ! What a wonderful day this has been. So happy that Paul did not let this beautiful song get swept under the rug and forgotten. Tomorrow should be a good one as well. Take care Tone, thanks for all your time making such enjoyable videos.
Tone, mate! More great content. I have withheld my impressions of the new single, mainly because I know that first impressions can radically change. So now that I have listened to the song a number of times, I think I am ready to share my impressions. First of all, let me preface these by saying I have heard the John demo version of "Now and Then" and I have always thought that it was fine...for a demo. Now after hearing the Beatles version, I will say while I am not blown away by the song itself and I doubt it will ever be a favorite of mine, there are aspects of this project that do blow me away. First the technology still amazes me. The fact that they were able to isolate John's vocals is VERY impressive. I am also very grateful to hear all four of the boys together again, one last time. I enjoy many of the elements of the track and I am grateful that Paul and Ringo decided to revisit the song. I think overall the mix and production are top-notch. The sleeve...well let's just say that I think it does not begin to do the song justice. I wish they had put as much thought and effort into the sleeve as they did the song or even the video (which despite my feelings for the overall song, I am completely blown away by the video, EXTREMELY emotional video imo). I don't love the song, but I didn't love either "Real Love" or "Free As A Bird" either. I have always thought they were fine and I appreciate that the 3 boys took the time and effort to provide us the punters, with additional music. So to sum it up, I like the song. It will never be a favorite of mine, but I respect and cherish what it is, the capstone to musical careers that have been the soundtrack to my life. I remain excited about the MAL technology and what it portends for other projects, both Beatles related and not. Once again Tone, great content and I look forward to your impressions of the Red and Blue remasters soon!
Thanks very much Richard, glad you are enjoying the ride . What a week its been. Im finding the song gets better with repeated plays , but. its too early to tell whether the song stands the test of time and how it will rank against the core catalogue .What has been achieved here is nothing short of remarkable. Still not liking the sleeve either. Very glad you are enjoying the channel - its been a hectic week
The first time I listened to "Now and Then" I really liked it, but I kept listening to it 3 successive times and the song really grows on you to the point that I loved it. There was a lot of hype and buildup, but it turned out great. A very pretty, poignant song worthy to be part of the Beatles canon.
With 20 years roaming the earth being a young soul born in September 03. The Beatles claimed my heart since my tender memory's of childhood till my heart wrenching early years of adulthood. This moment looms before me like a gift from God itself being my first encounter with the first and last release of Beatles music that i'il ever experience. Each beat of my heart resonates with an emotion that teeters between the indescribable and majestic music that the fab four made, for them they been the reason that I am who and what I am today. I'm thankful that I've been able to experience this and for all the joy, confort, wisdom and so many more emotions and leasons that their music has spread throught this young mexican soul and mind. I'il always treasure this moment, and to John, Paul, George and Ringo even tho you'll never read this. Thank You :)
Emotional, very emotional. A lovely song about friendship, it’s nostalgic in places, haunting and very worthy of final single status. I know there’s been comments regarding the missing verse, but I’m glad they dropped it as I think it was too depressing and made even darker. The way they’ve done it has made it a lot brighter and I’m chuffed to bits with it
As someone on the younger side, it has been incredibly touching to listen to and share this song with the people who have been fans of The Beatles since the 60s. I will be watching Paul live this month in Mexico City with an auntie who grew up with their music, and I am so grateful to be able to share that moment with her.
Hi Tone. I think this song is fantastic. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it is. It's beautiful. And I thought the same as you Tone, about the count in when I first heard it. 1,2,3,4 on the first LP when there were 4 Beatles and 1, 2 when there are now only 2 still living. I am sure that must have passed through Paul's mind as well. Including the idea that they started their Beatles recording career with a count in and are now ending it with one as well. What a great day it is. The sun is shining here in Dunedin, New Zealand, and I have this beautiful song spinning around and around in my head. Enjoy everyone!
Hey Robert glad you love the song so much and have had a great day and so glad someone else spotted the count in thing too - I thought that thought only existed in my head lol
Now And Then was haunting, but I expected slightly more. I still like it. They cleaned up Lennons vocals magnificently. I never liked the 1962 Single version of Love Me Do as it’s slightly slower but the 2023 mixing is fantastic. It’s like it was recorded this year.
I’m not disappointed and after many listens it is very good. I was just expecting a little more harmonizing and louder guitar. Overall it’s amazing how they transformed the demo into this.
Wow all I can say is this masterpiece is moving stunning and magical those are the only three words that I can describe this song. After I watched the documentary I immediately went to the song the audio version that is on UA-cam and this is a really big head for me it’s fantastic.
Hey Tony, yeah on the first play it really got me emotionally. This is such a beautiful song. God bless each person that helped put this together. I wasn't too sure either how this was going to sound but I tell you what they knocked it out of the ballpark. Brilliant. Have a great weekend Tony
Favorite moments for Me: George's funky electric rhythm guitar fills at 1:40, Ringo is KILLIN' IT, everything you could possibly want from Ringo, Classic Ringo Fills & accents galore and a solid as a rock back beat, also, the sound of the drums and the deep rich sound of the piano, Paul's little piano fill gems ala 'Day In The Life', and Paul's blending with John's voice, stunning, you even have Ringo singin' in the choruses!!! There's a lot of information for everyone to take in, but after awhile, when it sinks in, one of the GREAT Beatles' Classics...
