Another god we know whose death may have a resulted in large scale destruction is Guizhong, Guili Plains was once a mountain range, but it got flattened into the plains it is now during a final battle involving Guizhong and Zhongli. We don't know who they were fighting or were they fighting each other, but that's where they last met. Gui from Guizhong= Return, Li from Zhongli = Leave, Guili = Return and Leave, their final place they returned to before leaving each other forever.

I'm not so sure about her death being the event that caused the mountain range to become plains.

Also, in the end they are still gods, entities with a lot of power. Counterpoint: andrius's death showcases that there's situations where, when a god dies willingly at the very least, the death can be harmless or even benefit the environment. Similarly guoba also released all of his energy in a way that benefitted the land. If makoto died in peace that she fulfilled her duty the fallout might not have even happened

I think the thing about Andrius's death is it wasn't him being slain, which I think was a difference I was considering because when I was writing this I was thinking "damn, mondstadt is still kicking, how come?" and I think i realized this point after making the script that Makoto was slain in battle, Andrius gave his life willingly, Guoba is still alive and is just happy to be here .

@@ChillwithAster maybe. The violence behind the death could play a big factor that's true. Tho, I'm still not sure about makoto considering she had a pretty clear understanding on how the cataclysm would end would end for her and might have taken some precautions as to not nuke the place. Also, I'd argue guoba is as good as dead in his current form considering every aspect of what made him an individual has been reduced to nearly nothing. His powers are gone, his mind is mostly gone, with only a few key individuals being recognizable and some of his old habits like liking food, which is why I'd argue current guoba dying might not lead to a much destruction. And yes I know harvia was a weak god too but I don't think it's the same situation.
But tbh, who knows at this point, everything is so open-ended everything could be the case at this point

As you said, gods burst into elemental power and surround area where they died, and we know what happened to multiple gods after death:
Orobashi - tatarigami and storm on yashior island
Thunder bird - thunderstorm on serai island
Havria - surround her full domain with salt
Decarabian - whole old mondstat into raging winds

Everything suggest that gods don't actually truly die without leaving something behind. The thunder manifestation for example is what's left from the thunderbird, the sands from Havria imbued inside everyone nearby her, Orobashi left behind residual residue that leaves miasmic effects, eternal rain, and crystal marrow, etc. It seems that gods always leave some remnant when they die. Likely Kusanali is just the remnant of the greater lord as there's no stated drastic effects from her death and Kusanali's birth is celebrated on the same day as the greater lord's death.

    • @Skylancer727
      @Skylancer727 2 роки тому +8

@Harry Shade Havria wasn't angry, she was technically safe in her home town as they were locked in. It was likely more despair she felt when she was killed. Still we can see the sword wielder died in the act of swinging the sword so she likely didn't even feel that. We have no reference of a God dying without leaving anything outside the gods we don't have land of like the Scarlet King (I think the corruption of the greater lord and the leylines likely was from the Scarlet King), the goddess of flowers, and the greater lord themself (though we do know all true padisarah died off with her and the waters had apparently turned black as did the rain so her remnants may have been confused with the general war).
Plus we know Makato didn't have regrets. In fact, it seems she fought with intent to die and left behind the sacred Sakura tree and her consciousness in the sword (where the seed came from). That is still a remnant of a god that is long dead.

Minor correction: from the sound of Zhongli's dialogue, no he can currently still make Mora, the gnosis might have helped him generate more but it's him being "dead" that's the heart of Teyvat's future currency crisis. He chooses not to make Mora for himself personally because he's trying to live as a mortal, but that's his own moral code. It ties nicely to your point about Venti and Zhongli are still the active archon of their nations, even with the fiction of Zhongli's death in Liyue. If tomorrow Zhongli decided he needed to make Mora, he could.

    My headcannon/theory:
Upon the death/acceptance of mortality of a god a world tree(and other plants) will sprout
Makoto was a gentle soul, she left behind the sacred sakura through a willing sacrifice
Rukhadevata and Zhongli were wise, their understanding of life and mortality was their "death" as gods and their trees were born.
B version of Rukhadevata is that her "tree" is Kusanali since their deep connection to the dendro element and Irminsul
Venessa was reborn as a god and left befind a massive oak tree.
    Other special plantlife:
Massive glowing flowers in sumeru(legacy of the flower archon?)
big sentient mushroom tree in the chasm
    the trees on tsurumi island
The violent and unwilling deaths of gods(and people) bring forth agressive plantlife, the regisvines and overabundance of leyline energy are manifestation of this, the so called "filth" that has to be purged or it will feed upon the living like a parasite.
The most vile corruption is in sumeru, the withering which manifests intself as scarlet flowers, the legacy of the scarlet king whose death was anything but peacefull, grief towards the goddess of flowers turned into madness
what has celestia to do with this?
nature as we know it is proably against the heavenly principles, since there the water and food tastes foul according to venti. gods were born without the intervention of celestia

When Decarabian died, his powers went immediately to the wind spirit Venti and he became the new anemo archon. I've always wondered why it was Venti who was chosen since, as a wind spirit, he was probably less powerful than any human in the city. I guess humans can't become archons? Or maybe the wind spirit was actually more powerful than i thought.

