His humor was perfect here. I hate how dumb they made him as the seasons went on. By the end of the series, I constantly questioned how tf did Joey make it past the 5th grade 🙄 the writers ruined his character so bad

Yes. Joey was initially supposed to be a ladies man who was sort of an asshole but then Matt Leblanc (the actor who plays Joey) told the creators that it wouldn’t make sense that the others were friends with Joey if he was an asshole, so they sort of made his character more innocent, sweet and dumb. To be honest, I always liked season 1 Joey because he was just aloof rather than dumb. The show really made him dumb later on and some didn’t always make sense. For example in season 1, Ross tells everyone that he had a dog named Chi Chi and his parents sent the dog off to live in a farm, and even Joey understood that the dog had died but Ross’s parents had just lied to him. However, in season 10, it was revealed that Chandler told Joey that he sent the chick and the duck to live in a farm where they aren’t allowed to visit and Joey believes that. Then some time in one of the earlier seasons Joey tells everyone that he broke up with this girl because she had a huge Adam’s apple. But later on in the series he calls it a “Joey’s Apple” believing that it’s named after each individual person. I understand these are just done for minor laughs but still, you can’t deny that they really dumbed him down.
@@Anakin737 They had to make some of the characters more aloof as they got older. Especially Joey who was no longer a promising, young actor with Hollywood looks. He couldn't stay that cool. And Ross couldn't stay the smart young catch with all the potential after all those divorces. These guys had to be a little more flawed. But yeah the dumbing down did become silly. Remember the one where he spoke French? Awful.