I’m very happy with it. It’s been a great past couple of days and more to look forward to. Hopefully I’ll secure a physical copy tomorrow for even better listening.
Loving it too, what they have achieved here is nothing short of remarkable. What a week it's been. Apologies for the delay in getting back, as you can will know yourself , its been a hectic week and I haven't had a chance to watch your stuff yet but I will
@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel I knew I was going to like it. But not this much. It’s been such a great week and so happy for everyone. All of us getting to share such a moment. And for the Beatles having such a successful moment so late in their careers. I’m hoping they have another #1 on their hands.
the melody of this has such melancholy about it, sitting here looking at some pictures of my late mum and dad and my sister who would have been 74 this December, my sister who bought home Can't Buy Me Love when it was first released as a single. To think these guys are in their 80's and this is the final opportunity to share a song with their two former band mates and school friends, John and George. Having listed a good few times now and looking at my old photographs, it finally did bring a tear to my eye, from the band who ended the best decade (not withstanding her majesty) with "and in the end the love you take is equal to the love your make". Yes it is a greatt song!
Lovely post Mark and thanks for sharing your story and experience. Many have said this song has hit home in the same way. What a week its been for us all
Great job putting your early responses, observations & thoughts so thoughtfully & with such appreciation & joy. I’m happy to be able to experience such a touching event of a release w/ others who appreciate it this much.
On first hearing, I was hoping for just a little more, as I suppose many others were, having waited for so long but I listened a few more times and I totally got it. I missed those omitted parts of John's original song on that first hearing but then realised I was listening to a 'new' song. After all, wasn't that what The Beatles often did? They'd bounce ideas off each other, take bits out and change others, until they reached the final version. It's a brilliant piece of work, made with passion, emotion and skill. We have a lot to thank Peter Jackson's team for in enabling this opportunity. and to Paul, Ringo, George and John, for this wonderful, final addition to The Beatles catalogue. Incidentally, I realised earlier that Love Me Do was released sixteen days before my eighth birthday. Twelve Days after my 69th birthday, along comes Now and Then. What a present!
This wonderful song really is a time for celebration Tone & as a fan for going on 50 years it really was emotional hearing John's vocal sound so great you honestly would think he sang this last week & all the Fab Four excel on this & the strings & stunning slide guitar really makes this the best song I've honestly heard in years!! Also a huge shout out to the 2023 Remix of Love Me Do which sounds awesome in true Stereo after 61 whole years of Mono mixes!! Great video again my friend.
Tone, I cried like a baby. After all these years to have a real bona-fide Beatles song of this magnitude is amazing! John's voice sounds like it was recorded yesterday. And the musical production is outstanding. Paul says he was lucky to have those 3 men in his life, we were the lucky ones to be blessed with a cultural phenomena that would last forever
Who would have thought that in 2023 we would be listening to a new Beatles track, amazing that they were able to finish John's song, Peter Jackson very important to us fans the last few years.
Love "Now And Then"! Listened to it followed by "Real Love" and "Free As A Bird." It's my newest play list on Spotify. It's like having a new mini Beatles album
haven't had time to read through all the comments, so apologies if this has already been stated...the "ahh's" in the solo section appear to be taken from Because, and the "ooh's" sound like the Here There and Everywhere harms...but the "LOVE" production STYLE OF EXTRACTING, ADDING, THEN TUNING & RHYTHMICALLY MATCHING IT ALL UP MAKES IT HARD TO BE SURE. tHAT AND THE FACT i'M ONLY ABOUT 20-25 LISTENS IN, lol! s0rRy ABOUT MY INADVERTANT CAPITA;ISM, I am not a capitalist, as my bank statements make clear! Jai Guru Deva Om! They once asked, "Can You Dig It?"...Yeah, yeah, yeah!!!!
I love the new track….definitely the Beatles. Felt a lot bit sad after first hearing it….in an emotional way though not in a negative way. It’s a lovely piece. So grateful to be able to hear a new Beatle song with my son listening with me. Looking forward to the red and blue albums next week, Thanks so much for your up to minute updates Tone! Take care!
I listened to this song when it was released this morning (Canada). I listened to it on my headphones and I could not believe my ears. I had a smile on my face the entire time, For weeks, if not months, I was eagerly awaiting this release. I was hoping that it would sound great....like The Beatles. Well, looking back, I had nothing to worry about, I love it! I have heard it 7 or 8 times and my opinion has not changed. I did notice that it has a bit of a "melancholy" feel to it, which is okay. I bought the song from Apple Music and I ordered the blue vinyl. Man, I have been pumped up all day, you know what? I think I'll watch "A Hard Day's Night" right now...in glorious Blu Ray. (I can only imagine what the promo video will look like tomorrow. Take care.
Late to the party as usual, but I loved Now and Then. Stunning is an appropriate description, but also emotive. How many of us dreamed of hearing more Beatles music, have such a connection to their music that it is part of their soul. It actually made me emotional as I was introduced the Beatles by my Dad who used to play his original albums to me when I was a kid.