    • @caparashon

Except Decarabian wasn't an archon. He ruled Old Mondstadt, yes, but he was just the God of Storms. The title of Anemo Archon didn't exist until the resolution of the archon war for the remaining entity left, and same with the other archon titles. In reality there was another god-like being in Mondstadt who had the power to ascend as an archon and who had been in war with Decarabian before the humans killed him, and that was Andrius the Boreas Wolf. But Andrius doesn't like humanity much so he declined and went to the woods to live with the wolves. The wind sprite just took the chance to ask for the archon position since there was no one else left, and Celestia seemed fine by it. The powers Barbatos got aren't Decarabian's, but likely from Celestia (or maybe an extension of Istaroth's but that's a theory)

It was mentioned in lore that Venti's first bit of godly power came from the Gunnhildr clan's worship, when he answered their prayers after they tried to leave Decarabian's Mondstadt. Eventually his following grew and so did his power, so he was probably already quite powerful when they overthrew Decarabian. And when he formally received the Anemo gnosis, his power presumably increased further.
There's no evidence that Venti inherited any of Decarabian's power; there's no lore concerning what happened to Decarabian's power after he died. It's curious that despite being a powerful god and dying a violent death being murdered by his lover Amos, he didn't cause any sort of harm to Mondstadt. This is in contrast to Orobashi and Havria, both of whom caused a lot of harm upon death, despite being benevolent.
Maybe Venti had sealed Decarabian's remnant power in the ruins of old Mondstadt, in the unaccessible basement of Decarabian's tower. I hope we get lore on that someday.

It's highly possible that's why the Tsaritsa was so offended/outraged by what Celestia did. She may have found out that's what Celestia intended.
They might have been sent to Khaenri'ah under the pretense to talk to the humans, possibly Zhongli, Venti, Makoto and Ruka were the only ones who knew that was likely not going to happen- since they were stated to be the only 4 left who won the Archon war- the other Archons at that time were stated to not be the original winners of the Archon war.
    I think Zhongli stated that.
Though, he seemed to think Ei and Makoto were the same Archon before and after, just acting differently now- whether he never knew about Ei being Makoto's shadow double or if he knew of her existence at all and thought things were still the same and that Ei was still Makoto's shadow is unknown.
He seemed unaware that Ruka wasn't the only Archon killed at that time.
It was stated or implied by him, Ping and Cloud Retainer (and possibly Venti) that the gods ocassionally met in Cloud Retainer's garden at the table.
It was also implied that the Archon's lost contact after the Cataclysm- that he & Venti had known and been friendly with the replacement Archons for Fontain, Natlan and Snezhnaya before the Cataclysm.
So, I'm also curious about the originals who won the Archon war in those places.
How the seat changed hand- it's clear something went down in Fontain to cause the Oceanids(sp?) to refuse to abide by the change, causing them to leave Fontain all together.
Also, its suggested in Liyue (by Ningguang) that the humans assumed (until he visits Ningguang, Keqing and the others in their dreams) that Celestia chooses new Archons themselves- insinuating that the humans don't think the adeptai can/will/would fight for supremacy amongst themselves, to be chosen (incidentally- it felt like that's what Mountain Shaper & Moon Carver might have been considering. Then when their boss popped into their dreams and said: "No, really: I'm still here, boys" that they took vacations to cool themselves off- making Cloud Retainer salty that they left her out).
But back to Celestia - I think it's highly possible that they got the Archons (this doesn't mean all, obviously Venti, Zhongli, Makoto and likely Ruka knew something bad was likely going to happen) there under false pretenses with the specific intention on Celestia's part to be to use the Archons (by killing them) like living weapons, knowing full well that killing one or more of them might get rid of the people in that nation.

For Zhongli giving up his gnosis simply meant giving up his active role in governing Liyue. For Venti, it pretty much made no difference, since he had always left Mondstadt to its own devices anyway.

