- In this video I am taking a look at the Keychron K8 mechanical keyboard.
This is my first time using a mechanical keyboard for a number of years so see what I think about it as I unbox and setup the keyboard.

Welcome to the whacky world of mechanical keyboards. It's down the rabbit hole from here on out for you now lol. I have a few mech boards, including the Keychron K2 with brown switches which is my daily driver and which I've had for 2 years. I've found the K2 to be a very reliable and comfortable keyboard to type on, especially for long coding sessions which are often 8+ hours a day. Enjoy.
I'm already contemplating some different key caps.
BTW about palm rests... According to the 'experts' they aren't meant to be used while actually typing but are merely to be used to rest your palms on while you're not typing . I took that advice to heart and learned how to type while hovering my hands above the keyboard.
Thanks. So far I don't think I'd need a palm rest. I tend to hold my hands quite high when typing. It's definitely a different experience than the Apple Magic Keyboard I was using.
I’ve built a ton of custom keyboards, so if you’re ever looking for advice reach out!
👍
I have never seen a keyboard with lights. That could be rather helpful for me when the light outside dims. Of course the selection of random lights would be distracting to me as I would stare at the keyboard and forget what I was doing, lol.
I've left the lights on randomly as it looks quite nice. It is possible to set them to be on constantly.
Now the colder weather is here I keep the blinds closed and the lights are definitely a great help when typing.
Very interesting video! If you ever change your mind as to this keyboard, in good or in bad, it would be good to have another video with an update!
Thanks. I'm planning an update in about 3 months to cover how I'm going with it. Not sure but this may be on one of my UA-cam Lives