Hi Tone , well what can I say , it’s a beautiful production & it’s absolutely stunning , it’s a Beautiful song , very moving . I played it over & over again , I heard it from 2.pm , then I heard it after I left work , until I went to bed . Love me do Is interesting , the harmonica really stands out , and the song sounds like it was recorded in 2023 & not in 1962 . I wish they had put grow old along with me on the single , but they had there reasons . But I do like what they have achieved on both songs . Congratulations to them .
Totally agree with everything you say here John, remarkable achievement . the song gets better with repeated plays and it will interesting over time how this stacks up against old songs. great comment , sorry for the delay in getting back - its been hectic
Loved hearing your take on the song Tone, thanks for sharing. I agree it is stunning. I am happy that, right to the last, the Beatles have maintained their strike rate of not repeating themselves, as this song to me sounds like no other. It is beautiful and poignant - John’s voice sounds amazing and it’s so moving to hear him ‘duet’ with the old McCartney. The point I am making is that, from this point onwards, if you are in the mood to hear ‘Now and Then’, no other song will do - its specialness is unique. It’s a huge achievement and I feel very grateful to Paul and Ringo for creating it. Once again, the Beatles have enriched our lives!
Really great comment and I agree with everything you say here. Massive, Massive achievement - especially when you think what the starting point was. A real triumph
Well said Tone. I agree with your comments regarding the new song. Like yourself, I think that the results are much better then we could possibly have hoped. Below are my comments that I posted elsewhere earlier after initially hearing the song. I have got a bit fed up with some of the atmosphere there so it feels a lot more positive here. I think you may understand that statement. Anyway, here are my first thoughts: I do feel privileged to have been around to hear this song emerge fully formed from that old, buzzy cassette. So firstly a massive thank you to all those who have contributed to something of a miracle. And Paul should also be congratulated on never giving up. I'm guessing that song means a lot more to him than we will ever appreciate and that this will seem like unfinished business successfully concluded. When you listen to those, now very clearly rendered, lyrics it is very difficult not to well-up. If ever there was a song that sounds like a message from another place then this is it. If you listen to those words they are so incredibly poignant and powerful. It sounds like John is addressing us all personslly from somewhere else. It could be Paul, Yoko, Sean, us or even himself, but the sentiment behind the words is hugely affecting. Haunting, to an immense degree. The backing with Paul, Ringo, George and the orchestra cocoons the now solitary voice so touchingly that I think is is almost impossible to not be affected emotionally. Yes there will undoubtedly be a group of people treading upon this release for whatever reason but that I think says more about them than the song or the recording. That's fine, and of course their right, but I would like to respectfully differ. This is a special moment and one that should be savoured.
Firstly really great post Dave and yes I would hope there is a more positive vibe here but there will always be people who think they are being clever by disrespecting The Beatles work. That's human nature I guess. I agree with everything you say here and everyone seems to have been affected emotionally by the events of this week. What a week its been and one that we are unlikely to see again, so we should savour it.
I think it's absolutely amazing far better then I ever expected to be honest and a fitting last single.very emotional song i will continue to play on Spotify till my vinyl and cd show up great video tone as always
Wow, what a great and enthusiastic video, Tone! Thanks for that. The song is well done and I like the melody. In the last few days I listend a lot to free as a bird and real love and I clearly enjoy free as a bird more. But now and then is a nice tune and a solid song. And it is great that we got it after so many years. In the 2 leg podcast you predicted it to be 4:04 minutes; actually it is 4:07. That was very close!. But more important is, what would be possible with this technology. Imagine, the do the Hollywood bowl again or the star club tapes. Now I am listening again. Ach so, ja. Love me do is nice in stereo and the sound is more clear as on the older versions. I think the new red and blue (and I am glad, they did not changed the official names) will contain great remixes. BR from Munich.!
Sorry for taking so long to get back to you Armin - its been hectic as you can imagine. Glad you liked the video and that you are liking the song, that for me just seems to get better with repeated plays. The possibilities of the tech are mind boggling as for as remixing the music and we have now seen in the video, what they can do with that old footage. Also liking the remix of love Me Do. All the best my friend , have a great weekend
Bearing in mind this would have been the “new” track on Anthology 3, it has a very similar feel to Free As A Bird & Real Love, mainly because of the same source material. It’s good, and I’m very glad that we get to hear it. Still think it’s cost us a lot of money, especially for the Blue ‘23 - when it’s not complete. No doubt all the early albums will get new releases next year with new “stereo remixes”, costing more money!!!! A
Hello Tone, I have it seen, such a beautiful voice from John. I'm in the Beatles fever like Matt, our friend. Thank you for this Video,💯 from Germany, Elli ✌❤
This is the really reason, lyrics from this Song, they all are missing the other ones, like Ringo was saying;" I was a one children, and then I have 3 brothers. " thank you 🌹🕊Lg Elli 🌈
Everything you said is spot on. As someone in my late 50s, I’ve been actually moved by the song I’ve never heard the demo from John before. I thought it was excellent and I’ve heard some complaints that George doesn’t come through enough but I’m quite sure Paul worked with what he could out of respect for George because George felt it was rubbish, so maybe there wasn’t much guitar to work with there. I think Ringo and Paul did an amazing job as well as did everyone else as you noted. It’s a totally fitting final song of the Beatles, and shows again of all bands, they will be the ones remembered 1000 years from now. It brought back so many memories. It was poignant, sad, triumphant - everything. I literally couldn’t stop crying for a good 15 minutes because of the power of the Beatles all these years later.