"What happens when Gods Die?" I have a theory of my own about this, relating to another one but that's besides the point. True gods in the Hoyoverse don't die, they physically can't. You can reduce their forms so they can't do anything, but they could potentially rebound given the right circumstances.
What qualifies as a true god? Well that's the part I'm still working on, and have to do some cross referencing to nail it down, but I do believe that at least the Sustainer is a true god. Kiana always does become one. On the other hand I think beings like Havaria and some of the adepti are more so powerful beings that people worship, rather than a god.
I know I could probably explain this in more depth, but its late at night for me, and it would take a long time to explain in the first place.

  • @cyrosgold7

Don't forget about Marchosius aka Guoba. THough he didn't die but rather dispersed his power while alive. But either way it seems that even when gods die they leave something of themselves behind. Such as the sacred Sakura. Also this is twice that the god of time Istaroth has helped 2 of the now "Dead" gods that died in the cataclysm. Which would take a lot of power as well and that god is now missing. Which goes along with the theories that she suffered the same fate as Guoba and might be either Paimon or Changsheng.
Either way though it seems that a god's "death" and the dispersal of their power are synonymous. One results in the other it's just a matter of what form they take after.

I honestly wonder what death means in the world of Teyvat as presented to us: We know that bodys can freely be created. We also know that the leylines work as memory backup, since memories can be stored and recovered. We also know that at least Ei can place her consciousness in objects at will. I think it is likely that with Sumeru we will touch the subject of rebirth. The piece still missing is, how corrosion works. It seems to vary from case to case. Are only living things affected or does it also affect the stored memories? Maybe the Akasha system in the end was meant to save memories from corrosion...

I’m so happy you did this video because I recently wrote on another video about this!!! My theories were:
“After watching the Assassination part again, after playing the Sumeru update I have some speculations…
So they found the new Dendro Archon after the previous had died in the calamity which was 500 years ago. The new Archon is only 500 years old this would mean that the Archon is reborn as a baby as soon as the old Archon passes kind of like Avatar The Last Airbender. So that would make Assassination of a previous Hydro Archon impossible unless the current Hydro Archon is an imposter.
Next, Zhonglis death as an Archon wouldn’t trigger the birth of a new Archon since he technically didn’t die. BUT would ppl still be looking for the new Geo Archon because of his supposed death?
But the there’s the case of Inazuma where Ei and Makoto are twins. Makoto was the original Archon and when she died the power passed to Ei so is it more like a monarchy? And how did they decide which twin was the Archon? Did they have to battle it out? Or did Makotos death trigger the birth of a new Electro Archon but no one knows because they assume Ei would just be the new Archon?”
(I reworded some things but you get the gist!)
My other this is…. How did they know Kusanali was the new Dendro Archon? If it was put into ATLA-esque terms then the way they would know was her being able to pick out former Dendro Archons toys/items.
I still have a lot of questions so hopefully it will all clear up. But I also have another theory!!! I wish there was some way to get ahold of you so I could tell you because It literally came to me in a dream 😴

Have you ever said something about contaminated ley lines? If ley lines are not only the biggest source of power on Teyvat but is also made of memories, then what are the contaminated parts? For example the mud on the chasm, the contamination on the Sakura tree, etc. My hypothesis is that is ley line energy coming from eroded memories. This energy gets unstable with time afecting the host like the archons. Thid memories that would get ussually purified (like on the Sakura tree) and reused to hold new memories and gift power, but if a masive amount of corrupted energy is pumped into the ely lines for example during the dead of a god or some atack that disturves the normal flow (like the nails or the thunder bird attacks) sending corrupted energy everywere on chaotic ways

Ngl, i always thought it would be cool if, like how thor works in the marvel comics, as long as someone believes in them, they can use that hope to regenerate their bodies. The amount of regen depends on the amount of belief they have.
It would be cool as they draw their strength from beliefs, so in that, they become tied to their peoples beliefs.
But, them not being able to return from death does give them a more human feel.

