Wow buddy you just save me from a lot of trouble and loss of money . Very true !! There’s a lot of videos showing you stuff but not concretely everything you need to know . Thanks 🙏🏼
Yes! Finally a vid that comes right out and tells you when to measure rod length. Been so long I had forgot and while some of the other vids are very informative they just brush over that step without clarity. Measure uncaged new to uncaged old rod length. If you are reusing your clevis as I always seem to then actual rod length is all you have to match up. Just make sure it is threaded on so that the eye distance from flat face is the same on new as old. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong. Also I was taught to release brakes with wheels chocked before inserting caging tool but your video shows that is not necessary. Also good to know because some times it is not an option like when air is down and vehicle needs towed or whatever. Thanks so much for a clear and to the point video!
sprdaxlw9l I love your comment brother, I was hoping my video would help many people because I came to realize exactly what you just mentioned in your comment nobody shows you exactly how and when to do certain things and that's why I recorded it I love to record things and show people how to save money and do the things themselves I am an owner operator and I know how we get ripped off.
I’m a chassis mechanic and can say this does help, just remember if you do not uncage the Chamber after install it will not work, the cage feature is used for safety (these chambers can explode and cause serious injury or death) and as a way to make a trailer roll if the chamber, S Cams, valves or hoses fail.
I wished my co worker could have looked at this before replacing the chamber. Could have saved alot of time and could have saved part of the push rod instead of cutting off almost half of it.
@@keithhatch56 that's like lots of these people who think if they buy Snap On they're great mechanics. I know people who had few tools and repaired trucks and equipment better than the ones who had shops packed with all these Mac and Snap On tools.Someone telling me to loose crescent wrench is just funny to me .
Isn't releasing slack adjuster pressure same effect as caging. To losten the clevis n pin for removal?. Also is caging necessary when adding new chamber ?
I have asked about that for years and always have been told the if the bolt slips it can shoot through your chest and kill you. Now I find out in four minutes how to do it without killing my self.
Very well explained. What if your brake stroke length on your old chamber is off to begin with? Would that mean you would not be able to match the strokes length from your old brake chamber to your new one? I would suppose you would check that length first to make sure it is spec. When would you reccomend changing your brake chambers before they start giving you issues?
Good question but it's easy to take care of it you are gonna adjust the brakes after you install the brake chamber And if that was the case you would have noticed it.
You can do it on the trailer.Use caging bolt to release brakes and move it with tractor.Don't drive like that on the road because trailer is not gonna have brakes and only the tractor (semi truck) is gonna have brakes.
I have an issue with an air leak on my brake system on my 2016 T880. When I press the yellow parking brake, I hear air bleeding though the yellow knob. Never leaks when yellow brake is pulled out and engaged. Could this be brake chamber?
Get a air regulator with with therth to the chamber and adapt a valve to parking on chamber to release the big spring inside put air then close the valve so you can out the rod behind dont let your finger catch behind washer when release the air
@@intruderIG There are dual pin brake adjusters that are very sensitive to the angle at which they must be set to relative to the pushrod at the zero stroke condition. Not even a experienced tech would get that right every time and should be using the templates. Now, with the adjuster you are working with there requires more than just matching to the old pushrod length to the old one. There are specific procedures to do the job right. Look up the instructions on the adjuster manufactures web sites.

Why did you put the clevis pin in that way??? I hate when I find a trailer after someone has done this! If it's put in the other way it's much easier to hammer it out. You can't get a hammer between the slack adjuster and the wheel!
Hi you put the new clevis pin in the wrong way, you should put the clevis pin from the wheel side then fit the split pin. Then the next time you need to change the chamber you will be able to hit the clevis pin. The way you fitted it, the wheel is in the way to hit the pin.

Yes.
Use Weisgrip pliers cut of air supply to each brake chamber. One at a time and if it stops that's the one if not than it is the valve in the dash