I may be in a minority here but of the three songs as far as John’s demos go, Now And Then was my favorite of them. On my first listen to the new version I really missed the “I don’t want to lose you” part. On subsequent listens I got used to it. I still miss it but I love the song and a lot of that at this moment is emotional. I’m just happy we have it now but it’s bittersweet. I kind of had the same feeling after finishing Get Back.
I know what you mean Michael, we've waited so long for it and now we have it not so much to look forward to. I think it's difficult to rank the song with FAAB and Rl as we've lived with those for almost 30 years. We will know in a few years whether it stands the test time but early signs are very positive
Just seen the video for Now and Then. Absolutely stunning, poignant, touching and full of fun. Brilliantly edited. Wish they would release the 3 "new" singles on one 12" vinyl
Couldn’t agree more Tone - stunning. From the first listen, Now and Then completely exceeded my expectations. The music is gorgeous, the cleaned up vocal track is amazing and Beatlesque flavours throughout create a real sense of nostalgia. Can’t wait for the video now.
@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel yes indeed. I just received notification that my preorders are on their way, but who knows when the slow boat to Sydney will dock - can you believe I’m still waiting for Rewind Forward to arrive! Thank god for Spotify and UA-cam.
@@jasonardler8373 No news on mine yet but yes I can believe that you're still waiting for Rewind Forward as another viewer mentioned he was still waiting for his from Ringo's store . Hope everything arrives safely soon mate
Great review. Yours is the first review I listened to, and I don't think I need to watch another. Haven't heard the song itself yet but I will and I'm sure I'll be very pleased. Again, great review.
Hi Tone. Reckon this one is a 'slow grower'. Having listened several times throughout the day, the melody is now in my head and the magic is happening. Well impressed with 2023 Love Me Do...sounds nice and clean in every way from the bass to acoustic guitar to harmonica. Nice one.
It really makes me wonder if one day we could get Free as a Bird and Real Love with the new technology to bring John's voice up to the same clarity as this song. Fans might have a better appreciation of those reunion songs. I'm sure if they one day remaster the Anthology albums, we could see the entire CDs in a whole new light. Not just the reunion songs, but also many of the early recordings from their early days.
@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel Yes! One thing the band was iconic for was those Live concerts during "Beatlrmania" era, yet unlike most bands of their era, The Beatles NEVER released a Live album during their time ad a working band. It was only years after which we got "Live at the Hollywood Bowl". Still, even with various improvements in the sound quality, it still sounds like it's all coming through one audio source. The sky is the limit on what releases await us in the future. Even the earliest records with Pete Best on drums could sound as if they were professionally recorded!
Hi, good to hear your comments and i totally agree also i think the teaser/build up to this was handled very well and also the red/blue promo is decent plus have you seen the site with all the new clothing and accessories, all very exciting i think, number one single finally with this song and some great xmas presents
I loved it. I cried... the production is fantastic. It sounds exactly like The Beatles sound. Apparently the song is for Paul. Another treat today Peter Jackson official video for the song. Been alsorts of events in Liverpool. Hmv midnight opening. Jacaranda listening party, beatles story did something. ( terrible weather so I didn't attend ) but the excitement os great I love it Beatles night on bbc2 this Saturday!
Thanks for sharing Really enjoying the reactions and so glad I ordered most of the physical variations (missed the 10"). Look forward to your next video.
The song was really emotional for me and hearing John‘s voice so clearly thanks to the machine learning technology I was blown away right when I listen to it the whole song starting from beginning to end. I think this song is not only relatable but it’s a timeless song especially the line if you should go away I know you’ll never fade I think that’s the line in that song. One of the things that was really emotional for me was not only the string section and the guitar solos played by Paul and then played by George The harmonies lifted from here there and everywhere and because was magical to say the least. that song especially that bridge I almost weld up with tears and I had to hear the guitar solo and strings and harmonies again I listened to it three times because it was very moving for me. I hope this song softens all the naysayers to think that it’s a terrible song and what Giles Martin Peter Jackson and all of the team have done with this song is fantastic.
Hi mate love the song it gets better every time I went to listening party at the beatles museum Roag best is a nice guy Japanese telly was there it a day I never forget paul mccartney is a legend for doing this for us beatle people love the show mate
Really love what they have done with Now and Then.....beautiful production although if I'm being honest i never thought it was a particularly great song and i can see why George wasn't keen to do it. I also think they have been clever by releasing love me do ...although it sounds great i agree with you that it benefits the least from being remixed with MAL....teasing us with what's to come next week with the eatly tracks newly mixed. Overall it's been a momentous week for us Beatle fans .... just waiting on the video dropping this afternoon. Keep up the great content ✌️
What they have achieved is nothing short of remarkable. Looking forward to the red and blue next week but what a week it's been for us . Video on the video now up on the channel . Thanks for your comment
yep listened many times. It's haunting, beautiful and poignant. A fitting epitaph. But I wonder has anyone else realised that Paul cut out some cool parts from John. in the original demo around 1:30 theres the higher almost falsetto lines that serve as the bridge- 'i don't wanna lose you, use you or abuse you' etc-when i first listened i kept waiting for that bit to appear maybe as a coda or something. It's one of my favorite bits in the demo. Anyway i'm happy with the track. I've made a playlist of Free As A bird, Real Love and Now And Then-they go great together. Almost like a final EP.