  • @cherryleafy101

I wonder if it matters which part of the god dies. We can see that there's sometimes a separation in which part of the god dies. Andrius gave up his body meaning it "died" but his spirit still exists and is sentient. Makoto's body died in Khaenr'iah but the last of her spirit inhabited Ei's sword and so she didn't fully die at that point in time. Orobashi, Havria, and Guizhong seem to have fully perished in both spirit and body. Rukkhadevata isn't fully confirmed yet, but she might be a case of bodily death with some spirit still living. I don't think we've seen a case of a god whose spirit died but their body is still around like Genshin's version of Godwyn, but I suppose it could happen eventually. So I wonder if the consequences or the severity of the consequences vary based on how the god dies. E.g., is it less severe if only their body dies? Or does a huge energy blast only happen if their body and spirit die suddenly at the same time? Does the energy blast only happen if they die violently like Havria who was murdered? Does a god's willingness to die affect whether there's a huge energy blast or similar; Makoto went into Khaenr'iah knowing, and therefore accepting, that she would probably die, so did that make a difference to the consequences of her death?
On a side note, I think the huge energy blast or other consequences as a result of a god's death is why Genshin can't kill off Venti or Zhongli, at least until close to the end of the story. In conversations about who is death-flagged in Genshin, I've seen them come up with some regularity. But, for game continuity, they can't be killed off for a long time yet, if at all. As Aster pointed out, if Zhongli died in Liyue it would be like a nuke went off and the whole area, possibly the whole country would cease to exist. They can't change the world like that then have you able to play in the region as normal, and wiping a whole region off the amp seems bad for business; you lock yourself out of characters, further story etc. So, if Venti and/or Zhongli do die in the story, they would have to die outside their nation, probably in Khaenr'iah or Celestia as part of the final push, or Genshin would have to circumvent them nuking a whole country through some very contrived plot armor. So I think they're unlikely to get killed off anytime soon, if at all.

    Hi Aster, I've some questions.
If you don't need a Gnosis to bear the Archon title and rule a nation, and according to Venti, it is an external magical thingy which directly resonates with Celestia, what purpose does a Gnosis exactly serve besides having those quirks like minting Mora, running the Akasha system etc?
Why does it exist if it's so trivial a matter for Celestia to care about in terms of Archon-hood?

Why is there no new deity of this respective element born to replace them like kusanali did? Does the birth cycle only apply to the archons? Or does celestia has a way to prevent new deity of threse element.... or any other deity outside of the seven from being born? Assuming that the archon war purpose is indeed to reduce the population of gods. If not.... Then surely now we would have heard of at least the existence of a living gods outside of the seven roaming somewhere in the genshin universe.
Second, supposed Morax did in Liyua..... And a new geo archon were born, do you think that the qixing gonna do? Do you think that their going to treat the new archon like the sages did to Nahida? Or Will they hand over the Governing of Liyue to the new archon? Thank you.

But why cant Ei do the same the other way around? Makoto did it because she "remembered" the bond. So why was Makoto's death permanent? Was Ei ever truly brought back? Mond: when rebellion of Venti-Andrius faction won against Decarabian, they decided who to be Archon. Andrius chose to dissipate his powers. Basically depowered. Leaving Venti the only god left
Liyue: Zhongli destroyed the other gods with the help of Guizhong being the brains. Guoba depowered. Osial presumably killed Guizhong (flood in Guili). Havria betrayed by her people. Zhongli sealed Osial (basically depowered)

For Baal and Ei, I think that because Ei was already there to replace Baal, Celestia didn’t have to create a new Archon, and thats why Baal is able to interact with Ei when we got the Raiden boss.
Because Greater Lord Rukkhadevata died without a living successor, Celestia made Lesser Lord Kusanali with her dust, and thats why we’ve only seen her in memories and Nahida looks like Rukkhadevata so much she could basically be her but younger.

The Gnosis of an Archon to me seems to be a way of serving those the deity governs ; Morax's allows for the creation of Mora, which so far it has been proven the humans can live without, and it certainly doesn't seem to be important to the Archon who holds it. It seems more of a 'quality of life' thing that they can adjust to live without - such as the Akasha terminal simply being an extension of knowledge, rather than something required to live with. I suspect this is also why Barbatos doesn't really care about his Gnosis being taken, and why Morax and Beelzebul gave theirs away, simply because it isn't *needed* for them to serve as an Archon.

What is a God but simply a being with superior powers? Are we as humans not Gods to numerous species on Earth? Perhaps not to the point of worship, but we are significantly more powerful than most species. The Adepti may as well be considered Gods themselves. Though at this point I would probably consider them quasi-gods, and the Archons demigods.
The regional Gods as we know them are simply beings with more power that chose to influence the lesser beings. Yet we already know there are beings above what we call the Gods in Teyvat. And we know there are other forces at work beyond just Celestia and the "Gods" linked to it.
To know what happens when a true God dies, or if they even could die, we need to look beyond the Archons, though some hints could be in their lore. Enkanomiya is the major source of knowledge in that so far, though perhaps more will be explained in Sumeru later, as they would like have some memories in the Irminsul tree.

Andrius! You forgot the first dead god we encountered. He chose to let his physical form die and return to the land. Please fix this huge oversight.

Someone once said "People die when they are killed". I don't know if this applies to gods.
