Hey Jeff, the way you conquered your speech and basically got a job that was probably a million miles ahead of your comfort zone is for me, as impressive as having clinched a supercross and motocross title. You're a great example of dedication and perseverence, and still a cool dude with some personality, wich is getting rare nowadays in our sport. Awesome show Don, thanks man !
I'm 51 yrs old. 90's were my Prime Time !!! So glad that was my time. I remember Emig at Gothams Club in Riverside, riding with him & Ryno off of Edawanda in Ontario California!!! Love Emig,,,,,, what a LEGEND OF OUR SOORT, YOU ROCK BRO. !! #11
As a young man Rick Johnson was my Hero I saved every penny I had and bought a 1989 CR250 all the Fox Gear Bell helmet you name it. When Rick got hurt I almost cried. I went off to college after that had to sell my bike and really left motocross for several yrs until 1995. I immediately was a fan of Emig could not stand McGrath due to I always liked the underdog. Johnson was on Yamaha when I latched on to him. My next new bike was a 97 KX250 then a 98 and 99 all due to Emig riding for them. At the last Seattle Supercross I went wearing a Shift Emig Jersey and holding a "Go Emig" sign I had made sitting right on the wall at the end of the triple jump. After the heat race Emig rode over to me and handed me his Arnette goggles. I have them to this day with still the mud on them from the old Kingdome. Now this is where I feel terrible. He rode so bad that day I flipped over the sign and wrote McGrath on the back. I remember reading an interview yrs later and him saying that was the worst race of his life. I have always felt guilty and sad to this day for what I did that night. My son was born in 1998, some of his first words out of his mouth was Jeff Egg, he couldn't say Emig. Emig is and always be the last Moto Star in my book for me. We are the same age and I have quit watching all supercross events due to him no longer being a commentator. Also I have never owned another Kawi since they let him go. Great interview Don and if you ever read this Jeff, I am truly sorry for what I did that one night in Seattle.
meditech That’s a great story but we are late 40’s now and you can chill with the goggle-eyed fandom of our youth. These are regular dudes with great talent but they’re not gods. Enjoy the sport we’ve got a long way to go!
I wish the motocross of nations would change the current format to 125 (2 stroke), 250 and 450 Fours. We need 3 distinct classes again. I remember as junior racer watching Emig, Everts, Joel Smets on his 4 stroke racing at the Des Nations. It was the highlight of the year for a fan.
This is a great interview. Lots of cool stuff talked about. Crusty VHSs were all the rage in Australia. So sort after and played so much they wore out. Unfortunately the NTSC to PAL conversation wasn’t the best. I am 49... me too... I try to get better at sports and new things I learn, but also this is who I am.
In 1997 in Dallas the night Emig clinched the supercross title. Jeff took off his muddy leathers inside the Kawasaki trailer in celebration and threw into the crowd. I was the one that jumped high enough and snagged them
I absolutely could not stand Jeff Emig in the 90s. He was a thorn in my mans ass lol. Then he started announcing the AMA supercross races and I loved him. Now I miss him that he's gone. :(
One random time start of 2019 or end of 2018 I'm at DFW airport Dallas going into bathroom and Emig walks by. I recognize him immediately and wanted to say what's up at that split second but thought he'd think strange of me. He looked so smooth strolling through the busy airport.
Great show! Got to meet Emig at Red Bud in 96' I believe he smoked everyone on a YZ 125. He was super nice and signed my shirt, probably didn't hurt that I was with a gorgeous redhead 😉
I was at that race at Troy, Ohio in 1997! I concur, SUPER HOT! Fro killed them that day, really impressive. Also, tip of the cap to supercross specialist Damon Huffman for putting the beat down on some guy called Ricky Carmichael. Factory Kawi showed out that day. Would love to see Emig back in the booth - just don't like RC commentating.
I had two 97 shift jerseys signed by jeff when he come to Melbourne Australia he said man they were so hot to race in back in the day not like the Jerseys today lol
I remember some MX gear in Australia in the late 1980’s was fire proof. That stuff was hot to wear... summer in QLD... you sweated bucks before you even sat on the bike.
The first time I ever seen his brother Brian race I thought it was him he had the same bike same gear and same number I grew up racing in Oklahoma and Missouri his brother Brian was always around top 3 most of the time.i raced in the intermediate class with Tommy Hahn I was a top 10 rider and Tommy would run lap times better then Cooper and Reynard he was on a whole nother level wil. Was on 65$ maybe on 85$ and he wasn't a top 5 rider but I'm glad he got himself a championship.thats been long time ago.canard was a really stocky kid on a kx 60 and 80 but he was fearless and quick hell Bogle and Nichols were rivals from hell.colt Nichols Dad and grampa had one of the fastest sweeping track of all times hickory ridge raceway loved that track.
I still have 1st year shift gear i had it cut off after breaking both legs and my my saved it and the tec 8s in white that were brand new and cut off also
NBCSN chose not to sign him sucks because he was a great broadcaster. Jeff even said though he has been wanting to spend more time with his wife & kids & focus more on his partnership's with Shift, ODI Grips and his Ambassador role for Rockstar Energy Husqvarna.
Fresno smooth best most iconic moto movie ever oatsand bran baby what I yell when I see Emig or Jeremy Albriech that mechanic dont get recognition he deserves probably miss spelled his name even lol
I am disappointed I cant get that original black shift jersey. Doesn't have to be so heavy but would like the original look. I have no other reason to buy any shift gear other than that.
Emig talking trash and disrespecting perhaps one of the best interviewers Moto has ever known shows exactly what kind of character and man he truly is...not much of one, still.
I was at Kenworthy's race in Troy Ohio in 97. I had a umbrella that I used on the top stand (for a little breeze) and I sweat so much my ball sacks made my pants crotch wet. LOL Emig won so easy it was almost boring.
What a legend! Never should’ve copped the crap he did over a bong in his car or whatever the fuck happened ✌🏻from Australia 🇦🇺. Put the fro wig on next time....oh he probably couldn’t anymore. Might upset some BLM crowd or some shit. I wish it was ‘97.

emig and a few friends use to come to my track in the early 90s when racing Unadilla. Washington mills 30-40 min from unadilla

Emig still kicks ass!

Stevens heel clicker on the step down quad was just unreel back then
What? I still don't know why he left his MC gig? Anybody?
Why did emig not announce super cross this year
Noah225 got replaced by RC sadly.
a different channel picked up the series soo RC does it now....
NBC picked up Sx and Mx and hired Ricky Carmichael.
Emig was so damn good at announcing! I loved his insight into what was happening. I love RC too, but maybe they could have had all three do it.
Why is he not announcing on supercross anymore?
NBCSN chose not to sign him sucks because he was a great broadcaster. Jeff even said though he has been wanting to spend more time with his wife & kids & focus more on his partnership's with Shift, ODI Grips and his Ambassador role for Rockstar Energy Husqvarna.