Loving it too, what they have achieved here is nothing short of remarkable. Im guessing that the bits they cut didnt fit and probably best not to include use you and abuse you in todays climate. Maybe that was the reason
As you are one of the biggest Beatles fans from what i can see from photos etc behind you, i’ll take your review over them negative reviews anyway. I love it! It brings a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye everytime i see the music video! Thanks for reaction.
@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel i’m 50. first song i remember growing up was John Lennon’s Imagine obviously that age i didn’t hear any Beatles or John’s connection with the band.
@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel next was Paul McCartney’s Frog song in 1984. I only started to realise that The Beatles existed from my late teens early 20’s and how influential they were to modern music then.
I'm really delighted with the way that the song turned out. You are right Tone, this sounds like The Beatles, much more so than Real Love and Free As A Bird which were too ELO tinged in my opinion. Well spotted with the count in, I think your theory might be right.
Take out the emotion, the memories and the nostalgia and I think you are left with a really good Beatles song, it is so much more than a nod to the past and what might have been.
A really thoughtful, considered and enjoyable analysis of the song, Tone. I loved your comment about the count-ins: I had thought this myself re the "first" and final Beatles songs both starting with a count-in, but I really think you're on to something regarding the silent "three, four" on Now and Then. A lovely touch. Am looking forward to hearing your opinion on the NaT video (which I found INCREDIBLY moving). (I've watched and enjoyed many of your videos, but always on my TV. I watched this on my PC so have at last been able to hit the subscribe button!)
Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for subscribing - I really appreciate you supporting the channel in that way. What a week its been !
@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel Apologies for delay in replying. Yes, what an amazing week it was! (And I hope that your arm is, as the Beatles would have it, getting better!)
Really good review of an impossibly impressive track. Paul, Ringo, Peter and Giles have played a blinder. - I am sure that John and George would be impressed and happy. This is a great month for me….new Beatles and Dr Who - two of the biggest passions in my life which strangely both started 60 years ago..scary. I cannot wait for new red and blue.😅😅😅😅😅🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊
Thanks very much, im glad you enjoyed the review. Loving it too, what they have achieved here is nothing short of remarkable. What a week its been and more to come next week
Hi Tones..just got back from Sparks concert(amazing) and record just dropped... as you say it was never going to be a Beatles record..how could it be..it is a great song.. John's vocals are haunting and beautiful..have to listen a few more times as will get more out of it with each listen..great video as always😊
Oh Sparks are down in Oz now to Heath. Kimono my house was the first album I ever bought by anyone. hope it was a great show. Oh I consider this to be very much a beatles record and it definitely improves with repeated plays
I’m not a huge Beatles guy, more of a stones fan . I always admired the Beatles greatly but just never got into them in a huge way . But this song is beautiful and a huge cause for celebration 🙌
Thanks for this comment Brendan. It's always great to hear a positive review from somebody who isn't as invested as us Beatleheads - we tend to get carried away and your comment adds some balance . Glad you liked the song
TOTALLY AGREE..ITS HAUNTINGLY BITTERSWEET,&BEAUTIFUL...FELT LIKE JOHN WAS BACK WITH US...GOD BLESS&KEEP JOHN,PAUL,GEORGE&RINGO...THE FAB. FOUR♥️🙂♥️🙂♥️🙂♥️🙂✌️BEATLES 4-EVER...THEYRE SO GEAR!
It’s absolutely beautifully amazing! I have yet to hear anyone complaining about the AI use, which is a surprise. This is an already certified classic that has every right to be considered one. If this truly is the final Beatles single, talk about going out on top!
Thanks for your comments on the new song. I have only heard it a couple of times so far, but I liked the song very much. You have noticed a lot of details in the song that I didn't catch, so I will look for those over my next listens. I like your comment about the intro counting 1, 2, ... I think you might be right about that, I can easily imagine Paul would think like that.
You're welcome Lars. Im glad others are agreeing with that theory because I was starting to think that it only existed in my head. Glad you are liking the song
It's a beautiful production, Beatlesque and heartfelt. The fact that Paul never gave up on the poorly recorded original is a testament to his dedication to his former bandmates, especially to John.
Great comment . Spot on.
Theres a fan version on YT thats much better, imo. More Beatley, more melodic, more creative.
@@spaceengineer1452 which one,,,Ive heard more upbeat ones.....
@@knockedoutloaded279 It’s called the Beatles- now and then ( has a pic of Russian themed Abbey Road) If the vocal was the new mal version, it would be amazing.
I can’t stop listening to this track,so beautiful melody!
gets better and better the more you play , like any great pop single should
Wow, isn’t it great to live at this time. Hearing the last Beatles song takes me back to when I heard my first Beatles song in 1964. They were so amazing, changed music forever. We love you, John, Paul, George and Ringo! Love this song, heartfelt. Incredible. 👏 🎵
Always great to hear from a first gen Beatles fan Kathy. Yes how lucky are we to be alive at the same time as The Beatles
Totally agree, when you think of the starting point, what has been achieved here is remarkable. great comment my friend
Bless you Andy. great comment. Im glad you love the song and it means so much to you. I feel the same . thanks for a great comment my friend
Ditto yeah yeah yeah
I'm a musician and I loved hearing the Beatles Now And Then Beatley and I found it beautiful and moving,I actually cried listening to it,God bless the Beatles. Bob
Bless you Bob. Pop music has so much power over our emotions - it's one of the things it does best. Glad you love the song
I was transported to another world for some minutes. The chord change after "now and then" gave me chills. I was blown away. That’s a proper Beatles song. Amazing. We're all alive and we heard it on the day of its historical release. The Beatles will live on.
We are very lucky to be here when this happened. Glad you love the song too. Thanks for a great comment Marcel
Tears streamed down the cheeks.
love forever,
Lindy Lu from Oz (Australia)
Thanks Lindy Lou , glad you are loving the song and what a week its been for us .
Agree about the bass on Love me Do
Delighted absolutely delighted. The greatest group are once more in the lime light ! Fab !
So gla you love it Peter
I've noticed the complementary thing with the lyrics on both tracks of the single. Love Me Do... "I'll always be true.... please love me do". Now and Then.... "I know it's true...... I will love you".
Overall Now and Then has turned out better than I expected. I do miss the "I don't want to lose you" section. Interesting the comments back in interviews years ago they mentioned about lack of lyrics...but actually now there are less lyrics than the demo?
I believe the I don't want to lose your section is still there, just as the guitar solo. Same melody
You're welcome my friend. Pop music has so much power over our emotions - it's one of the things it does best. Glad you love the song
Not sure about which piano but it's definitely Paul and sounds great. Great you love the song
Absolutely stunning says it all Tone ! What a wonderful day this has been. So happy that Paul did not let this beautiful song get swept under the rug and forgotten. Tomorrow should be a good one as well. Take care Tone, thanks for all your time making such enjoyable videos.
You're welcome Sharon. Love the song, a remarkable achievement . glad you love it too. Roll on tomorrow
A very pretty, poignant song worthy to be part of the Beatles canon.
yep I agree Dennis . Definitely a grower - its getting better all the time
With 20 years roaming the earth being a young soul born in September 03.
Brilliant put Emilio. So happy that you have experienced your first Beatles release day and that you love the song so much
Emotional, very emotional. A lovely song about friendship, it’s nostalgic in places, haunting and very worthy of final single status.
I know there’s been comments regarding the missing verse, but I’m glad they dropped it as I think it was too depressing and made even darker. The way they’ve done it has made it a lot brighter and I’m chuffed to bits with it
I agree Nick, Im glad that part was dropped as well. The song just gets better with each play
This is a fantastic new song and i would agree that it does pull at the heart strings well done to all involved .
Loving it too, what they have achieved here is nothing short of remarkable.
As someone on the younger side, it has been incredibly touching to listen to and share this song with the people who have been fans of The Beatles since the 60s. I will be watching Paul live this month in Mexico City with an auntie who grew up with their music, and I am so grateful to be able to share that moment with her.
How fantastic that you are seeing Paul with your auntie. Hope you see a fantastic show my friend
Shame you're disappointed but I agree about Love me Do - its sparkling for the first time
I’m not disappointed and after many listens it is very good.
They absolutely did. Glad you love it too. Have a great weekend
Great comment Lee. time will tell how this one stacks up against the other songs - I think its too early to tell just yet, but I truly love it
I’m very happy with it.
Thanks very much, Im glad you enjoyed the review
Loving it too Alan , what they have achieved here is nothing short of remarkable. Always great to hear from a first generation fan . Great comment
Thanks very much Stephen , glad you enjoyed the review but more so that you are heaping so much praise on the song . Great comment
What beautiful song. I listened more than 10 times. How good is be a beatlefan.
Thanks God for moments like that.
Let's see the video tomorrow 😊
Yes roll on tomorrow Marcelo - its been a great week. Glad you love the song too
Tone, I cried like a baby.
Loving it too Charlie , what they have achieved here is nothing short of remarkable. Its been on hell of week - very emotional
What a ride. Never expected that this turned out very nice.....great song. Love every second of it. Kind regards from The Netherlands.
yes its exceeded expectations for me too. Glad you love it, regards back from London
Who would have thought that in 2023 we would be listening to a new Beatles track, amazing that they were able to finish John's song, Peter Jackson very important to us fans the last few years.
Yes he has been a revelation
Love "Now And Then"! Listened to it followed by "Real Love" and "Free As A Bird." It's my newest play list on Spotify. It's like having a new mini Beatles album
Lovely stuff Michael
haven't had time to read through all the comments, so apologies if this has already been stated...the "ahh's" in the solo section appear to be taken from Because, and the "ooh's" sound like the Here There and Everywhere harms...but the "LOVE" production STYLE OF EXTRACTING, ADDING, THEN TUNING & RHYTHMICALLY MATCHING IT ALL UP MAKES IT HARD TO BE SURE. tHAT AND THE FACT i'M ONLY ABOUT 20-25 LISTENS IN, lol! s0rRy ABOUT MY INADVERTANT CAPITA;ISM, I am not a capitalist, as my bank statements make clear! Jai Guru Deva Om! They once asked, "Can You Dig It?"...Yeah, yeah, yeah!!!!
😂
I love the new track….definitely the Beatles. Felt a lot bit sad after first hearing it….in an emotional way though not in a negative way. It’s a lovely piece. So grateful to be able to hear a new Beatle song with my son listening with me. Looking forward to the red and blue albums next week, Thanks so much for your up to minute updates Tone! Take care!
You're welcome Bill. Glad you like the song - its very power and there are not many that haven't been affected emotionally by it
I listened to this song when it was released this morning (Canada). Take care.
Glad you loved it too and are having a great day. Enjoy AHDN, he's a clean old man 🙂
Late to the party as usual, but I loved Now and Then. Stunning is an appropriate description, but also emotive. How many of us dreamed of hearing more Beatles music, have such a connection to their music that it is part of their soul. It actually made me emotional as I was introduced the Beatles by my Dad who used to play his original albums to me when I was a kid.
Nice story Jo . We're all late for one party or another
Hi Tone , well what can I say , it’s a beautiful production & it’s absolutely stunning , it’s a Beautiful song , very moving .
Brilliant!!! Just Brilliant Brilliant Brilliant!!!!!!!!
and another brilliant from, me for good luck!
Anyway, here are my first thoughts:
I do feel privileged to have been around to hear this song emerge fully formed from that old, buzzy cassette.
I listened to it 5 times on apple download. Still waiting for the single record to be delivered. brilliant.
im still waiting too James if thats any consolation
I think it's absolutely amazing far better then I ever expected to be honest and a fitting last single.very emotional song i will continue to play on Spotify till my vinyl and cd show up great video tone as always
Loving it too David, what they have achieved here is nothing short of remarkable.Still waiting for my swag to arrive if thats any compensation
It sounds beautiful! I definitely love it!
it does, glad you love it Mark
Bearing in mind this would have been the “new” track on Anthology 3, it has a very similar feel to Free As A Bird & Real Love, mainly because of the same source material. It’s good, and I’m very glad that we get to hear it. Still think it’s cost us a lot of money, especially for the Blue ‘23 - when it’s not complete. No doubt all the early albums will get new releases next year with new “stereo remixes”, costing more money!!!! A
We definitely wont be getting all the old albums next year Allen, but hopefully we will get one
Hello Tone, I have it seen, such a beautiful voice from John. I'm in the Beatles fever like Matt, our friend. Thank you for this Video,💯 from Germany, Elli ✌❤
You're welcome Ellen. best wishes to you my friend
This is the really reason, lyrics from this Song, they all are missing the other ones, like Ringo was saying;" I was a one children, and then I have 3 brothers. " thank you 🌹🕊Lg Elli 🌈
Yes they are. Nice comment Ellen
Thank you, glad you liked the review. It's been an emotional week for us all - the is the power of The Beatles. Thank you for a great comment
Astonishing video. Video up now talking about that
Couldn’t agree more Tone - stunning. From the first listen, Now and Then completely exceeded my expectations. The music is gorgeous, the cleaned up vocal track is amazing and Beatlesque flavours throughout create a real sense of nostalgia. Can’t wait for the video now.
Thanks very much Jason, the song just gets better and better with repeated plays . Glad you like it. Roll on tomorrow
Thanks very much Paul - high praise indeed which I greatly appreciate.
Think I was more nervous than excited before hearing it finished, but they've certainly pulled it off, beautiful song
I know what you mean Craig. You want so much for it to be good... but they pulled it off
Beautiful song that no doubt will be considered one of the Beatles greatest love songs!
Glad you love Tome - high praise indeed
Hi Tone. Reckon this one is a 'slow grower'. Having listened several times throughout the day, the melody is now in my head and the magic is happening. Well impressed with 2023 Love Me Do...sounds nice and clean in every way from the bass to acoustic guitar to harmonica. Nice one.
Definitely a grower Jim, Im up to about 25 plays and love it even more. Agree about Love Me Do too
Lovin it now, Tone. The promo video is sensational.
@@jimconlin5546 glad to hear it Jim
It really makes me wonder if one day we could get Free as a Bird and Real Love with the new technology to bring John's voice up to the same clarity as this song. Fans might have a better appreciation of those reunion songs. I'm sure if they one day remaster the Anthology albums, we could see the entire CDs in a whole new light. Not just the reunion songs, but also many of the early recordings from their early days.
I agree this tech could do wonders for the other two songs and like you say some of those early recordings as well.
Let's hope so ray. What a week it's been
I loved it. I cried... the production is fantastic. It sounds exactly like The Beatles sound. Apparently the song is for Paul. Another treat today Peter Jackson official video for the song. Been alsorts of events in Liverpool. Hmv midnight opening. Jacaranda listening party, beatles story did something. ( terrible weather so I didn't attend ) but the excitement os great I love it
Beatles night on bbc2 this Saturday!
Loving it too Marcus, what they have achieved here is nothing short of remarkable. Great that Liverpool has embraced it in so many ways
Excellent review - thank you. I love song.
Thanks very much Mark. Glad you love the song
It’s really lovely. I swear the birds were whistling it this morning. Do miss the ‘i don’t wanna loose you ‘
bit’ though
haha . The birds are beatles fans - everyone knows that 🙂
I hate how they removed I don’t wanna lose you
oh well, I guess they thought it didnt fit
just love it so much already. poignant and perfect
Loving it too, what they have achieved here is nothing short of remarkable.
Thanks for sharing
Really enjoying the reactions and so glad I ordered most of the physical variations (missed the 10").
Look forward to your next video.
Thanks very much glad you enjoyed the video. I didnt get the 10" either - nothing physical has arrived yet for me
Love it….it gets better with every listen.
I agree. Glad you love it
Thank you for your review hard work and all that you put into your channel
The song is stunning and momentous
Thanks very much , you're welcome and Im glad you enjoy the channel. Loving it too, what they have achieved here is nothing short of remarkable.
I agree with everything you say here Jesse. Im glad you love the song too. What a week we've had !
Hi mate love the song it gets better every time I went to listening party at the beatles museum Roag best is a nice guy Japanese telly was there it a day I never forget paul mccartney is a legend for doing this for us beatle people love the show mate
Thanks very much, glad you liked the video. Was at the museum earlier in the year. Agree with you a legend and loving the song even more today
@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel you could have a point. And what about the video. Brilliant. Haha I watched it 6 or 7 times I think upon release 😀
@@NeatBeatZone The video is brilliant. Video on that is up on the channel now
As you are one of the biggest Beatles fans from what i can see from photos etc behind you, i’ll take your review over them negative reviews anyway. I love it! It brings a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye everytime i see the music video! Thanks for reaction.
You're welcome and thanks for your comment - glad you love the song
@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel i’m 50. first song i remember growing up was John Lennon’s Imagine obviously that age i didn’t hear any Beatles or John’s connection with the band.
@@softshallow7435 I heard live and Let Die before I heard any beatles. I had no idea the bloke in Wings had been in The Beatles
@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel next was Paul McCartney’s Frog song in 1984. I only started to realise that The Beatles existed from my late teens early 20’s and how influential they were to modern music then.
@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel Oh yeah also George Harrison’s Got My Mind Set On You. That was a big hit in the 80’s!
A lovely song! very emotional! a treasure!
Glad you like it Thomas
I bought 'Love me do' in '62 and now their Last? single, it's been a great ride
Wow what a ride it's been. Always great to hear from a first gen fan
I'm really delighted with the way that the song turned out. You are right Tone, this sounds like The Beatles, much more so than Real Love and Free As A Bird which were too ELO tinged in my opinion. Well spotted with the count in, I think your theory might be right.
Loving it too, what they have achieved here is nothing short of remarkable.
Well said. I must admit I didn’t expect much so I am very pleased. You made some great points that I didn’t think of such as the count in.
Thanks very much Anthony, Glad you liked the review. It has exceeded my expectations and is growing in stature with repeated plays
Take out the emotion, the memories and the nostalgia and I think you are left with a really good Beatles song, it is so much more than a nod to the past and what might have been.
Yes I agree Peter, although its pretty difficult to take out the emotion 🙂

Fantastic review Tone! Technically the achievement is incredible. Mike
Thanks very much mike, glad you liked it. When you think about the demo starting point, what has been achieved here is nothing short of remarkable
I think ive listened to it about 20 times 😂
it improves with repeated plays
Really good review of an impossibly impressive track. Paul, Ringo, Peter and Giles have played a blinder. - I am sure that John and George would be impressed and happy.
This is a great month for me….new Beatles and Dr Who - two of the biggest passions in my life which strangely both started 60 years ago..scary. I cannot wait for new red and blue.😅😅😅😅😅🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊
Thanks very much, im glad you enjoyed the review. Loving it too, what they have achieved here is nothing short of remarkable. What a week its been and more to come next week
The song is beautiful in somewhat of a melancholic way. My singles are in the mail. Ready for them to arrive. Great review.
Thanks very much David glad you liked the review and the song
Hi Tones..just got back from Sparks concert(amazing) and record just dropped... as you say it was never going to be a Beatles record..how could it be..it is a great song.. John's vocals are haunting and beautiful..have to listen a few more times as will get more out of it with each listen..great video as always😊
Oh Sparks are down in Oz now to Heath. Kimono my house was the first album I ever bought by anyone. hope it was a great show. Oh I consider this to be very much a beatles record and it definitely improves with repeated plays
I agree with you about the song and the count in. I think Paul knows what he’s doing!
He really does Dan
I'm sure Sir George is very proud of his Son and his Mates...
Im sure he is too
I’m not a huge Beatles guy, more of a stones fan .
Well said Tony, I agree with your every word. I love it.

It’s absolutely beautifully amazing! I have yet to hear anyone complaining about the AI use, which is a surprise. This is an already certified classic that has every right to be considered one. If this truly is the final Beatles single, talk about going out on top!
Loving it too George, what they have achieved here is nothing short of remarkable.
